Jay Can Do It! - Weight Loss Diary

Regarding your last post, I would say it is definitely normal to be scared of driving! Especially if you don't have a lot of time on the road yet. It can be a scary thing for sure! I was terrified when i first started at 18. We are supposed to get a license at 16 years old but I was always so scared, and didn't really have anyone that wanted to teach me so I waited until I was 18. Driving is something that you just get used to in time. The more experience you get, the less you think about messing up. . Hope that makes you a feel little better. Also, I really like how you put your list of goals together! Would you mind if I used it? & How do I use it ? LOL. Anyway, just wanted to check up on you, and it looks like you are on your way to success!

Thanks! I'm so scared of driving because I tend to day dream a lot and I'm a huge pushover when it comes to the road. I'd probably let everyone go at a Stop Sign and forget about my turn, lol.

As for the Chart, sure you can use it! You can just copy and paste it and it will still retain the format. If you need to change the goals, just retype it and color it grey. Blue means that you've completed the goal, and don't forget to post the date you accomplished it. I just basically used words and bullet points. Nothing too serious.

Good luck to you! =)

I feel so tired. I'm going to have such a good sleep tonight. xD

I managed to the 5 mile walk, and THEN do zumba immediately after (A total of One Hour and Twenty minute exercise session!). I wanted to do Zumba immediately after since my body is already accessing the fat reserves after an hour or so, and with that Zumba boost I'm just waving those fat stores good bye.

I also decided to record my weekly weight in a different way. Instead of posting a single weight, I'll post a range. So last week my range was 218-213. This week it's looking more like 216-213. This way, even though my lowest weight has not changed, at least my highest weight fluctuation is getting lower and lower, and that is progress.

I hope you all are having the best of luck with your weight loss journey. And if not, a little detour is never bad to avoid traffic. Just make sure that detour leads back to the road.

Can someone tell my why Dieting can be SO CRUEL?! My dad just cooked up a plate of golden chicken nuggets, but they are 50 calories each! I could only have two. ONLY TWO. It is so good...........aaahhh I just want to pig out so bad.

Why....WHY...Why does bad food have to be so tasty. :cuss:

I do the same thing! I also tend to get distracted a lot with other things while i'm driving, which is probably worse. I'm sure you will do just fine! Just try to get some practice. Do you have a permit? Could you ask your parent's to let you drive them if they need to go somewhere?

Thanks! It was a really thought out goal plan. =)) I thought it may be just copy and paste, but wasn't sure if it was like a template or something lol.

(Day 18) Friday, October 14, 2011

I almost lost my diet mindset this morning, but I managed to get a hold of myself.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to exercise earlier in the day. My mom had an interview at a store, and she asked me to tag along for moral support. I left the house at around 10:00AM (the time I usually start exercising), and didn't come home until 2:00PM! I almost pigged out on a meal, but my mom made me eat only one serving of everything. Go mom! Thanks for saving me. xD.

As for my mom's interview, she said it went quite well. From what she said, it seems like the guy really likes her. He even said he'll call her back because she was a promising candidate for the manager position. $10 an hour though is pretty meh, but in this economy any job is better than being unemployed.

Oh, and while I waited for my mom to finish up the interview, I used her iPhone to do some diet research.

According to various articles, exercising before eating breakfast will burn much, much more fat than if you ate a big breakfast. Other people disagree with this, and say that if a person doesn't eat, they are more prone to injury, and they have a higher chance of binging later. Even more others say that you shouldn't start exercising on a completely empty tank - fill it up first with an apple or a banana, and then eat your breakfast.

But the one thing they agreed with: It all depends on the person.

So, starting tomorrow, I'm going to see whether or not I can exercise without any food in my stomach. I'll try not to overexert myself either. Maybe I'll even transition between food and no food, who knows?

For now, I'm thinking of a plan that looks something like this:

Wake Up

Eat a Banana, or an Apple, or something small and 100 calories or less.

Exercise for 30 minutes.

Eat normal Breakfast.

Exercise for 1 hour (and 20 minutes of Zumba depending on my endurance)

Although, the one thing I'm worried about is my body leeching off of my muscles for energy. According to one article, if I go without food long enough (10 hours or more), my body will leech on to the fat, and instead feed off my muscles. I don't want to lose muscle, for sure! So I'll have to approach this new way of exercising carefully.

