From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Doh--I missed the new diary. I thought you had been really inactive since there were no posts in the old one. I'm sorry about your parent teacher conferences. My school is pretty good about it, but some schools have half the parents not show even when the weather is good. Its Friday and we're done with standardized testing today. Life is good.

i was looking at your starting weight... and im a couple of pounds off... you have gotten really great results... and i was wondering if you would care to share the secret to your success?!? ;)

Hey I just noticed the 5k you're training for. Last year I had to train to walk it and my friend and I finished it in 45 minutes while pushing a stroller. I'll be back doing it again this year--it really was a great way to motivate and inspire myself.

I let Sour Jelly Bellys get the best of me today... oops. But man they were good! :D

Mmmm, my favorite.

I think it is great you are doing a 5K. I might do one at the end of the month, still deciding. I did my first Half Marathon last October, it was a great feeling when I finished it. I should have started with the 5K though.

Yes, she had me at the tender age of 17! :)

Happy late birthday to your momma! I have a young momma too...she'll be 48 this month...and she has a 30 year old! I'm the youngest of three, and I'll be 25 next month.

I saw on the news this morning it was snowing in your neck of the woods (i.e. Texas)....hope it's not bumming you out too much

P.S. - I stink at quoting!~

I finally made it in here to respond to everyone's comments! This is going to be the longest post ever! :)

Sorry it took me forever!

Ah yes, the end of TAKS testing! It's as though life ceases to exist during THE TEST. It's hard, because we have to keep our kids absolutely silent all day! The library is closed, no recess because the playground is near testing rooms, and there are people posted everywhere telling us which hallways we can use. It's so hard to keep them sane while keeping us caged in our rooms!

Welcome!

I have no real secret! I have just been exercising very regularly. I started out small, and I have gradually increased what I expect of myself.

Also, I am pretty strict on my eating. Right now I am getting about 1500 calories a day.

I wish you lots of success!

Thanks! I am really looking forward to it! I am going to run the whole thing, but I am not anticipating any record breaking speeds! Lol! I think just proving to myself that I can do it will be reward enough!

Mmmm, my favorite.

Half marathon! WOW! Maybe some day I will be able to attempt something like that!

I actually have enjoyed having a young momma! Of course she loves that we are always mistaken for sisters! :)

It did snow! I love seeing it, but it ruined my outdoor plans. Oh well... I made use of the elliptical instead!

You have a great weekend, too!

Hi there, my fellow red team member! :D

I am very proud of the fact that I am now training for a specific 5K! I am going to run in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on May 3! It benefits breast cancer, so it is something that I am very proud of. I am hoping to be able to complete it in 30 minutes, but only time will tell!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

:)

Hi Tyly,

My first time stopping in your diary :) I just wanted to say that I know you are sweet, but really reading about this race for the cure that you will be involved in, I am convinced that you are the sweetest :D I love the goals you have set for yourself and I think it's really cool what your doing. Keep up all of the good work!! I am so proud of you!!:grouphug:

Any fiber suggestions?

I am currently eating one Fiber One bar a day, and I love them! The box says they provide 35% of your daily fiber. I just bought 2 of the Fiber One cereals today, and one says its 35%, while the other one is 51%!

So if I eat 1 bar and 1 bowl of cereal, that will almost be 100% of my fiber needs.

Any other ideas to up my fiber (other than prunes!)? :D

Wow!

What a huge compliment!

Thank you so much for that!

Don't forget about the fruits and veggies you're eating. They totally count!

Parent Teacher Conference *shutter*. In my sister's first year of teaching, she had such a wacho parent come in that the secretaries hid her in a closet for a half hour until he left!

WOOHOO! My Saturday ESL class is finally done!!! I'm glad I did it, but I am so happy to finally have my Saturdays back!!!

********

I did Day 2 of Week 8 today.

When I got home, I was very frustrated.

During the last 5 minutes, I just felt so defeated because I barely made it any farther than I did on my last 28 minute run. I was trying really hard to cover more distance, but it just wasn't happening! I did run a tiny bit farther, but not enough to get excited about.

I was bummed when I sat on the couch. James asked what was wrong, and I told him that I was bummed about being a slow runner.

He couldn't have handled it any better.

He told me that I should be proud of the fact that I am now able to run 28 minutes straight! (I'm sure I could go longer, but I'm sticking to the program.) He reminded me that only a few months ago I couldn't run 5 minutes straight, and he also reminded me of the fact that I have never been a runner, so I can't expect to be able to run at high speeds in only 2 months (I started in January)! He also said the fact that I can run 28 minutes shows how much I have accomplished, and that I should be very proud of the shape that I am in now. He reminded me of all the hard work I have put into this and how far I have come. He made me feel so much better!

I would love to be fast, but that is going to take a while. Probably a long while. I have never been a runner in my life, so I don't know why I got the idea that I should be able to accomplish so much at once! I need to be proud of the accomplishments I am making and not dwell on what I need to improve on. I was really wanting to get that 5K done in a certain time, but now I know I need to work towards being able to confidently run the entire 5K without stopping... the speed will come in time! I think I just wanted it to all happen at once, and I have now realized that it doesn't work that way! And thankfully, I am ok with that. :)

I did it! I did it!

No more talking about doing it - I did it!

I registered for the race!

:D

James is one smart cookie!!! :)

He has his moments! :)

I will say that was the perfect time for him to have one of his brilliant moments. I was really needing a pick-me-up, and he came through. I already feel much better about it, because now I am more focused on completing my goals rather than stressing over a specific time. I hated feeling depressed after my run instead of accomplished, ya know? Before, I always felt so proud of the fact that I was able to do it, but for a while now I have been down about not being fast. That's done. I'm back to being proud! :D

Oh Tyly! I am glad your feeling better about things. I tend to do the same thing you do. I think in my head, man I should be so much farther along than I am with this weight loss and I get down sometimes. I, a lot of the time, tend to focus on the things that I still need to do than the things I've already accomplished.

Yes, she had me at the tender age of 17! :)

I did good with the food. I had like 5 wheat thins, and one tiny peice of the cinnamon danish.

I'm a bit frustrated that I lost no weigh this week. I have been doing an extra bit of snacking, and I haven't "gone" in 3 freakin' days! Time to cut the snacking and up the fiber!

Your mama was a young mama. My parents didn't have me until they were 30... Now my dad's 55 and he's pretty cool. He's very young at heart, not that 55 is old at all. He's really laid back and he's a good guy. It's a pity because he's now married to my stepmother, who is a bitch on wheels.

Good luck with the fiber. The regular Fiber One cereal kind of tastes like shit but, it's loaded with fiber and pretty much a guaranteed BM. I think it has something like 14 or 15 grams per serving. Brown rice always does the trick for me too.

Brown rice! I will have to try that!

I have been eating the Fiber One cereals and Fiber One bars. Here's hoping for a trip to the toilet! :D I'm such a lady! Hehe.

On a very happy note, I ate my bowl of cereal, worked out, then stepped on the scale...

163.8! WOOHOO!

I am normally lighter after a workout, but I had also eaten breakfast and drank water! I'm trying not to get too excited since it's not my "official" Friday weigh in, but it was REALLY nice to see a new low! :D
