Journal Time!

Weight: 237.8

Yay, I'm down a little more and will hopefully hit 235.4 by Monday. I'm going to workout hard this weekend to make that goal!

We had a healthy dinner last night and I drank more and more water. No gym today which is nice since I just had 4 days in a row. I head out-of-town today, so wish me luck! I probably won't be able to post much or at all while I am out-of-town. Have a nice week everyone!

Great Job DW....

Good luck on the road.... it can be tough when you are out and about! I am pulling for ya!

Quick check-in from out-of-town:

Things are going really well. I am eating per my diet and found a gym that I can use while in town - whoohoo. Today I have a legs exercise and might do a little extra cardio while I have the time.

I thought I hated Fage yogurt, but I tried some today with honey and it was SOO good. I will definitely be buying some more :)

Had sushi with brown rice - it was okay...

Looking foward to some outdoor cardio with the wife on Saturday, should be really nice here in NC (sunny and 68 degrees!)

I hope everyone is having a nice week!

So far, Friday has been a good food day. Around 6PM my wife and I are going out for our 'cheat' meal. I'm super excited :) It's been 12 days since we started with absolutely 0 deviations. Hopefully, this will satisfy all of those cravings and keep us sane for another week! I haven't weighed since Wednesday so it will be exciting to see what the scale says on Monday morning. I really feel WONDERFUL!

Going for an hour jog tomorrow for my cardio day, then chest / arms on Sunday when I get back home.

I hope everyone has a HEALTHY and FIT weekend!

Awesome attitude! I love it that its a couples thing but I also think your 3 daughters are also going to learn a lot from this! I think healthy parents with a healthy lifestyle give their kids an amazing spring board to their own life long patterns. I truly believe this because my fiance has parents that make health and nutrition a priority and he has amazing food habits! I really want to pass his way of eating to my future kids so that's a major reason I want to start my healthy lifestyle.

Good job!

Thanks for stopping by Tally29! Yes, my kids are learning some very important lessons about health and fitness... such as, "NO, we can't have french fries withe every meal". I'm glad we made this change while they are still young so that it can become a part of their lives!

Weigh-in #2

Weight: 235.4 (-9.2)

My goal was to lose 3 more pounds this week and I am HAPPY to report that I lost exactly 3 pounds bringing my total to -9.2!

Our out-of-town trip went very well. We were constantly sourrounded by people eating bad things, but we never cheated and only ate our healthy meals and snacks. My wife and I went jogging for an hour on Saturday and I went to the gym as soon as I got back on Sunday.

We did have our planned 'cheat' meal on Friday night. I have to say that it was AMAZING :) I ate so much I thought my stomach was going to explode. Then, the next day I got up and ate extra healthy and exercised with a new vigor! I felt refreshed and rejuvinated - it was great. AND, the scale still went down.

I went to the gym this morning for my shoulder workout and everything seems to be going well. I feel stronger, which is a nice change. I'm looking forward to the week and hoping to lose another 3 pounds by next Monday.

WOW! Awesome loss!

Your cheat meal sounds fantastic!! Why don't I have those?

I have to admit that I was physically nervous about the cheat meal. I knew what I was going to get and knew it was a ton of calories. I was scared that I would 100% ruin my diet / mindset / everything. However, after eating I felt kinda gross and was ready for a new day, some light food, and some exercise.

I like knowing that I only have to be strong for 6-10 days before I get to satisfy one of my cravings. It keeps me going!

I also believe that it HELPS my diet / weightloss. It's like a curve ball to my metabolism and keeps my body guessing instead of hitting a plateau.

Eventually, you stop having so many cravings and the cheat meals aren't as important to you (you don't count down the days, hours, minutes, seconds :)) - but it's nice to have!

Sometime you just want a burger... and that doesn't mean you have to be fat. As long as it is planned / accounted for and infrequent - it's okay.

Weight: 234.6

I had a nice day yesterday as far as food and exercise. My wife made a healthy dinner and it was okay - I didn't LOVE it so I didn't eat it all... I'm sure my calories ended up being pretty low for the day.

I'm headed to the gym after work today for intervals and back exercises. This is day four of my 4-day stretch (sat, sun, mon, tues) at the gym. My muscles are feeling pretty good! The scale is still going down! I think all of the weight training is really helping.

My travel schedule is filling up pretty quick. I'm off to Columbus, OH next week for 2 nights, then Cleveland, OH for two nights the next week. Then Nebraska... TN... Kentucky...