One more thing: I just realized I haven't answered three days worth of daily questions. I apologize for this! I'll post them up right away.

Have a good day everyone!

Day 16 - When did you first decide to lose weight?

Day 1 of this journal, actually. I've tried to lose weight in the past but because of school and home instability I was never in the right mindset to commit myself. But now that I graduated from school and have the better part of a 5 month limbo before college, I decided that there is no better time to lose weight than now. My life is stable, there is almost no stress in my life, and I really, really want to go to college and greet my friends in a whole new body and confidence.

Day 17 - What is your favourite treat meal?

I love homemade burgers with patties made strictly from fresh meat grounded with my awesome Kitchen Aid. I also like anything with rice. And I love pasta.

Basically: Me = Carbs, Carbs, Carbs = <3. I don't like anything sweet, though, apart from fruits.

Day 18 - What food is your weakness?

Rice. I can get rid of chips and junk food, and I can refrain from eating Fast food and going to Olive Garden, but I cannot for my life avoid eating Rice. White Rice is a staple in my family; we eat it with EVERYTHING, and I have been eating white rice since I could chew solid things. I'm hoping to change to Brown Rice soon, but I find that it's very tough. Although I don't think I'm cooking it right xD.

Day 19 - When is your favourite body part to work on? Why?
Day 20 - What is your favourite form of cardio?
Day 21 - What is your favourite resource for healthy living info?
Day 22 - Quick! What are the 5 things you like best about yourself?
Day 23 - Did the media play a role in your wanting to lose weight?
Day 24 - When did you first notice your hard work paying off?
Day 25- When you reach your goals, what do you plan on doing to maintain your results?
Day 26 - What excites you most about reaching your goals?
Day 27 - How do you stay on track in tempting situations? (e.g. BBQs, Birthday parties, out with friends, etc.)
Day 28 - Have you had any setbacks you’ve had to overcome? How did you do it?
Day 29 - Your definition of beauty.
Day 30 - 10 facts about you! And now, what are your stats?

(Day 19) Saturday, October 15, 2011

Today is my make up day for yesterday's Fast food failure. I was doing so good (1240 calories!) and then after that fast food, BAM, calories jumped all the way to 2,100. What in the hell! I even went Chicken Grill Sandwich instead of the regular Whopper. I'll have to be really, really good today.

So, my plan right now is to workout on an empty tank, and go for at least 40 minutes. I know by doing this I won't tone any muscles or whatever, but I am sure as heck I will burn a bunch of fat. I just finished drinking a glass of water too, so at least there's hydration in my system.

Oh, and yesterday I felt so bad after the fast food because after the meal, I went to church and this lady I haven't seen in a while said to me: "Wow, you lost some weight didn't you?". I have NEVER heard anyone say this to me before. I was SO pleased with myself, and I felt horrible at the same time.

According to my calendar, there is about 5 weeks left until the Thanksgiving family gathering. I want to lose another 10 pounds so I can surprise even more people, especially those bitter aunts that scoff at me about my apparent pudginess. I'll show those ladies!

Have a great day everyone!

Day 19 - When is your favourite body part to work on? Why?

Right now, it has to be my abs and chest. Because I'm big, the two parts on my body that I hate those most is my big belly and rather volumptious chest. Although it's not as pronounced as it was before, I did have a bad case of man boobs! I want to tone both these areas doing pushups and crunches - which are both easy, and painful, and quite effective if done correctly.

Just a quick update for you guys! It's around 1:25PM and I just finished cooking my breakfast. My workout was fantastic. I think without food, I burn tons more calories because my body was on fire! And I didn't feel too dizzy or exhaust. I learned that water is such a great hunger surpressor, so I made sure to drink tons of water during the workout. I'll post a pick of my breakfast soon!

My Breakfast!

After a bad dinner, I decided to treat myself to a healthy breakfast. It was around 400 calories because I didn't have any chicken breasts so I had to use thighs (otherwise it would been closer to 300!). However, it still fresh, and on a very healthy, nutty whole wheat slice, so I can say this breakfast was a complete success!

Snacks!

Half of a Banana. I figured I should munch on something before dinner. 50 Calories doesn't seem bad at all!

Hungry and Thirsty? Canteloupes are the answer!

My Lunch!

