It Starts...

August 18

Today I am working out a plan for the week. I have decided to just work a week at a time rather than trying to plan out the month ahead of time. Plus school starts next week and I am hoping to work out a plan that will work with my school schedule. I feel like I am taking it easy this semester with only 14 credit hours, but I could be wrong.. I will know by the end of next week what my work load will be like.

WO Schedule:
Monday: Academy Loop 3.32 miles (run 90%)
Tuesday: AM abs, PM firm strength training
Wednesday: AM 0.25 intervals (3 miles), PM Salsa
Thursday: AM abs, PM firm Strength Training
Friday: AM Stretch, PM Academy Loop 3.32 miles (run 90%)
Satruday: (?) Bike Ride/Hike/tennis (something outdoors!!)
Sunday: Stretch/Rest

Diet Plan

I was considering counting calories, but I think for the rest of the month I am going to continue WW, droping down to 20 points per day (the amount anyone below 150lbs should be getting). I am going to try to eat more fruits and veggies and cut back on sat. fats and see how I do. I will have to modify my eating pattern when school starts, but I think for the most part I will be at work during the lunch hour so I won't have to worry about not eating.

So thats all. I am having a weird clothing day... my clothes are really baggy it seems, which is weird because I wore these jeans and this tank last week and didn't seem to have this problem. I was thinking back to when I got these jeans, I got them for xmas last year and they fit nicely... and now they sag a bit... which is good but bad too... jeans are soooo expensive!!!

Today's Eats:

Breakfast:
1 cup vanilla yougurt: 2
1/2 kahsi go lean crunch: 2
1 cup hot tea: 0
1 tbsp honey: 1
Total: 5 Points

Snack:
1 banana: 2
Total: 2 Points

Lunch is just around the corner and we are having grilled chicken with veggies for dinner!

What is "firm" strength training.

You are doing 4 strength WO's and 2 of them are ab specific? Say it aint so?

That's funny. I'm eating GoLean for lunch. Not the crunch, though.

Ha yeah its good stuff, but worth tons of points! I should have paid closer attention to the label when I bought it and picked one that was lower in calories! The crunch is 200 cals per serving, which is 4 points!!!

Regular Kashi GoLean is 140 cal for 1 cup, 1g of fat, 10g of fiber, and 13g of protein. How many points is that?

Oh the FIRM workouts are a DVD, its an hour of full body strength training that has 5-8 min step aerobic intervals. They have really worked for me I just haven't been consistant lately in doing them. But hopefully I can get back on the horse this week.

And its 2 strength WOs and then abs... I don't really consider abs strength... they are just.... abs... and I LOVE working them!

2 Points! Which is typical for all cerals... for whatever reason the one I picked up has more calories. I'll have to check the box again when I get home!

That's cool. What I do sometimes is have two bowls because that will really fill me up. 8 points is a lot, even if it's all you eat for half the day. 4 is so much better.

Yeah seeing how I only get 20 points a day... but this morning I mixed half a serving in with my yogurt and it was just the right amount and filled me up!

ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so out of curiosity I put in today's eats into fitday to see how many calories I am getting with my 20 points a day. And with today's eats I barely broke 1000 cals!! OMG this is stressing me out!! :banghead: Is this why I am soooo slow to loose weight???? Is my body starving??? I calced my BMR and added in "moderate" exercise I think I multiplied by 40% which rounds out to 1600 cals per day.... I am currently in shock and don't know what to do or think...

Any help would be great! :piggy:

20pts a day is low. Is that the maximum point allowance for your weight? Are you eating your exercise points? What about the extra 30 or so points alloted each week. Are you factoring all of these in? If not, you could very well be in starvation mode girlie!!