I've decided that my travel time will be my SUPER healthy time. Even if it means I can't eat out (we can spend roughly $125 / day on food!!!). You see, when I'm at home I have a family to take care of and spend time with so I can only spend 1 hour / day at the gym. However, when I travel I have more time to dedicate to the gym and can double up on workouts! If I'm going to be away, I might as well make the most of my time!

Just signed up for a 5K on June 11, 2011 as part of our work competition to lose weight. We are all doing it together. I ran this race two years ago in 29 minutes - let's see if I can get back to that time this year!!! It is a very hilly course, so we'll see how it goes.

Congrats on signing up for a 5K. It is nice to have another runner in the forum.

Thanks! That's how I lost weight on the last go 'round. Was up to 5 miles / day and loved it! I would like to run more this time around but I'm trying to focus on strength training... even though I got thin last time, I still looked flabby-ish.

I'm excited about my 5K though, I really hope I can hit the 30 minute mark :)

Yeah, that is how I lost it this time as well. I am now into the running AND the weight training. The running helped me with the flabby-ishness-LOL and the weight training is starting to help firm things up. I don't know about my stomach though. It was too big for too long for it to snap back I think. You will hit the 30 minute 5K mark before you know it!

Hi DW! It's been awhile. Sorry to read you have gained your weight back but you are already proving you can lose it even faster. Have you figured out what has gone wrong in the past and what you will do to make sure it doesn't happen this time?

Derrick

Well done. Super that you have a plan for all of your upcoming travel. Your journal is very inspiring.

Thank you! I really hope the travel plan works - sometimes my choices are made for me by delayed flights, workload, etc... but I feel really motivated, so I CAN do this :)

Hey Derrick - yes, it's been a LONG time. You asked the million dollar question!! "Why did I gain the weight back (twice!)?"

I think there are a lot of factors that caused me to gain the weight, and I'm trying to deal with them all this time around:

1. I treated diet / exercise like a tool to fix my obesity. Once my obesity was gone, I no longer needed those tools - I went back to my old ways... This time around I know that diet and exercise are part of my LIFE forever and always.

2. Support system - I didn't have a steady support system at home. This time around my wife is my number one ally and we are doing this together. I know she will talk some sense into me if I ever falter / gain weight back.

3. I never had a long term plan or goal. My sights were only set on "when I get to my weight-loss goal..." "when I fit into these clothes..." I need a 1 year goal, a 5 year goal! Goals don't end once you lose the weight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The scale was the same today, so that's pretty good (yay for no gaining :)) We had turkey burgers and sweet potato fries for dinner last night - pretty good! I bought a new cookbook to get some new healthy ideas, so I'm pretty excited about that!

Went to they gym yesterday and did my interval training - which is so freaking hard. Here it is spelled out:

Treadmill
5 minute warm-up at 3.0mph

Repeat 3X (Surge):
30 seconds at 8.0mph
30 seconds at 3.0mph

Two minutes at 3.0mph

Repeat 3X (Surge):
30 seconds at 8.0mph
30 seconds at 3.0mph

Two minutes at 3.0mph

Repeat 3X (Surge):
30 seconds at 8.0mph
30 seconds at 3.0mph

Two minutes at 3.0mph

After that I did some back exercises and went home! My wife and I decided to make Thursdays our official cheat day (dinner only). That way it's not too close to the weigh-in and we have time to get the sodium out of our body and work off the calories. Tomorrow we are going to chilis :)

Happy losing everyone,
Wise

(after a morning workout)

WHOOHOO :)

I had a pretty good day yesterday but fell asleep really early (like 8:30pm on the couch). It drives my wife crazy when I can't stay up because the only alone time we get is from 8:30 - 10 when the kids are in bed. However, the workouts and decreased calories make me so tired at the end of the day!

I woke up late this morning (go figure) but still made it to the gym for 'Leg day'. This is the one workout day I actually FEEL strong. I can do really heavy lifts and see my leg muscles. Upper body is a different story.

Tonight is our cheat meal so I'm taking it pretty easy on food today. Hopefully the extra calories will be used up by my leg workout and build me some muscle :) Not sure if that is scientifically possible, but I like to visualize it that way. I'm trying to drink TONS of water today to combat the extra soduim I am bound to consume this evening.

Tomorrow I have another rest day and then I plan to hit the gym hard this weekend! Happy losing everyone!