It was a simple salad with chunks of half-serving chicken thighs in it. Unfortunately I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. Sorry! I'm making a better version of the salad for dinner so keep your eyes peeled for the next meal!

My Dinner!

=( I forgot to take a picture again. Sorry. It was Salad, Tomatoes, and Chicken Thigh. It was really good :D

(Day 20) Sunday, October 16, 2011

Today is weigh day!

My weight range is: 213-216.

Last Week: 213-219.

So, I didn't exactly lose any weight this week. But that's expected since I had two really crappy diet days, and one day I didn't exercise. I'm just happy that I didn't gain anything.

Yesterday I was so proud of myself because I reached an all time record caloric deficit of: 1265 Calories! And combined with the hour and twenty minutes of exercise I topped the day's burn at 1965 calories. So, so close to 2000 I can almost taste it.

Day 20 - What is your favourite form of cardio?

Right now, the only form of cardio I do is walking and (sort-of) Zumba dancing. But back in the days when I wasn't as big as I am now, I loved to run with music booming in my ears. Especially outside. I find running exhilarating, but nowadays I can barely run for a few minutes without being out of breath!

Hmm...actually come to think of it I haven't tried running for a while now. Maybe I have enough cardio endurance for a good run now? We'll see.

Workout

Worked another hour today. Unfortunately I couldn't finish my Zumba session! For some reason my body was so sluggish this morning, so I guess One Hour will have to do. Also, even though I don't post that I'm doing pushups and crunches, I am still doing them every day. So far I haven't seen much improvement in my performance (apart from crunches, but crunches are so easy). I would really like to do a few normal push ups one day, but I guess doing them on the knees will have to do for now.

Breakfast!

Tomato and Lettuce Salad, Grilled Chicken Thighs, One Scrambled Egg, and White Rice and Spinach Ball. I would eat a slice of bread but we ran out yesterday, so I had to resort to White Rice. Sorry about that D;

Dinner!

I skipped lunch today. It seems like my lunch consisted of little tiny things so I wasn't hungry enough for an actual meal. Below is a picture of what I ate for Dinner:

Basically slices of carrots, lettuce, chopped chicken thighs, and tomatoes.

(Day 21) Monday, October 17, 2011

So yesterday I had an epic fail before I went to sleep. I was having a really good health day. I managed to exercise for an hour and I stayed barely at 1000 calories until 6PM. And then all of a sudden my dad comes home and decides to cook my brothers some Fish and Chips. I'm usually very disciplined when it comes to food, but fish in chips is just...heaven in a basket. I tried to lock myself in my room but the intoxicating fumes of saturated fat seemed to seep from under the door. So I said to myself, "why the hell not? One bite couldn't hurt."

So I went downstairs. Took a bite. Went back upstairs.

Oh my goodness. It was so good.

Later on that night (about 10PM) when everyone was sleeping, I went downstairs to get a drink of water. And lo and behold on the table was a single piece of deep fried, breaded cod. It was just sitting there, being all saturated and golden. The next thing I knew I was chowing down on the fish and licking my fingers.

Yeah..that was such a fail.

And then this morning I wasn't able to exercise because my mom went to another interview and I had to accompany her (it was at 8AM). Good news: She got a part-time job! Bad news: we celebrated by eating at Shari's. I didn't mind though because it was in the morning, and I could always make up for the damage by avoiding meals later in the day. I ate a Mexi-skillet. I ordered it because it looked like the most healthy thing on the menu, but the pictures lied! That dish was just filled with cheese. And it was glossy, like someone took oil and brushed over the dish, nothing like the picture. At least I wiped off the Sour Cream top. It was good though.

So if anyone can, please tell me how much calories is in the Mexi-skillet! Normal Shari skillets say they are 900 calories (holy mother), but I just want to make sure. I can't find info on the Mexi-Skillet ANYWHERE.

Apart from that, I'm going to treat myself to an exercise in the next hour or so. I have to be careful though because I had immense abdominal pain yesterday so I have to keep off the crunches for a while.

I hope you all have a GREAT day!

I MADE A NEW BLOG :DDD

http://jaycandoit.blogspot.com/

Eh, sorry for the big text. I created a whole new blog for myself where I can post all my thoughts about my dieting experience. I'll also post there what has worked for me, so if you're looking for different workout routines or dieting ideas don't be afraid to take a visit.

