Flumes Journal....

Thanks Sunflower. I really appreciate the compliment.

So I don't know what happened. Yesterday wasn't a bad day eating, as well as the day before.....jump on the scale this morning....209?!?!?!

Jump on it again...same thing. I'm going to change the friggin batteries tomorrow...I dont know. 3+ lbs and I was good!

I'm workin nites so I know Im not gettin enuff sleep....4 hours a day sucks. And I know with all the work that Im doing in the garage, I am sure I burned more cals than I would have if I would have gotten 8 hours sleep.

Did I mention I was in a shitty mood?? lol

I had energy to burn today, (I tend to be active when Im pissed off)....even went in to work late so I could sweep, mop and vacuum the house before my wife and kids got home from camp. (She'll know I had a bad day as soon as she sees the house is clean! lol)

Oh...and the weather has been sunny and +30s all weekend here while I am working. Tomorrow starts my days off and its cold and rainy! WTF!

Im going to weigh in tomorrow again....so much for havin a cheat meal on my days off. Sheesh.

Don't get so down on yourself Flumes :) You always do so great and to have gained 3 pounds you would have to have eaten 10,500 calories about your maintenance, so it is probably some extra water. Maybe you had more sodium than usual yesterday? Could be that... don't give up... you do so great!

Thanks Shawnnam...your right....wife made some awesome chili and it was salty. I also didnt drink very much water for the past couple of days...so hopefully your right.

At least you ladies get to blame your little gains on your TOM...I gotta blame it on my wifes cooking! lol

Have a great nite.

Well the scale gets to live another day. I weighed in at 207.2 this morning. I was a lil happier but not as happy as if I would have if I seen a 205.9!

I'm going to start talking to it...and not politely either. If it gives me attitude, its going curbside to be recycled into a doormat.

So after a short four hours sleep, I had my oatmeal and got back in the garage and started drywalling. Wifey made me a delicious scrambled egg and lettuce sandwhich on whole rye bread. I then got frustrated in the garage and went to the gym. I did great....heartrate up to over 150 on the treadmill which is my highest without reaching for a defibrilator. I also leg pressed 1x max 100 lbs over my my first max two months ago.
I then showered and got the kids from school and got them supper. I had a protein drink and two prunes for post workout while the kids had pizza...(I was dying it looked soooo good) Note to self....protein drinks and prunes dont go together.

I Then cooked my supper chicken breast and steamed veggies. I cooked enough chicken to last a week.

I also had my last snack of cottage cheese mixed with tuna. So my cals were
B - 350
L - 260
S - 140
D - 400
S - 240
Total - 1390 which seems low considering I was full

I have room for a couple of rum....Its my nite off.

Is rum a protein, carb or fat! lol

Have a great nite folks...I am outta here! (til tommow)

Flumes, I saw your pics on before and after section. I am really looking forward to seeing you shrink!

Haven't tried oatmeal for brekkie in so long. I think I'm gonna try me some.

For sodium bloating, water water water water....there isn't a better cure for sodium induced bloating than water. Good luck this week!

Thanks comment Juni!

If your going to do oatmeal...I have a big reccomendation.

I first started on regular rolled oats...the ones that took 5 minutes to cook. They were ok. Then I read about steel cut oats. My gawd....I find them 100% better. They are way more filling and cheaper in the long run.

They take about 1/2 an hour to cook, but they have more of a basmati rice consistency when I do them. (1 cup oats to 4 cups water)...and I cook em al dente a bit. And I make a batch to last me all week. When I need them, I add 1/2 scoop cookies and cream protein powder, 6 oz of lo fat milk and some frozen raspberries and blueberries. Nom Nom Nom!
It is really good for the digestive system and is a great way to start your day.

Energy with a capital N! lol

Have a great one!

And thanks for the water affirmation! You are soo right..I dont drink enough of it. And I love salt! lol

I will increase intake....and see what happens :)

Thanks again!

Hey Flumes, don't get down about fluctuations in weight - it happens to all of us (although women do get to use more of an excuse!!). Its one of the reasons that I find weigh-ins either extremely motivating or a real downer...and I have to tell myself to focus on the long term picture - that month by month the lbs go down, the clothes get looser and less wobbles. I think if you are seeing these kind of changes then the poundage is incidental!! Afterall, would you like to weigh 180lbs but look like you do now? Or would you rather weigh 200lb but look like you weigh 180? See?!? Its the "look" and the "feel" thats more important!! Pounds are just the mindset we are in to measure it at the moment.

I think you are doing great - the diet looks really healthy (and a bit of rum now and again can't hurt...pirates have more fun than puritans I always say!!)

Well today was humbling.

I finally got my orientation on freeweights.

I thought I had it going on on the machines. Freeweights are soooo different.

I could only squat the bar...no added weight. (I leg press 315 on a machine)
My dumb bell curls were 15 lbs each....I can do combined 60lbs on the machine with barely pushing it.

If your not familiar with free weights vs machines....Machines have a linear movement that is controlled while you lift. Freeweights are ...free. You have to balance the weights while you lift and this takes a whole bunch of different muscles, rather than just the targeted muscle group.
Its like nite and day.

I wasnt expecting the difficulty and I am a little depressed cause I'll be starting with very low weights. (To a guy, big ego flop lol)

Oh well....the old adage 'careful what you wish for" is true. I hope I can stay motivated long enough to get those gains happening.

