It Starts...

Hey MissD thanks for checkin in on me!! That really sucks that you're already loaded with homework. Ahh the joys of school lol. Just don't stress :) You being in school already makes me want to be in school. Less than a week away Woohoo!!!!

I'm actually slightly embarassed about my drunken night. It was only my good friends that were there, but still. I have a nice gash on my face and shoulder to remind me of my foolishness. Oh well, I'm sure it won't be happening again.

I'll definately let you know how the interval training goes. I like how the chart is broken down into weeks and I'll eventually increase the intervals. I'm pretty excited for it actually.

Nice to hear about your biking sessions and workouts. You look really great in those pics you posted!!

Talk to you soon! And good luck on your exam :D

Hey lady!! Eek I didn't know about the gash!! I think we all have had those kinds of moments. Its nothing to be embarrassed about, but I understand the feeling. I am kind of a social retard so I don't really go out much with friends and when I do I am usually the driver because I tend to take on the "mom" position... but I won't lie, I've had plenty of thoes moments that I only remember little bits of and what people have told me. But ya move on...

School is currently overwhelming to say the least. I feel like I am going back and fourth from school to work and back again... its making my head spin. I might have to do something different when its all said and done as far as my hours at work go.

Thanks for the compliments on the pics... I have been feeling really good about myself these past few days. On Monday as I was cursing on my bike to and around campus I got soooo many cat calls... ha ha it made me smile inside and I might have puffed up my chest a bit....

I hope things are your end are going well... Sorry for not getting to your diary as often... things are a little crazy on this end!! If I don't catch you before the weekend have a good one!!!

August 29

All I can say... is TGIF! This week has been a whirlwind of excitement and needless to say I am exhausted. School has me running in circles as does work. It figures that I go alll summer long with zero work on my desk and now as soon as the semester begins my deptarment is jammed... I have barely had time to sit it seems. But its finally Friday and my mirco class has been cancelled... meaning that I will work until 2:30 and then I'm outta here!!!

This week was a test to see how I am going to cope with getting exercise in, plus homework, and my normal wifely chores. And so far I have only been able to handle the homework and chores. I normally get up around 6 to be at work for 7:30 but with my new schedule I am getting up at 5 to be at work for 7... Step gets up at 5 so I am usually awake by then I just don't get out of bed... well this week I got out of bed and was able to get a few 30 min workouts in before getting ready for my day... so this week wasn't a complete loss as far as exercise goes, but I am dying for a run!

I feel like I was able to adjust my eating patterns for my new schedule and I feel like I ate pretty dang good!! And besides being totally exhausted I feel great! I really think uping my cals has made a difference. I haven't weighed and don't plan to until after my birthday and even then I don't really care what the number says because I feel soo great!!

Hopefully tonight I will get a run in, maybe the loop. This weekend is jammed with all kinds of family activities. My brother and his wife just moved back, they got in Wednesday. He was in the navy and was stationed in VA, he has been deployed twice to Iraq and decided that the military was not for him any longer. He and his wife want to start a family and from what I understand having a family and being in the military is rough. So he put in his 5 years and is now back home safe and sound. Step is super excited because now he has someone to play with... LOL they like to compete... men.. eesh! But anyway we are spendiing the weekend at my parents so get in some quality time... it should be fun!

Thats all for now... guess I had better get working on this stack of stuff on my desk!

Glad to hear you survived hell week! And congrats on not letting nutrition and exercise go completely out the window... that's huge!

Enjoy the weekend.

Thanks, I just hope I can keep it up during this semester, but I feel like I have my priorities straight....

You enjoy the weekend too!!

I just want to let everyone know that I made up for not doing as much exercise this week... all today.

Instead of doing a bike ride, Step and I decided to climb the Sandia Mtns!!! We hiked the La Luz trail, which begins at 6300 ft to 10,100 feet (more or less). The trail was a total of 9.5 miles and we gained almost 4000 ft. Took us 6 hours to reach the top and then we decided to take the Tram down because a) it was getting late and b) we were BEAT!!! I have some pics I will share once I weed through them. It was a blast!! But its gaurenteed that both of us will be sore tomorrow!!

Currently I feel great. My body is pretty tired and I am in serious need of a hot shower, but other than that I'm doing pretty darn good!

I'm very envious. Strangely I dreamt of hiking a set of mountains out in China last night. It has left me yearning for another serious hike. Bad!

A few months back a group that I was with got caught in a blizzard on top of Mt. Washington. It got pretty hairy in terms of freezing to death, lol.

But what an adventure.

And hard, hard work. We did, I think, 7 mountains up and down that were 5000 ft plus. Here are a few pics:

Those pics are amazing!! Scarey though! I don't know if I could handel the cold, I'm such a wimp when it comes to extreme weather.

Below are a few pics from our hike... the weather was beautiful, we actually got a little sun burnt and rained on at the very top!

You can see the progression as we get higher and higher... and it just kept getting more and more beautiful!! These pics really don't do it justice!!

D, those are some great pictures. That must have been some hike. I'm envious.

Thanks Trops! I am still amazed that we did it! We had initially planned to just go as far as we could and then turn back, but once you get to a certain point you can't turn back because you get eager to get to the top! It was a huge accomplishment for the both of us!!

September 1

So I thought I would post this evening. Somewhere along the way this week I picked up a cold. First I thought it was just allergies from the hike, but turns out I have a little cold. Nothing too bad at this point, just a stuffy head and a really dry cough. My energy levels have been up and down throughout the day. I drank lots of water today and I think that helped somewhat.