It's still a bit under construction, so sorry if there's grammar errors and whatnot. I'm just excited because I've never had a blog before and it looks so nice! Premade layouts are always win I guess xD.

AYou're going to keep posting here, right? O.O

You're doing really well. We're allowed to cheat, once in a while, so try not to be so hard on yourself. One or two pieces of deep fried fish, or a night out won't harm you :).

And you're not ugly! You're quite cute, to be honest lol.

Keep it up!

Lol Thank you Loch XD.

Of course! The blog is more for just personal thoughts and things. I would do it here but I feel bad for bumping up my thread.

Hey Jay, I've not had time to start at the start and read through fully - just checked out your initial few posts and then recent progress. Wow. Your head is really sorted about this weight loss business - I'm so impressed! Great progress so far - I love the goal chart. You've inspired me to have a think about what to put on one for me! As for the pic, hon, you are going to be seriously nice looking once the weight falls off :) Keep it up!!

(Day 22) Tuesday, October 18, 2011

I bought an all new Bowflex Watch yesterday, and I couldn't WAIT to try it out. It detects heart rate and calorie burn, so I know this device was the closest I could get to accurate.

I started my workout routine and I noticed that my heart rate was considerably low, so I forced myself to increase the intensity. And boy was it worth it. I was sweating like a pig and heaving like a dog, and I burned over 1000 calories! This was SO worth the $49.99. And I even dropped a pound today! I'm so happy =)

To celebrate, I treated myself to a slice of homemade meat loaf and caesar salad.

I hope you guys have an awesome day!

Day 22 - Quick! What are the 5 things you like best about yourself?

Wait, why quick?! DON'T RUSH ME :cuss:

Okay um. so 5 things.

1. I'm the tallest in my family. But my family is a bunch of munchkins honestly xD When I was in High School I was friggin' short..

2. My skin is clear. USUALLY though. I hate being a teenager.

3. I look good in black. Black hides skin folds and other embarrassing things.

4. My teeth is straight, and apparently I have a good smile. But I don't know what they're talking about honestly.

5.

K so I'm not good at this game. Better luck next time I suppose >_>

Today is my brother's birthday, and I actually remembered this year to wish him a happy birthday. Go me! I think it's the diet.

So I just got news that we're going to Claim Jumper to celebrate my brother's birthday, giving me a grand total of FOUR days the past few days I went out to eat. But this time I pre-planned. Hah!

So I'm going to get a House Salad, and I'm going to FURIOUSLY ignore my other family members and their glossy foods. And then I'm going to get a Frisco Burger and share it with my mom (she's on a diet too). And then I'm going to come home and eat more salad.

Good plan, yes?

Just came back from Claim Jumper. I was biting my nails the whole trip, waiting to get home to calculate the damage I did to my body. But I was surprised! I only ate half the Frisco Burger sandwich, and along with fries and the salad I managed to reach about 1800 for the day, which is not bad. I'll be healthier tomorrow though =)

AHeya Jay :seeya:

I have just sat and read thru all your diary and you are awesome!!! I love the layout and i love your humour and honesty :)

You made me giggle at your description of your push up effort at the start, sounds very familiar.

You said your mom has an iphone, do you get to use it much? if so, there is an amazing app called MyFitnessPal which i use to keep a track of my calories...Also have you heard of Couch 2 5k? I have an app on my phone for that too which is the best thing ever (mine is called 'get running' and it cost £1.49) It got me doing 1 min interval running to start with and now i can run for 30 mins straight, i am now even doing speed interval running with no walking. You can also get Couch 2 5K online aparantly. If someone had said to me 3 months ago that i would be running i would have laughed in their face but now i am addicted to it. I'm also addicted to improving and working harder and faster now too!!!!

Anyway, keep up the great work and i am looking forward to following you on your journey :)

Thank you Kate :D I actually don't have an iPhone, but I'll ask my mom to use her cell. Though I don't like using it in public because her cellphone skin is hot pink. People give you that certain look when they see a guy with a pink phone with a fuzzy white ball dangling from it.

I also almost forgot to answer the question of the day! I'll post it here:

Day 22 - Quick! What are the 5 things you like best about yourself?

Wait, why quick?!

Okay um. so 5 things.

5.

K so I'm not good at this game. Better luck next time I suppose >_>
