India's diary

Hi!
I'm India, a 25 years old Italian girl. I live in Rome and I'm a kindergarten teacher.
I'm here because I want to lose 17 kg (37.5 lbs) and I really need some support. I'd like to lose them by the end of the year.
I've been reading some of your diaries and you all seemed so motivated and strong willed!
I hope to find some good friends here. I'm quite shy but I promise I'm very friendly once you get to know me.

Well, let's start this challenge!

Welcome to the forum and best of luck reaching your goals in 2008! Just dont make this a new year's resolution, make this happen for yourself and try to stay committed throughout the year. Coming here regularly helps with the motivation and discipline.

Thank girls! I didn't expect such fast answers!

Blancita, I hope I'll be able to maintain my motivation throughout the year!

Welcome and good luck! What type of exercise and eating habits are you shooting for? You're more likely to follow through if you write some things down and try to stick to them!

Thank you Steve!

Radiant Pebble, I'm planning to follow a 1600 cals diet. I went to a doctor and he studied it out for me. It's a very good diet, it doesn't starve me and once every two weeks I can eat what I want. I think I'll use that day to go to the restaurant with my boyfriend!
The only problem for me is that I have to eat lots of vegetables and I don't like them that much.
I'm not a gym lover so I'm planning to walk for 40 minutes 3 times a week and go swimming on the weekend.
A friend of mine who's a personal trainer is preparing an exercise program for me to follow.

I hope my motivation will keep up!

The gym and veggie thing is hard for a lot of people, lol. My fiance is not really fond of veggies either but I found a few ways to sneak it in. Like veggies in soups, using spaghetti squash instead of angel hair pasta, putting extra veggies in stuffing, etc.

Thanks for stopping by my diary! 1200 calories isn't too difficult to do actually. Most foods I eat are really filling or low calorie. For instance, protein and high fiber foods keep you feeling full for a long time. Veggies and fruits for snacks are really low calorie.

Today was a good day. I didn't have cravings and I feel a lot less bloated than the last few days. Probably it's all the Christmas food going away...
My menu was:

breakfast: 1 croissant (35 gr) + 125 gr yogurt + 1 cup of tea
snack: 1 kiwi and 2 mandarin oranges
lunch: 90 gr pasta with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 50 gr of cream cheese + 50 gr cream cheese (I could eat 100 gr) + vegetables
snack: 1 big apple
dinner: 100 gr salmon + 90 gr bread + 1 tomato

plus, I drank 2 cups of an infusion (fucus algae) my doctor gave me which helps speeding up my metabolism.

I was also happy 'cause I found the time to meditate. I really needed it. It was a bit like cuddling myself.

The curious thing is that I feel...empty. Not hungry, just empty. I think it's because I used to eat much more than I needed and now it feels weird to stop before feeling as full as possible.

Hello India~
Sounds like you have a very good plan going.
The vegetable thing will grow on you. It did on me. I agree with Blancita not to make this a NYR. Far to many people will do that and after the inital "big" pound drop they will give up. Just think of it as a life style change. In fact don't even use the dreaded D word. Diets as a whole imply that this is only a short term endeavor. Just read the cover of any womens magazine and you will understand what I mean.
I think that it is very doable for you to achieve your goals with the plan and the time frame that you have set for yourself.
Just remember that if you have one bad day to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and start all over.
Heck just read my entry to my diary today and you will see how badly I screwed up yesterday.
The differences in me now verses then are more than just what people see on the outside. I now know what needs to be done when I fall off the wagon and I will do it.
Where as before I knew but either didn't care or felt it was unattainable.
You can do this!!!!
Remember one drop of rain raises the levels of the ocean~ Dinotopia
A little bit at a time will get the job done!

I also get that depleted feeling. That is when your leptin levels decrease and send a signal to your brain that you're hungry and to start eating. Its very hard to get around those signals as they're strong and originate in your subconscious mind. If I had an answer to this, I'll be sure to let you in on it! Ha ha

Eating in Italia! Not easy since you have some of the world's best food. I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks once when I went to Italy.

Thank you Bellaryna! You're a very kind person! I really hope to have the strength to get to the bottom of this. I'm afraid to lose motivation after a while. I am aware that my eating plan is well balanced and that I gave me and my body enough time to reach my goal safely so I hope I'll be able to make it.

Aaaah I know you will make it!!!
With all of us on here to cheer you on you don't have a choice!!! LOL
Seriously when you start to feel that unmotivated pull, tell us and let us help you out of that. Sometimes all it takes is a good kick in the pants from someone who understands what you are going thru.
Or a hug. Just depends on the type of person you are.
I am a kick in the pants girl!!!! hahahaha :smilielol5::smilielol5:

Hi India!

Welcome to the forums. You'll get lots of great support and advice here. Just keep yourself focused on whats important. It's easy to become discouraged in the beginning or when you don't think you're making any progress, but you can do this. You just have to give your body time to adjust to the new life you're trying to give it.

Blancita yes, we do have very good food :) fortunately it can be very healthy too if eaten in the right way. Pasta for example can subsitute bread (we eat it almost everyday) and our main dressing is olive oil that if used in small portions (not more than 4 teaspoons per day) is very healthy.
The diffucult thing is going to the restaurant!

CaseyAtMartin thanks for your welcome! I love pasta too...I could eat it everyday at every meal!

Wow, I can hardly keep up with all your posts! Thank you so much to all of you!

I have to go now, my boyfriend's coming at my place for a movie night ( it's almost 9 pm here) and I have to get ready.
I'll post in your diaries later.

See you all and thanks for your support!

I think it's great that you meditate. I try to meditate every night, it keeps me focused on my goals. I haven't mediated since I got sick though. The night time meds just knock me out! Lol.