Well the book is pretty vague as far as how many points... its all done by weight and anyone less than 150 is allowed a max of 20 points. I was still eating 22 which was the 150-175 range, but since I'm now under 150 I decided to drop down to 20, but I just didn't feel like I was getting enough, that my points ran out waaay too quickly. And I have been trying to eat my exercise points, but sometimes its hard to get them in because I factor them in AFTER I workout not before and usually its later in the evening when I am all done eating for the night.

I went ahead and put all my info into fitday as well as my activity and it suggests an 800 cal deficit to loose 1.5 lbs per week. For today I am currently about 1100 cals in the deficit, but is that too much??? Ugh I'm sooo confused right now...

However on the up side Stephen and I just finished the Academy Loop... we ran 90% and really kicked it the last 1/4 mile. Stephen was impressed with my finishing pace. I feel pretty good right now, proud of myself for pushing through, but I know I can do better. We run it again on Friday, hopefully we can shed more time off. Our first time we ran it in 55 mins, but walked ALOT and tonight we did it in 45 mins... hopefully we can get to 40 mins next time!!:hurray:

August 18

Okay today is my official day one of counting cals. I am a little apprehensive because I know I will be eating seemingly waaaay more than I am used to, and thats hard on the mind. But hopefully it will work out.

I did a 25 min ab workout this morning, felt pretty good. My left hip flexor has hated me since I started my running journey and it was really sore this morning, like hurt to walk sore. I brought my corn bag to work so that I can heat it and stretch it throughout the day. Tonight is full body strength training and I am looking forward to it.

So far I have had a protien shake with mixed berries and a dash of splenda, I haven't put it into fit day yet, but I am guessing its just under 200 cals.

I am officially loving FITDAY!! Who knew cal counting could be this easy???

Todays Eats:

Breakfast:
Protein shake w/berries: 180
Total: 180

Am Snack:
1 sm banana: 90
1 md orange: 62
Total: 152

Lunch:
20 Corn tortilla chips: 293
1/2 c salsa: 33
1/2 chicken philly sandwhich: 213
1 cup toss salad: 10
2 tbsp ranch dressing: 148
Total: 697
Note: I went out to lunch with TJ, should have not had as many chips and salsa as I did but it was freaking yummy!! I had a salad and not fries and only ate 1/2 my sandwhich... overall I think I did pretty good.

And I have a yogurt and some kashi for a pm snack.

Exercise:
25 min FIRM ab sculpt

Evening check in....

So I don't know how many cals my dinner was but I ended up with just over 1500 for the day. Fitday says I burned around 2800 cals today so again I am way in the deficit, but eating waaay more than before... or seemingly. I will try this out and see how it goes if I do any good.

My overall goal is to get down between 140-138 and then maintain that for a while before moving on. And again at that point I will reassess my goals both fitness wise and weight wise. Hopefully I can get there before the end of the year!

I did a FIRM workout this evening. Felt great! I haven't done a full body strength wo like that in months it seems. I remember when I first started doing the FIRM dvds, I could hardly make it through the first half... and now when I get to the end I could go for more!! Well... mostly... my legs were JELLO. But my legs are really weak or at least I think they are. My hip flexor is still really sore, I hope to be able to run intervals in the morning, but if it doesn't feel right I will for sure take it slow. Tomorrow is also salsa!!! Whoot Whoot!

I also wanted to mention that my parents are doing great on WW. My mom has over 100lbs to loose and my Pop 60lbs. They started a month ago and collectively they have lost 26lbs. My Pop is down 15 and Mom is down 11. I am so happy for both of them and for sticking to it. This last week my Mom didn't loose and I was scared for her because that is typically the breaking point for her when she stops loosing. But she said she is sticking to it and feels like her pants are already getting baggy. And my Pop's no beer beer belly is shrinking!!! Ha its amazing what eating right can do. I think they are mostly inactive at this point, but plan to start walking a few times a week. I am excited for them and anxious to see results!

