Thought I'd do this too
1. What is your current height and weight?
5"11, 351 lbs
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
Ideal...uhm...probably around 175 lbs, but I doubt I'll ever get there. 200 lbs will do me nicely
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
Hmm...4 months...that would be Christmas...about 325 maybe?
4. Why do you want to lose weight?
I just don't want to be fat anymore, my blood pressure is going through the roof, and I'm sick and tired of seeing that fat old cow in the mirror!
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
No, just want to be healthy enough to make it past my 40th birthday (which isn't for another 7 years!)
6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
I love food. Food's my security blanket. I eat when I'm happy, sad, lost, angry...you get the picture. And I get discouraged quickly.
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Because I know that 350 lbs are just too much. I've known that I have a weight problem for about 20 years, I just never managed to do something about it.
Also, having grown up with an abusive stepfather, then ending up in an abusive relationship, followed by drug abuse wasn't helping at all. I always thought that I needed to be big to feel secure, the more people hurt me, the bigger I got. For a long time, I did hide behind layers of fat, thinking that I was safe there. I think I have finally left all of that behind, and am ready to face the world without my protective barrier.
8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Eat consciously, have a more regular lifestyle, exercise
9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
I had gastric-banding about 9 years ago, and lost 70 lbs in 6 months. Unfortunately, that wasn't down to the band actually working, but because I couldn't keep anything down, no solid food, no drinks, nothing. I spent most of those 6 months in hospital, believing doctors who told me that I just needed to 'adjust' to the band, and everything would be fine soon. I eventually fell unconscious while driving, had a crash, and ended up in surgery. They removed the band while I was under - turned out I am allergic against silicone, which the band was made of, and the area around the band was swollen and infected, completely blocking the entrance to my stomach. Needless to say, after it was out and things had healed, it took only a very short time for the weight to come back.
10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I went back to eating normally, and after basically starving for 6 moths, my body just constantly signalled that it was hungry, so I ate....
11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Any kind of diet. I tried them all, most of them are expensive, time consuming or both. And they don't work. If you need to lose 10 lbs, fine, but if you need to lose a large amount of weight, they won't work, unless you're willing to diet for the rest of your life. I'm not.
12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I am doing that at the moment.
13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I hate cooking, and I'm bad at it. All the stuff I can actually do is full of cream, fat, cremé fraiche and other high calorie stuff. I need to learn to cook other stuff, but can't really motivate myself yet.
14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
I don't go out to eat at all.
15. What are your three favorite foods?
Hmm....beef in creamy white wine sauce, pasta with cream and garlic mushrooms, Lamb Korma (See where the problem lies?)
16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Hardrock Cafe, McDonalds
17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Don't eat piles of chocolate/cookies/cake etc, don't eat 4 portions for dinner, eat some fruit and veg for a change
18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
Hmm...everything and nothing really. I would feel more confident, but probably also more nervous to go out and possibly attract attention. I don't think I could deal with that yet.
19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Yes, all the time.
20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
I usually do that at least once a day, at dinner time. I don't know the feeling of being full, all I know is hungry, or being so full I feel sick.
21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No.
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Yes.
23. Do you eat as a reward?
Yes.
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yes, I can't remember the last time I had dinner at the table. We don't do family dinners.
25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
Normally as in before trying to lose weight? Usually pasta, loads of it, and creamy sauces, curries, and loads of meat. Now I try small portions, more rice, vegetables, and no gravy.
26. What type of snacks do you eat?
Before I tried to lose weight...anything that was in sight. Chocolate, cookies, whatever. Now I'm eating mostly fruit.
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
2 x 20 minutes on my mini-exercise bike, hoping to make it more and more with time.
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Home. I won't set foot into a gym yet.
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Hmm....walking on the treadmill really. That's it.
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Not sure to be honest. Just wanting to be healthier and less heavy I guess, and showing everybody else that I can really do it.
31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
I am planning on getting some new tattoos over time. Also, new clothes when I actually drop a size or two. Every now and again just something small...maybe a body lotion or something like that. Not sure yet.
