Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Beth Ann, did you say you met TomO?! If so I am JEALOUS! That would be so cool, I'd love to talk politics with Tommy, but then again we'd agree about everything so it would probably get boring. Hopefully Tom's back is feeling better.

Oh Tom. It is no good to see you posting about hurting yourself then disappearing. I hope your back is behaving or about to, and also that you are back posting soon.

Your weight loss has been amazing lately. It's great to see you being teased about a number so much smaller than the ones you were reporting on such a short time ago.

Steve, Kelly, Beth, Mechelle, Cannon, Blancita, Felici, David:

Thanks so much for all your support and concern. That's really nice of you all.

The reason I've been gone for a few days is that I just got overwhelmed with work. I'm late on a major project, and I've literally been putting in 16 hours a day. That leaves me enough time for exercise, having dinner with my wife, and that's about it. Something had to give, and WLF was it.

The Scale Gods have come out in full force for Round 7. On August 1, I was at 221.8 lbs. Then on the 2nd, I was at 223.6; on the 3rd, 224.2; on the 4th, 226.8; and on the 6th, 228.4. Granted, I didn't have the huge deficits I've been having, but I was at a deficit, yet I gained 7 pounds in 6 days. Wow - that's enough to freak even me out! Fortunately, I dropped down to 225.6 yesterday, and 224.8 today. Totally weird, but that's how the Scale Gods like it. Just when you think you've got it all figured out, WHAM - they hit you upside the head and make you remember they're not pussies.

I've been laying off the weights while my back healed, and today it's just about back to normal. I plan on resuming my weight training later this week or first thing next week. In the meantime, I'm still riding my bike an average of an hour a day.

As I predicted, these last 30 pounds will be quite a bit tougher than the first 45 pounds. I have no doubt it will take me until July of next year to win this battle.

I can't promise I'll be on here as much as I was in the past, at least until my project is done. I've got a deadline of October 1, and I'm desperately trying not to be late with that.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Beth and Bruce at the reception for my latest photography show last Saturday night. I swear, you would think they were denizens of FitnessAmerica.com, not WLF. They are one healthy looking, attractive couple! I'm hoping we'll all go on a nice bike ride together in September.

Tom, It's so good to see you posting! I was worried that something had happened to you (in my worse case scenario worrying....your back was worse or you had a bike accident) so I am relieved and happy that your absence was due to the fact that you got swamped with work (not that THAT is a good thing  )

Thank you for the sweet compliment! Bruce and I may be farther in our journey but we are not to the finish line yet. I do have more weight to lose to arrive in the mid-range of my healthy weight and both of us have fitness goals to meet. (I think we should always have new fitness goals...but I will save that for my diary...hehehhe).

Anyway...we understand that work may take precedent over WLF....trust me this week has been nuts for me at work! :(

The scale gods were just messing with you...glad that they settled down a bit and your weight dropped some. It does freak you out, though....not a good thing when you are already stressing about work!

Hope you get much accomplished and have a good rest of your week! :)

Thanks again, Beth. Actually, I don't think we'll ever be "finished" in this journey. Even if we get to our ideal weights, the Scale Gods will be lurking in the shadows, waiting for a comeback.

I've been having, but I was at a deficit, yet I gained 7 pounds in 6 days. Wow - that's enough to freak even me out!

Glad you're back and OK! Glad you healed! Jealous that you met Bethann and Bruce!! Scale gods been screwing with me, despite my birthday, I'm pining the loss of my BF living with me, and worried about the furture and bummed that I'm in love with someone whose not really good for me. As a result I lost 7 lbs in a week. :( And I've been eating!!! Around 1600 calories I think. Last week I was 146. Today I'm 139. I have no appetite, but been exercising. It's weird, I want my appetite back!! I don't like this...

Hey Tom!! good to see your healing up quickly! And wow, that up and down weight was incredible, I don't think I've seen such a change like that so fast. WOW! I have to agree with everyone else, that you are so lucky to have met up with Bruce and Beth, how fun is that!! I will make a note that I have been in about 5 diary's today, and just about everyone has been blasted with a huge work load, and one by one everyone seems to be taking time off from WLF, which is GOOD! Maybe September will be a calmer time for everyone. I probably won't have much time myself the next few weeks to pop in, but I'll do my best. We have home improvements and other issues to take care of, but all is good. Well, I better get going and get busy. I hope you have a wonderful day today!! Take Care
Kim

Nice going Tom, you are gonna look pretty darned buff when the extra layer of fat comes off those abs :)
Oh and i *LOVE* the bike! thats one comfy nice looking bike! I want one! :D

I know I cycle a lot, but one thing I don't want to do is end up looking like that guy who was kicked out of the Tour de France, Michael Rasmussen. Wow, that guy looks like a sad example of what happens when you don't have a balanced exercise program. Gross!

