Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Afternoon! I was in the gym today!!! Looking forward to a beautiful day! (everyone in my house is sleeping, hee hee) Have a great one!
Hi Val! We're in the middle of June Gloom here, but that's OK, because I did about 3 hours of gardening. Last night, I couldn't sleep, so I did all my "cheat sheets" for my new workout program. Can't wait to start it!

I only wish I could find the motivation for working out that I used to have. You're motivation (and Val's) on the other hand is truly remarkable! Good for you TomO :)

Hi Blancita. Motivation's a tough thing. Vanity never really motivated me that much. But fear -- fear is a great motivator!

Weight: 232.6 - Round 5, Day 7

Yep, I've definitely started Round 5.This one may last a bit longer than the previous 4, since I'm taking a week off and just eating at maintenance during that week.

Food yesterday came in at 2,368 calories
Fat: 72 gm, 27%; 20 gm sat, 8%
Carbs: 221 gm, 34%; 34 gm fiber
Protein 201 gm, 35%
Alcohol: 5 gm, 2%

Holy moly, where did all that protein come from? Let's see, I had 11 ozs. of cod, for 73 gm., shrimp salad for lunch for 24 gm., and salmon for breakfast for another 74 gm. Yesterday was definitely fish day! With my NARM of 2365 calories, plus another 320 calories from gardening for 2 1/2 hours, I ended the day with a 317 calorie deficit, and 1,664 calories accumulated deficit in this Round.

My back is AOK! :)

I really, really, feel like going to the gym, but I'm going to be good and hold off until Friday. I've got all my materials laid out, and I'm ready to go.

Hey, just wanted to say that I'm glad your back is feeling better :) I'm glad you're still going to hold off though, that's a very smart thing to do. I hope that when you do go back to the gym your back will remain feeling good, just take it easy at first and see how it goes.

Hey Tom, looks like you had a great week-end - not to mention a great month!...is it my imagination or are your plateus getting shorter in duration? At any rate, glad this one's behind you and here's hoping it's the last one for a long, long time. Also glad your back is feeling better.

Hey...since it's June, does that mean pics of you working out are coming next month????? I've got a spot reserved for you on my "Mucho Macho Men of WLF" calendar. Dress code: shorts or sweats optional, wife beater t-shirt required:rotflmao:

Hi, Pinky. Thanks for dropping by.

Thanks Risty. I'm planning to take it pretty easy the first week. It's nice to feel like an almost-sixty-year-old again!

Hey, Cym. Yes, Round 4 was a bit shorter. I no longer believe I can lose weight any other way than having plateaus -- that's why I call them "Rounds" now. I figure getting to my target weight will be close to a 12 round title fight, and I'm now in Round 5.

Yes, the pics will come in July. Marlene is going to come into the gym on 3 different days to take pics of me doing my weight training as well as my cardio. I only work out in tank tops and shorts, so you'll see me in all my glory, LOL.

Mucho Macho Men of WLF -- you crack me up. :D

Holy crap man, awesome protein intake!!!

I am glad the back is feeling better.

Thanks, Adam. That's what fish 3 times a day will do for you!

Hey Tom your diary cheered me up the last few pages! You just keep going strong. Hey I have had a couple mornings waking up and wanting to get on my bike first thing. Now that's something. Thanks for stopping by. Oh yeah, I love your avatar.

Thanks, Kelly. I'm glad you're enjoying your bike so much -- great for mind and body. I'll make a new avatar after I get my pics next month -- if any of them turn out.

Tom, I'm really happy to hear that your back has healed.

Good job keeping those calories even while you wait out this rest time. I hope you are finding other ways to make those endorphins keep happening!

Tom, I'm really glad your back is healing so well. A few extra days outside the gym is probably a good idea. I think you should ask Wishes what's coming when your deliver the knock out on Round 15. Surely we can up the ante beyond the skimpy bikini???? Hey, maybe we should put you in the Skimpy Bikini! I like it, I like it a lot!

Felici thanks, but I'm in a serious endorphin shortage! I figure I can wait until Friday, but not much longer!

JLynne - thanks for the well wishes. Me wearing a skimpy bikini? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL We have laws against that in Southern California. That sort of thing would depopulate the state and cause some serious revenue shortfalls. I might even end up in Gitmo as a new type of terrorist suspect. :)

Weight: 234.0 :( :( :(

OK, I know I've been slacking off on the incense lately. The hibachi grill where I prepare the burnt chicken wing offering to GOM has spider webs in it. I called an end to Round 4 after only 15 days.

But is this any reason for such swift and terrible retribution from the scale gods and GOM? I mean, it's not like I've been eating Twinkies for the past week, for GOM's sake! I've been eating at maintenance. OK, lst night I had 2 margaritas, and on Friday I had a double scotch. But these are not capital crimes, you guys!

So today I'm passing out a flyer to the neighbors not to call the fire department if the see an unusual amount of smoke emanating from my bathroom vents. I figure today I'll just take the entire 500 pack of incense from Costco and light it up all at once. Maybe I'll get the scale gods so high they'll forget to check in tomorrow. And as for GOM, well, I've got a 100-pack of wings in the fridge that has her name on it.

Food yesterday was at 2,419 calories:
104 gm fat, 38%; 42 gm saturated, 15% (spinache quiche & buffalo burger)
Carbs: 232 gm, 36%; 32 gm fiber
Protein: 109 gm, 18% (low, I know)
Alcohol: 24gm, 7%

That gave me a surplus of 19 lousy fricken calories, and for that, I'm rewarded with a 2 pound gain. If the scale gods and GOM didn't have such power, I'd really be swearing at them now.

OK, I'm going to crawl back into my cave now.

God, I can't wait to go back to the gym!

Don't fret weight this week. I know that's easier said than done, but still.....

I'm trying, I'm trying . . . I know when I get back into my routine, things will get better.

I don't think I could ever lose weight without exercising though. I mean physiologically, I could. But psychologically, it would be very, very hard. Inevitably you have days like today, where you go up a couple of pounds from water retention or whatever. But when that happens and I go to the gym, and have a really hard workout, it gets me back in the psychological "groove" so to speak. When I don't go to the gym, I tend to just sit and stew about it -- it's much harder to accept the "noise" of daily weighings.

I doubt all that makes any sense at all to anyone but me though! :)

Okay...repeat after me....WATER WEIGHT..... :) Has to be, right? That always seems to be the culprit for me when my weight goes up like that.

You're doing great! Super-great! Just drink more water today and see if that helps.

Well, actually that's all it could be -- because there's no way eating 2,400 calories a day that I'm going to gain 2 pounds!

Or, like I originally surmised, it's just the scale gods and GOM f&#^#^ing with my head! :drooling:
