Flyer's diary

As a Star Trek lover I couldn't agree more :D
funny... i never thought of that hook.

devoid of compassion with a huge ego...?
does sound familiar, though... :)

a little over a week ago i was seeing 170-172 pretty consistently ... maybe the best part of intermittent fasting is the ability to turn things around rather fast. i don't want to give the impression it is easy, but with motivation i can put myself into OMAD (one meal a day) mode fairly easily. nothing seems to perform a reset better than a few 20/4 days slung in a row.

picked this up for $5 in Like New condition from Abebooks...

Commander in Cheat.jpg

something i can't believe i'd never thought about before. being a caddy was my first job and though i played golf, i can say in all honesty that i only broke 100 three or four times. probably my saddest 100+ round was a day when i was putting for par on the 18th hole and somehow i managed to hit my foot with my putter, it ricocheted and tapped my ball moving it a few inches. nobody saw it. i could have gotten away with the par and a 99 round, but i would have known and that's all that mattered to me.

golf is like that. when you are out with friends there are no umps ... no refs ... it is a game of trust.
you have to trust nobody will cheat because it's so easy to cheat.

i watched an interview with Rick Reilly, someone who knows and writes about golf for a living. his stories about Trump and golf are eye opening. if you know anyone who plays whether they are politically minded or not, get this book for them. they will see Trump for what he is... a cheat and a liar. there is no other way of looking at it.

Congrats!!

So what is your maintenance range? Do you have one?
if i see 170+ late in the day, i usually see 168 early the next day, but for a while... actually it's not really over... i've been being a real chair potato (i try to avoid the couch) and for a stretch i wasn't seeing anything in the 160's. that's my alarm bell. along with being lazy i was breaking my IF too many days. i just took about 2 weeks and decided to get back to following all the rules and it seems to have worked. i will still be careful after my vaccination, but i look forward to being a bit more adventurous and getting outside most days.

I remember the first days/weeks of lockdown and how hard it was to stay active. If I hadn't found a new job when I did I'd probably be an immobile blob by now. Kudos to you for pulling the ripcord.

I might get that book from the library. Golf is such a game of trust. Most of the penalties I have called on myself no one else saw.

it really does take a golfer to understand. many people who see golf on TV where there are officials and 100's of spectators watching, wouldn't really get this. when you are out playing in a foursome, especially when you're off the fairway looking for your ball, you are often 20 or 30 yards away from your group. i've rarely seen a lie in the rough that couldn't be improved, but it is a foul to even touch your ball before it reaches the green. golf is the perfect game for someone with no moral compass to excel at.

i haven't received the book yet, but i'm looking forward to Reilley's comments on Arnold Palmer. in his talk he opined about how Palmer would always invite a perspective client or partner out to play golf with him before he made a business decision. he would watch closely with his tenet being that anyone who would cheat playing golf by improving their lie or shaving a stroke off their score would not be a person he would trust in any business venture.

Your approach to watching the weight seems reasonable. Maybe I should think of it the same way, just 10 lbs lower. You are taller than me, so its about the same body wise.

Trump cheat at golf? Who would have thought...

being reasonable isn't always on the calendar. busy day today, 6:30 and i feel too lazy to think about breakfast. why not start a multi-day fast. i'll have to see how this goes. not much food in the house, so a lot of incentive.

so i'm well past 24 hours but it occurred to me that i have the vaccination coming up on Friday and the last thing i want to do is stress my body too much. i will quit multi-day tomorrow, but will stick to an OMAD diet through the weekend. it helped me reset a while back, but i want to try to get down to the low 160's again. it'll probably take the better part of a month, but this will be a good way to jump-start it. if the next few days go as today did .... a very busy day... my condo is 3 levels so i can do a lot of steps (the up and down sort) in a day .... it should be easy.

this may not make a whole lot of sense, but regarding any fast, multi-day or intermittent. when it come to breakfast, i rarely eat when i feel hungry. if a hunger episode coincides with a time i've planned to have a meal, i will let that feeling pass first. it's likely 100% psychological, but it works for me. hunger is simply a trick your mind plays which i like to counter to make it my choice.

it's a long day so i'm not going to dwell on it, but with a multi-day fast, i'd forgotten how much easier day 2 is. i might keep going another 24 hours.

arrived today ... should be finished by the weekend.
so far an interesting mix funny and sad.

spoiler alert... Woodrow Wilson may have played even more rounds than Trump.
big difference, though... Wilson would tee off, play 18 and be at his desk working by 9am.

probably at about 48 hours now. went for a walk this morning and the entertainment of being outside for a change helped. i really haven't been hungry today, but once or twice i was tempted to eat out of boredom... luckily that book arrived and gave me some distraction for a few chapters.

one thing i've noticed about fasting... it seems to make you more alert. last night i didn't fall asleep until well after midnight. i should be tired today, but i seem to be more energized than usual. i'm sure if this were 10,000 years ago i'd be out hunting something.

now i'm curious to see what this brings in the morning...
