From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Day 68
3.1 miles (5K)
30:07 PR
Indoor track

Just barely missed my long term goal 30 minute 5K. I ran hard and it felt good. No hip pain and the new shoes are broken in now.

Hi Q. Well done on getting stuck into the running consistently, even though you must be peeved at the turn your job has taken. Hope the new low stuck!

Thanks everyone!

I had a very long day driving 400 miles alone and working in some swamps too.

Day 69
1.25 miles
13:50
Mellow pace just getting it done so I could drive home before I fell asleep.

Didn't weigh today and I ate too much. Good stuff, but too much of it. I was very hungry probably because of tiredness and stress. Good night WLF friends!

I don't know what you do for a living but having to drive 400 miles AND work in a swamp?? Yea that's not happening for me...lol Even thou I am an outdoorsman and an adventurous I would only do things like that for some adventure and excitement. Well except for my previous employment but that was more danger than adventure, but adventure none the less.

That didn't include my hour round trip commute either. I'm a wetland biologist GGH. Luckily it was a crappy day which happen too often, but not all the time. I work in some sketchy areas near the border and some very remote locations, but nothing like what you've dealt with. We aren't allowed to have firearms on the job. A machete and a knife are the only things I have in the field. Angry land owners And hunters (sometimes both) are the only times I've seen guns other than the tier 3 security they have on all the south Texas ranches. Snakes, wild hogs, and wasps provide the biggest hazards along with weather and terrain.

So 265.4 this morning. No shock as I've been stress eating. I'll do better today.

oh ok cool. My firm has a wetlands type division also. I think... Hell I don't know, it has something to do along that lines. I just sit behind a computer and draw pictures all day.

I'll have to share that sentiment with our archaeologists here LaMa.

Sounds like CAD or GIS work GGH. I push paper until they let me play in the mud again.

:D Nothing against archeology, hard and interesting work, but what Indiana Jones does is called "robbery" or "destruction of historical sites" in my book.

If I can misconstrue something to make fun of my Arch buddies I will. I call them shovel bums and one of them informed me that a shovel bum is a contract archaeologist that drifts from project to project. I replied that sounded like a distinction a shovel bum would make. I also make jargon jokes with them to make fun of our specialized vocabularies and especially any unnecessary usage. Things like "Litihic debitage sounds like solid excrement from a male Bos taurus." The reply was "If you find both it's a miden.".

I love the swamps Mystic. It's the arid region isolated long-term projects in my future that have me stressing.

Very cool GGH! I listen to a design podcast series called 99% invisible by Roman Mars. If you haven't heard it you should check it out. It does lots of architecture topics, but all other elements of design as well. Mostly he tells a very interesting story as I have little connectivity to design.

Yesterday's run
Day 70
2 miles
19:11
I was just going to do a steady pace, but a skinny teenage girl we refer to as "Floppy" due to her poor running gait tried to run me down after I'd run most of a mile. I didn't let her pass me and I'm pretty sure that's a 2 mile PR. I'm sure she feels pretty crappy about herself as she was trying very hard, but she should feel a bit crappy if she can't pass an almost 40 year old obese man. Sorry Floppy, but you should be lapping me with ease. I made her work on that and she certainly pushed my pace.

265.4 again this morning. I left my dinner that I was supposed to pack and was out very late so I didn't eat until 11 at night and I was starving and scarfed. Straight home after the gym tonight so I should be good if I can slay the stress munchies.

Poor Floppy. Unfortunately, it's all too common for younger women to run JUST hard enough to maintain their shape, but not enough to do much for them in terms of cardio health.

She is there often, but mostly walks slowly. Last night was the longest and hardest that she has run. She usually wears full sized headphones which wouldn't stay on during my runs. She's young and thin, but in poor shape. I bet she kicks my butt soon enough and that will make me happy. As it is we both made each other work harder and that is what productive competition is all about. I'm running a slow pace tonight as my knees are wore out so if she is there she can have a hollow victory for now.

Also Cory I thought I would mention that my no soda, energy drink, or artificial sweetener resolution has stuck. None of that all year. I was so sleepy on my long drive, but I settled for crappy gas station coffee black. If that didn't push me to an energy drink I should be good.