My mom and I talked tonight and she happened to remind me how hard the last few pounds are to loose... just what I didn't want to hear. I feel like I myself am at a little bit of a road block. But this week is jam packed with workouts and good eats so even if the scale doesn't budge I know I did what I could. I have a tendency to get down on myself alot and stressed out about loosing.... and I forget that I have my whole life to get healthy. And I need to remind myself of how far I've come. I found my senior pics recently and WOW my face was rooooound and it doesn't even look like me... and even at that point I had lost 50lbs. My mom kept an old pair of my jeans from back then and before we went on our trip we had dinner at my parents and I asked to see them. They are a size 20w and I can almost fit into one leg! Stephen was amazed, he just can't see me as being that big... but I was and sadly I was only a kid.

Okay I'm done ranting for the evening. Its getting late and I should think about getting ready for bed.

Nighty Night

August 19

Lunchtime check in!

I feel like since I have been eating more I have more energy, and don't feel as wore down as before. And again FITDAY is amazing. I know that there has to be some percent of error, but I feel like I have a way better breakdown of what I am eating as far as my macros are concerned.

I was hoping to get up and do intervals this moring, but my body said NO. So I stretched really good and will do them this evening. I was going to go to salsa tonight, but I can catch a class on Satruday morning. My hip flexor is much better today. My co-worker used to be a gymnist and showed me a few stretches I can do and I plan to do them before and after I run tonight. I will NOT let this get in the way of my pre-training!!!

I am started to get pysched about school starting. I really wansnt excited, but now I'm ready! TJ and I talked about plans for biking to campus and what not... she lives 3 blocks from campus and I park at her house then either bike or walk. I am happy that I will be getting away from work for a few hours each day and get out and move around. I hate sitting on my arse!!

Today's Eats:
Breakfast:
Instant Breakfast (cholocate w/FF milk)

AM Snack:
1 c coffee
3 sugar cubes
2 tbsp non-dariy creamer
1 sm banana

Lunch:
Sm toss salad (home made... yummy!)
1/2 chicken philly (left over from yesterday's lunch)
7 tortilla chips.

My cals are currently at just under 800. I plan to have an orange, some yougurt and kashi later this afternoon... and who knows for dinner... I freaking forgot to take the pork chops out of the freezer, soooo I may have to result to???? Eek... Ideas welcome!!

PS. I have been feeling more like myself lately... even though my head is still bad I have chosen to ignore it! And I have been sleeping better so I'm sure that helps!!! YAY for feeling like me again!!!

Who knew counting calories could be so great? :) I'm glad u started doing that instead of the points. 20 points just seems so low, especially with all the exercise your doing, you deserve and can eat more I would think...

Exercise is on the menu for me as well this evening, so good luck!

-Sam

I agree with Sam. If I recall correctly you shouldn't go below 22points no matter what weight you are. Also, if you are exercising heavily you should eat more to make up that deficit. Plus the 30+ "extra points" are designed to be eaten each week. So you were totally under eating...don't know how you did it! You should have been close to 28-30points per day.

Have you watched biggest loser? There are weeks when the contestants try to lose more weight by skipping meals and it backfires every time. Their weight loss stalls and they are so confused because they work out for hours every day. Just goes to show that your body needs the right amount of calories so it doesn't shut down on you!

Good luck w/the counting calories. I don't have the time or patience for it. I'm sure it works as you are holding yourself accountable and can really focus in on how many calories you need to cut in order to lose weight.

I replied to your hip flexor question in my diary, but yes, I suffer from this too. It normally is from pushing myself harder than I normally do. Make sure to do some good exercises to stretch those out. My pain is more of like a sore muscle ache and usually fades within a day or so. I wouldn't worry too much unless it is a constant pain that doesn't go away.

You'll notice all kinds of new pains as you run further and further. I for example have an ankle injury that came about all the sudden when I ran 20 miles in one weekend...it's our body's way of saying "SLOW DOWN". LOL Listen to it!! If it hurts, something might be wrong...ease up. :)