Cyclists aim to loose as much fat as possible to be light. They dont try for muscles (normally...) most hard core cyclists look similar purely because it burns so much fat and they dont need very much muscle. They eat primarily carbs all the time.
Me on the other hand eats protein most of the time and lifts weights and cant get up a hill to save myself lol. Ill never win any uphill races i tell ya! Im in it for recreation though (like you) and a bit of weight loss. I enjoy it, and i love the people who do it also.
The groups i hang out with are about 50/50 hard core racers and social riders. I generally hang out with the social bunch :)

Keep up the good work though - you are looking seriously buff compared to earlier pic. Though i suspect like me you will never get down to a good 'weight' but go for the clothes size/body fat % :)

Val, so sorry about the BF -- I know that's hard to go through. I guess the wily Scale Gods took the pounds from you and gave them to me, LOL.

Hi Kim. I swear, it's worse being Tom than dealing with TOM! :D

Guess you're not going to have time to do my garden, eh?

It looks even better now. I got a fairing installed on it, and it's a blast. No more bugs in the face, and I think it's added 3 to 5 mph to my speed.

I wish I had someone to ride with. The biking groups around here seem pretty hard core, and I'm only averaging around 16 mph on my rides. A lot of the groups don't like bents, because they want the peloton effect, and I don't create a draft.

You're right -- I have no intention of getting to my "ideal" weight on the charts, which is 165. Considering I have 168 pounds of lean mass, that would be an absurd weight to get to.

Thanks for writing!

Weight 222.8 - Well, I gained 6 pounds in 4 days, and now I've lost 6 pounds in 4 days. A good example of what is called "statistical noise." If you weigh yourself every day, as I do, you have to get used to that, even though it shakes you up from time to time.

Pushed myself a bit harder than usual yesterday on the biking, and went 28.2 miles in an hour and 40 minutes, which came out to an average of 16.9 mph. That's about the best I've done so far. On one stretch, I was even going 42 mph, and the hills keep getting better.

Lots of work, as usual, today, so I may not be here much.

Glad to hear the weight number evened out, Tom....I hate that part of this...seeing it spike at times. :( Hope you have a productive day.

Hi Tom. It's good to know that it's only work keeping you off the forum. At least it's something that can go away again later with no residual downside. I hope you're enjoying the work. Are you putting together another photography show? I'm thinking I have missed some info, somewhere along the way here. (Probably while I was drowning under my own commitments some time). Anyway, I'm glad to hear that your back's about healed and all is well. Your scales.... well they're weird!! I'm glad you've come to terms with them!!

Hi, Felici. Yes, I had a show opening last Saturday. It's a show of . If you're in San Diego, I'll give you a personal tour, LOL.

I think my scale is OK; it's my body that's weird! :D

Tom,
Those are great pictures. You do wonderful work. Good luck on the scale, it is always fun to figure those things out. Just curious, what is the biggest variance you have had in a day?

Enjoy your day!

Hey! Me too, lost 7 lbs in a week, gained 3 lbs in one day. Stat noise!! Bodies ARE weird

Thanks for the hugs in my diary! :hug2: I'm feeling happy today, in a way.

Okay I have to say my favorites are Blue Mountain and Sandscapes 12 I believe that was it. Those are amazing, I love art BIG TIME! I'm very creative myself and actual draw real well free hand, but have not created anything in years. I envy your work, how pretty Tom!! I'm so happy to see your back down in the low 220's thank goodness! PHEW!!! That would have put me over the edge and fast, but I'm a girl and well emotional is our game right? LOL LOL I still want to come out there and garden for you, OH that would be wonderful! You just never know, we have been traveling a lot lately, so it's still not out of the realm of possibility. Well, I better get going, I have so much work still to be done!!! Have a great rest of your day!
Kim