Step and I and the pooch (Boomer) went for a run this morning. Just a quick 2 miles around the neighborhood. I felt pretty good and energized afterward. We went out to my parents house for a BBQ and to help my bro move, but the moving truck didn't show up (big surprise) , so we just hung out and chatted. Step and I kicked around a soccer ball while I was cooking the burgers and dogs trying to keep the ball in the air as long as possible. Overall we had a decent day, I'm pretty wiped out now though.

So last week proved to be pretty crazy as far as my schedule went and trying to get everything done, but that was expected. I have a better feel for how things are and have a plan of action!! We sat down yesterday and made a menu for the week as well as a grocery list of things we need. We also created an exercise plan for the week and chores. Stephen offered to step in and help with the chores since I will be busy studying and what not, usually I play wifey and do it all... which I really don't mind. I'm one of those people who has to be constantly doing something or I get a headache. But he offered to start cooking meals and helping out with typical house stuff, which I am hugely greatful for!

With that!!

Exercise Plan
Tuesday:
AM: Ab work 25-30 mins
PM: Strength (possibly circut, haven't decided yet)
Wednesday:
AM: Yoga
PM: Hill intervals (something new we are going to try, read about doing hill sprints in
runners world and our street offers the perfect place)
Thursday:
AM: Ab work 25-30 mins
PM: Strength (again possibly circuit)
Friday:
Academy Loop (3.32 miles) shooting for 40 mins or less
Saturday:
Something Outdoors!!! Biking, Hiking, Tennis, something!!

Note: The AM things are on my schedule and the PM is for the both of us.

I also plan to get caught up on all my readings for school (I am waiting for my books to get here since I ordered them early last week). The plan is to do all my readings for the week the weekend before and then work on assignments and study during the week. I haven't tried this technique yet, I would just do the readings whenever and same with studying, but I always felt like I was behind...and although I did well, I was stressed to say the least. I'm hoping that this will allow for more time studying the material than reading the text.

And thats all!!! I am also going to set up some kind of personal goal for September and I am thinking it will entail push-ups. I have always wanted to do a "real" push-up with perfect form and I WILL someday. But I have been putting it off, so its about time to make it REAL!! Also, I haven't weighed in almost 2 weeks and I plan to keep it that way. I have been feeling really good about myself and I don't want some number to ruin it!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!! I am off to study!!

D, you are so organized. I don't think I could go back to school since organization and I don't really mix.

Keeping the scale out of it sounds like a good deal for you, too. You'll see the progress that you are making in your running and lifting. I need the scale to keep me on the straight and narrow. Without, I fall into some bad habits.

Wow, great post. People should read this as a lesson around here. I think very few actually sit down and plan out their nutrition and exercise... which for most, makes a world of difference. Especially when schedules get hectic, like yours is now.

And Stephen sounds like a great guy... STEPping up to the plate with the chores.

Best to you with the pushups. There's a couple of ways you can progress, depending on your strength levels. One way is the modified pushup with both knees on the floor. From there progress to only one knee on the floor. From there to a full pushup. That's the aggressive route. The more conservative route entails gradually decreasing the angle between your body and the floor. Start with a high incline, like pushups against the wall. Than maybe from a table. Than from 2-3 feet incline... so on and so forth. Only progress on to the next stage when you feel ready... don't rush it.

Why are you learning toward circuit training?

Yeah I have to be organized or else I would fail in all aspects of my life!! And making a weekly plan has really helped me stay on track.

The scale is evil!! This past month I set a goal to loose 7 lbs by my birthday which is 2 weeks away and as soon as I did that I became obsessed and was weighing ALL the time and it was VERY discouraging. So I'm keeping my mind set on how I look and feel and not that stupid number. And I think I am getting close to where I want to be. Just the other day my mom told me I was getting too skinny... ha ha I just laughed because I didnt think she was serious... but I guess she was!!!

Thanks Steve. Having a plan has really helped me stay on track and I plan it because besides school its TOP priority because I respect myself enough to take care of my health.

Ha I almost wrote Step has stepped up... and I agree completely he is an amazing guy, I'm very lucky to have him.

I haven't yet made a plan of attack for the push-ups but I might go with the decreasing angle or I might try both ways and see which I like better. I can do them on my knees pretty well, but its hard to tell if my form is right or not. I might have Step watch as I do them to make sure that my form is correct.

We designed a circuit workout earlier this year and try to get it in at least once a week. But we are looking to revise it so that its just strength and no cardio mixed in, but its hard to do as I am finding out. I prefer a full body workout just because of my time constraints, and I don't think Step has any preference. We work out at home, we have a pretty big set of free weights and a bench as well as a few bands and med balls. I just need to find time to sit down and research different exercises and design a new workout!! Ha, but finding the time is going to be the hard part!

Well as I'm sure you know, there is an enormous difference between circuit training and strength training. They impact the body much differently and will therefore give you different adaptations.

Adaptations must be matched to goals.

So what are your goals?

Yes, I do know that they are different and that most circuit training is more for endurance.

I honestly don't know what my goals are at this point. I am pre-training for a half marathon so that is one of my goals.. to be able to run long distances. I feel like I am very weak all over and would like to gain strength and eventually build muscle, but I think I need to loose more weight before moving in that direction. In all honesty I just want to look like an athlete or look like I am athletic.... and of course look good naked and feel good about myself....

Well I've seen your pics and if you were my client, I'd have you strength training given your current level of BF.... take that for what it's worth.

Oh how I would love to be your client!! And your intern for that matter!!

Maybe I should work on designing a new workout schedule that has more strength training!

I would. Let your diet and your cardio/other activity take care of the calorie wasting. Let strength training do what it's supposed to do... which is increase strength and more relative to your goals... magnify your body recomposition.

If you're going to stick with weights twice per week, I'd just set up two separate full body workouts. If you're interested and that is what you plan on doing... I could throw some suggestions your way.
