Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Good job on avoiding those donuts! Even though it was your impatience that gave you that extra little kick you still avoided it. If I want something so badly I'd definately wait it out, so you're stronger than you think ;)

Hey there Tom! Thanks so much for checking up on me :). Without my having to review several pages of your very swiftly moving diary, what's going on with the plateau/accumulated calorie deficit? Sure hoping things are going better for you. What Cym said about your time being worth more than those nasty (though surely delectable) doughnuts was really interesting and quite true. Good for you, and for once, be thankful for long lines. P.S. Can you believe that Ashcroft, of all people, wouldnt even go as far as the B/C dictatorship?

Occasionally when working out, especially on the eplitical trainer/thread mill, I pull out flash cards, to study.

Hmmph, maybe I should reconsider doing this (i think its a good use of time, heh)

Good job on the donut place! My uncle offered me a Klondike bar yesterday (not sure how many calories, I had, but i already hit my 1800 for the day), and I politely turned him down. He was like "comon adam, just one little ice bar", and I told him its the little things that add up.

Keep it up, at the end of the year, I am sure we'll see some huge improvements.

Didn't know impatience is a virtue.... ha.:)
Good for you Tom!

I read somewhere to wait for abt 10min for the craving to go away. Does work sometimes for me hahah.

Thanks, Risty. It wasn't just impatience. I'm actually a bit embarrassed waiting in line to get a donut. :)

Hey Blancita, glad you're back in circulation here. I think Plateau #3 is vanquished, and I'm on to Plateau #4. I dropped all the way to 231.2 a couple of days ago, but now I'm back up to 234.0. However, that's my goal for the month, so I'm OK.

When someone like John Ashcroft is the guardian of the Constitution, then we know we are in REAL trouble. These guys are complete criminals.

Now that you know your ticker is OK, you can start doing some heavy interval training. I guarantee you, you won't be able to read your flash cards then! :)

You're right about the little things. That's why I find FitDay so useful. The little things no longer slip between the floor boards. Like my 5 glasses of wine tonight. . . :(

Didn't know impatience is a virtue.... ha.

I read that too, but some of my cravings last for hours. UGH!

Weight: 233.8 - in line with yesterday's supposition about the fickle nature of the scale gods.

Food yesterday came in at 2,991 calories, in essense a mini-cheat day
Fat: 104 gm, 31%; saturated 27 gm, 8%
Carbs: 231 gm, 27%; fiber 44 gm
Protein: 211 gm, 28%
Alcohol: 48 gm, 11%

With a NARM of 2,333 calories, plus around 300 calories from my walk yesterday, I came in with a small surplus (1st one in 5 days) of 358 calories, with a month to date deficit of 7,696 calories.

Yep, 48 gm of alcohol. First, an old friend of mine came over for dinner, and I had a couple of glasses of wine. Then I went to a photography reception and had about 3 more. BUT, I didn't pig out at the snack table the way I used to. I had exactly 3 pita chips and 1 carrot.

My friend who came over is so skinny, I fear for his health. He ate more for dinner than I did, though. I guess he's one of those people with a metabolism that won't let him retain any weight at all. When I see him, I'm actually thankful to have the metabolism I do.

I wonder what's going to happen to us when we do reach our target weight? Will we all stay on WLF? I wonder how many of us will keep with our new lifestyle. It would make an interesting study. I view WLF as part of my change, an important ingredient in not just getting to my target but staying there.

That is an interesting question. Personally I believe successful maintenance and successful weight loss are just flip sides of the same coin. Although I was already about 99% of weight loss goal before joining, I look at WLF as being a big part of my long term maintenance goal. I can honestly say that every single day I gain something helpful that moves me just a little bit closer to realizing that goal - sometimes it's just the daily accountability of entering my food intake in a public forum, sometimes it's a piece of relevant information I get from reading general posts or individual diaries, sometimes it's the personal insight into "me" I get from my daily navel gazing. Whatever the reason, I have no doubt that had I just gone "whoohoo, weight loss achieved" and ridden off into the proverbial sunset I would have already been on the road to regaining a pound or two at this point.

I'm looking forward to reading your journal once you reach your goal (inevitable) and begin to maintain.:jump:

Hi Tom!

Donuts...mmmm I love em, but its been a long time since I have had one. My youngest son had dinner with us last night and said, "hey Mom, you know you have a Krispy Kreme place over here?" Oh great...thanks for reminding me...LOL!

Hi Beth. You know, I never really cared for Krispy Kreme that much. Compared to the VG Donuts in Encinitas, they're crap. Actually, the Krispy Kreme here in Encinitas went out of business. Guess they couldn't compete with the local places, which are much better.

I better stop talking about donuts, though -- it's starting to get my craving going again

no no no no and no - if you're gonna get a donut at least make it count :) just any donut won't do.. and what's this getting in your car - walk towards the donut son.. walk towards it :) you'll get that sense of accomplishment with your donut :)

Considering VG Donuts is around 5 miles from here, and that would be a 10 mile round trip, I could even have one of their super delicious bear claws. MMMMM.
Ahhh, forget it -- laziness saves me once again.

I am ignoring all the above posts as I REFUSE to even think about donuts this morning.....so Tom, let's make a deal - if I'm still maintaining in 14 months you have to keep a maintainance journal for the next 12 months.:rotflmao:

Tom your diary about donuts is sounding like my diary a few weeks ago except mine was about blizzards! LOL That topic lasted quite a while, like these donuts... lol. I wish I could just taste them because you make them sound so good. Thank goodness we don't have one of those here!

About the whole, will people stay on here once they reach their goals thing... I think I'd stay on here. I've met so many nice people and would love to keep talking to them. Besides it would help in keeping your goal weight and not reverting back to your old self. The last thing I would want is to gain the weight back and I think this would still help in preventing that from happening as much as it helps for losing the weight in the first place. Besides I'd also stay on here to offer support to the new people on the site :)

OK, that's a deal!

Eavesdropping on maintenance conversation. The friendships here will keep us coming back, too.

That's certainly true, at least for me.
