Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Tom,
Those are great pictures. You do wonderful work. Good luck on the scale, it is always fun to figure those things out. Just curious, what is the biggest variance you have had in a day?

Thanks, David.
Biggest variance in one day = 4 pounds.

Hey! Me too, lost 7 lbs in a week, gained 3 lbs in one day. Stat noise!! Bodies ARE weird

Thanks for the hugs in my diary! I'm feeling happy today, in a way.

Glad you're doing better, Val. Soon enough I bet you'll find the guy of your dreams.

Okay I have to say my favorites are Blue Mountain and Sandscapes 12 I believe that was it. Those are amazing, I love art BIG TIME! I'm very creative myself and actual draw real well free hand, but have not created anything in years. I envy your work, how pretty Tom!! I'm so happy to see your back down in the low 220's thank goodness! PHEW!!! That would have put me over the edge and fast, but I'm a girl and well emotional is our game right? LOL LOL I still want to come out there and garden for you, OH that would be wonderful! You just never know, we have been traveling a lot lately, so it's still not out of the realm of possibility. Well, I better get going, I have so much work still to be done!!! Have a great rest of your day!
Kim

Thanks, Kim. I hope one day you have a chance to get back to your drawing. It's great to have a creative outlet, but so hard when you're overwhelmed with work.

Can't wait until you can come out and straighten out my garden for me!

Weight today: 222.4 lbs., back to where I was 9 days ago.

I think I'll take a day off from biking. My rides this week:
Monday: 32.9 miles, 1,316 cal.
Tuesday: 14.9 miles, 745 cal.
Wednesday: 28.2 miles, 1,410 cal.
Thursday: 34.0 miles, 1,700 cal.

My legs need a rest!

I'm experimenting with not counting calories for a while, If I just maintain my diet and keep up the exercise, the pounds should keep coming off. If that doesn't work, I'll return to the FitDay routine.

Tom I loved looking at the portfolio. I found the images beautiful and evocative and deeply relaxing. Thank you so much for linking us to it.

If I happen to arrive in San Diego shortly I will certainly try to meet up!! :D

You have had a lot of practice at eating with the numbers and I'm sure you will be able to eat the same sort of types and amounts of food and keep losing.

If you are working on another portfolio I can imagine it could be totally absorbing - in a good way. I hope it's all going smoothly.

Hey Tom, I didn't know you were so artistic. Really cool stuff I have to say. I think having an artistic outlet is a necessity and its something a lot of Americans don't have.

Thanks, Felici. See below about "keep losing," LOL.
Once I'm done with this big project at work, I hope to be able to start on a new portfolio. Unfortunately, this has kept me very occupied for months now.

Thanks, Cannon. My wife uses a lot of my photos in her 3rd grade class. She asks the kids to imagine what they are, and they come up with some wild and funny explanations.

I love the photography TomO . Hope you are well!

Thanks Blancita

Weight: 224.6 lbs.In essence, this is Round 7, Day 30. Yes I haven't lost a pound in over 30 days now. I've gone down 4 lbs from where I'm at now, and gone up 4 lbs., but always returned to the 224 neighborhood.

My eating hasn't really increased, and my exercise certainly hasn't decreased. I think it's just one of those Rounds where I land a punch on the Scale Gods, then they land one, then I, then they, etc. etc. Long and exhausting and tedious.

Meanwhile, I just passed the 1,000 mile mark on my bike this morning. Yesterday I went back to weight training (upper body), so I gave my legs a rest. This morning I pushed it a bit, and did 34 miles in about 1 hr 45 min, averaging 18.5 mph. I've started riding in the mornings, because traffic is better, and it's much cooler.

Well, back to work. . .

Hello Tom,
I hope you reach the deadline for your project at work. I bet you were happy to start with the weights again. I am glad that you are liking your bike so much. Have a great day!

David

Oh Tom, I know all to well about those dreaded Plateaus, I HATE THEM!! but, your still doing everything you need to, so we know eventually it will start coming down again. I've learned a LOT of patience in my weight loss venture that's for sure!!! It's good to hear your getting all your work caught up, I know deadlines can be a big pain in the butt!! Oh yeah, before I forget, great job on the bike ride, your doing so good on that now. :jump:
Kim

AH MAN!!!
I was really thrilled when I saw 221.7 or whatever it was for a few days. But I feel you, this is temporary and the scale gods will aquiesce. Congrats for the 10000 miles! Have a decent time at work!