Diet today....
B-Oatmeal with r&b and protein powder.
S-Protein drink
L-Salad
S-Tuna and cottage cheese
D-6 oz steak and veggies. 8 oz watermelon (I am looking up the calories after the fact....better be decent!)
S-fruit and yogurt. Might need some carbs depending on when my wife gets home ;)

Have a great nite y'all!

Great for your core muscles though - as you are really having to work to control the balance and movement range as well as physically lift the weight. You'll build up soon enough Flumes - remember the first time you stepped on a treadmill or did some cardio and felt like the biggest WHEEZEBAG in the whole history of the world? (well, at least I did!!!). This is just like that...with weights...give it a few weeks and you'll be miles ahead of where you are now.

I am constantly humbled at the gym, but I think that's just part of the process. This is a great step and soon you'll be stronger than you'd ever think you could be -- that's what I tell myself when I'm red-faced and panting on the treadmill at the university gym next to some skinny sorority girl who's barely broken a sweat!

Remember what a good thing you're doing for your body and your life!

Sorry to hear about the weight fluctuations. That happens to me a lot. One salty meal and I can put on 3 pounds. Also, do you weigh at the same time each day? I am usually 3 to 4 pounds heavier at night than in the morning. I can't imagine where the weight goes while I sleep -- dehydration probably --but it happens all the time.

Congratulations on challenging yourself with the free weights.

My first time I went....I was 5 minutes on the treadmill and literally gasping for air. I was only doing 3.5 mph and 0 incline. when I got off I had the lightheadedness....like I was walking on the moon.
I knew the past 20 yrs of a sedentary lifestyle was taking its toll on me.

So now...I can do 20 minutes at 4.00 mph. I like to put the incline up around 3/4 mark to get my heart rate up to 140s+ and then level back out for a cooldown. And no lightheadedness.....it really does get the blood flowing and clears up the coconut of cobwebs. Its a good feeling.
And its wild how you build stamina slowly but surely. Happy Happy! :)

This happens to me all the time...instead its one of Arnolds relatives who literally hovers effortlessly over the treadmill. I look down at my donkey legs and wonder if I ever will get like that....yeah...humbling.

Yup...after a shower each morning. I used to before and it literally made me feel heavier not being awake. After a shower....I feel lighter...(maybe its the heavy dirt that washes off! lol) I also dont get as depressed as when I did before showering...its like I am happier. Prolly doesnt make sense but thats what it feels like. lol
And thanks for the compliment on the free weights. Friday Im going to do it on my own with no assistance...well see how that one goes! lol If you notice my typing is a lil off, its probably cause I dropped a dumbell on my fingers! lol Have a great day! (Love your diary by the way....so regimental and confident. Awesome!"

Shawnnam asked..."How are you today Flumes?"

Well...let me tell you! lol

It started out by going to bed too late last nite and waking up wayyyy to early.
12:20am - 4:40am. Busy day in store at work so I packed alot of healthy food.
(I feel stress and I eat!)

What I wasnt ready for was how sore i was. My legs felt like they were trampled on by a stampede of wildebeests. My shoulders hurt to pull my t-shirt on. And my glutes didnt feel like sitting so much for some reason!. I think the first free weight session was a success...even though I hardly lifted any weights. Oh well...it felt good.

So I had my oatmeal for brekkie and not long after I had a energy bar. (Believe it or not, I found it on my vehicle after working out with the free weights. Probably someone advertising it, (or an ex laced it with arsenic and left it as bait.) Well....I took a chance on the former and it was delicious. 240 cals and I felt pretty darn good. Clif Bar peanut butter in case your wondering) Anyways....I think my cals were around 600 before it was even 730 am. I thought it was going to be a bad cal day....but I made it until lunch and had 1 can tuna, some cottage cheese and a nice salad.
I then snacked on an apple a few hours later. And supper was cucumber tomato salad with (yup you guessed it) another can of tuna.
Snack tonite was three prunes...and Im going to do a protein drink before bed.

I think my either my energy bar is wearing out or ???....im starting to feel tired...the room is turning grey...I cant feel my lips...catn tpye...

LOL

Have a great bite kids...I mean nite! lol

heheh you must have been desperate to be snaffling other peoples energy bars!!!

Sounds like the free weights were doing something if you feel the after effects!

Hey there!
Thanks for commenting on my thread. I really appreciate it, especially the info about the nuts!!
I don't think I've read your journal before, but I'll have to go through it now. Even though I'm sort of sexist and usually only look at ones written by girls. Haha.

Yay for someone else who eats multiple cans of tuna in a day...!
Are you ever concerned about mercury poisoning?
I haven't read back through your journal or anything, but do you eat a lot of it often? At one point a few years back, I was eating a can and a half every single day, and I THINK I did get mercury poisoning, maybe...just self-diagnosed though, so I'm not sure. xD

How do you cope with so little sleep Flumey? (which is now your new nickname :p) Or the Flumeinator. Or Flumebot. Or flumeaton.

As you can tell I'm also lacking in the sleep department. I find it makes my calories go up so much :( I'd much rather sleep all day. I dont want to grow up!!

Anyway--You're doing awesome. Keep up the amazing work.

P.S. You can totally have pizza with the kids! I have goodfellas mini pizzas which are only 357 calories with a salad! Yum yum yummmm