Thanks, Felici. See below about "keep losing," LOL.

Certainly keep eating what's been working and "keep losing" as you have been, was what I was thinking of. Far be it from me to offer any challenge to the scale gods, even in my own mind, let alone in your diary, where I'm sure they are always close by. And surely the battle this month has been exceptional value for the ticket price!

I think I got your "new portfolio" and "project" muddled up! I temporarily envisioned something more delightful than your reality I think. It's good to hear that you are making progress where you need to.

Congratulations on the 1000 miles on your bike! That's quite a lot of hours too! I guess that's an indication that you are enjoying your steady state cardio a lot more these days. :)

Thanks, Kim. I know I'll eventually get there. As you say, patience is the name of the game.

Thanks, Val. However, it's 1,000 miles, not 10,000, LOL. If I did that many miles in 7 weeks, I'd look just like that Rasmussen fellow! :D

Yes, I do love doing my cardio outdoors. But I actually enjoyed my indoor HIIT/Interval sessions too, and sometimes even do them instead of biking. It's nice to have variety.

Weight: 223.8 - Slight improvement today, at least. I ate pretty well yesterday. Marlene made some nice salmon, brown rice and asparagus for dinner. My bike ride expended around 1,500 calories, so I'm pretty sure I ended the day with around a 500 calorie deficit.

So far, it's been an interesting experience to just count calories "in my head." I pretty much know the calorie content of everything I eat now, and I have a good sense of whether I'm in a deficit or a surplus.

I'll see at the end of this month. If I'm still at 224, then it's back to the FitDay routine for me. If I manage to get down to 222 or thereabouts, then I'll keep doing this.

Today is weights day - lower body. Steve recommended I do the leg press instead of squats, along with some leg curls. So I'll develop a routine around those, with some calf raises added in.

Variety is important. I know I need to add more back into what I do, and I think I prefer HIIT/Intervals indoors because of the concentration it takes for me - though I guess you could make up a pattern you could use with the bike or any other cardio if you wanted.

Your dinner sounds delicious!! :)

I've also decided to give the calorie counting a rest. It didn't really seem to equal my weight outcome anymore like it used to when I lost the first 25 lbs and it gets tedious after months of doing it. I'll go back to it if I can't monitor myself well enough without it.

Felici & Blancita - thanks for visiting.

Weight: 222.6 - Well, it's going in the right direction again, at least.

Yesterday I did my lower body weight traiining. The session took around 25 minutes and only burned 135 calories, so this morning I pushed it a bit harder on my bike ride. I just missed my goal of averaging 20 mph for the first hour - 19.9 mph. I would have made it, but I hit a hill in the last 30 seconds, and that ended the chance. I ended up with 33.9 miles total, in 1:52, giving me an average speed of 18.2 mph and expending 1,619 calories.

Tom,
Good morning, congrats on the scale going the right way. Sounds like you are really enjoying your bike, that is great. Have a good day.

David

This interests me as my loss has stalled after the first twenty pounds and I have become slack about fitday. Well I'm going to give another honest effort for the rest of the month and log my calories each day but this quote shows me that sometimes routines need to be shaken up or something along the way.

But I don't get the first line"it didn't reallyseem to equal my weight outcome anymore" what does that mean?

David, Steve, and Felici -- thanks for dropping by.
Kelly, the most dangerous thing that happens when you stop counting calories is that it's very easy to lie to yourself. Almost without thinking you can add a hundred calories here and a hundred calories there, until you're not even at maintenance. It's also easy to slack off on your exercise routine, compounding the problem.

I feel confident about not counting calories exactly for a while, simply because I have a pretty solid routine as far as nutrition goes, and if anything, I'm exercising more than I ever have, to the tune of around 5,000 to 6,000 calories a week.

But even with all that, if I find myself still in Round 7 by the end of the month, I'll go back to FitDay.
