Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Thanks buddy!!!

I was wondering why this plateau ended 10 days early! Well, I seem to have a surplus of incense on my hands, so I'll send it your way. A lot of people don't know this, but the incense burned to end one plateau can't be used for the next one; you have to start over. So I'm burning it all in your name, pal. I bet yours will go away in a day or two.

What comes around goes around I guess! I am back on track and the potential plateau has now been blown away! I am now down again, likely thanks to your efforts!!! I am currently sitting at an amazing 244 pounds!!! A pound lower even than my best hopes for this week! And its only wednesday! I think this is going to be a 4 pound week to get me right back 100% on schedule for my birthday weighin!! What a fabulous feeling when it all starts coming together.

Next round of incense is on me!!

LOL, to hell with the beer and franks diet. We need to write a book on the Scale Gods and GOM Diet. We could even package it with some of that incense from China, and sell the whole package for $89.95 a copy.

Cha-Ching!!!

Ok, not real words, but you get the drift!!

However you break it down that is an incredibly intense workout and worthy offering to the scale gods. I expect that is the sort of thing that left you with an incense surplus. :)

That must be some powerful incense Sirant has been burning for me over in China:

Weight: 231.2! Yes, Plateau #3 is not just down, but out for the count. :jump: :jump: :jump:

Food yesterday came to 2,377 calories:
Fat: 97 gm, 36%; saturated 23 gm, 9%
Carbs: 209 gm, 33%; 36 gm fiber
Protein: 156 gm, 26%
Alcohol: 11 gm, 3%

With a NARM of 2,377 calories, and 1,025 from my interval training yesterday, I ended the day with a deficit of 987 calories, and a month to date deficit of 7,418 calories.

I'm just blown away with my progress so far this month. Of course, the scale gods are just playing with me today, and the weight will go back up, but not more than a couple of pounds. That will still put me well ahead of my goal for the month of 234.0.

Speaking of body image, I was making my nightly trip to the grocery store after my workout. In the past, I would always look around and end up feeling like just about the ugliest person there, the fattest, the most out of shape. Yesterday I was doing that, but I realized that I was far from the fattest one there; in fact I was starting to look pretty darned good compared to all the other people there. Not that I still don't have a LONG way to go, but is was a nice feeling.

Felici, I have talked it over with Sirant, and we are going to offer the entire $89.95 package to WLF members for the unbelievably low price of $22.87. Not only that, but we'll include a special Guginzu Knife. Not only that, but we'll include a used hibachi grill, ideal for making burnt offerings of chicken wings to GOM.

Wishes -- see above! The ultimate plateau buster!

My kids are mortified that I buy all my clothes at Costco, but it's a good thing. I have a feeling I'm going to go through quite a few of them by the time I reach my goal. It's one thing to give away a $100 pair of slacks. But a $15 pair of cargo pants you got on sale - not so hard. Good thing I work at home, generally in shorts and a tee shirt. :)

LOL!!! I'm so glad to hear about 132.6, though--and also that strength training has made you feel like a teenager! DO you ever get "the twitch" in your muscles (especially legs) like I do when you finish a hard session, before bed? Just curious!

Also, I like Steve's advice about heavy weights, low reps--and have been following it. But what do you think about light weights lots of reps? You can send a link if this has been discussed before.

Love, Valerie

Twitch -- you know the other day, after some really heavy interval training, I told Marlene to look at my leg. It was like a scene out of "Alien". From my calf to my quads, you could see twitches every second or so, all over the place. Really weird!

Light weights, lots of reps -- OK, if muscle endurance is your thing. I'm not sure how useful it is. In a deficit, I would think it would be counter-productive though. After all, the idea in this stage is to initiate the muscle repair process, and if you do low weights, you never really cause any muscle damage.

I have read about body builders, who are NOT cutting, who use high reps for training. So there may be some virtue in it for that phase. That's something I know nothing about though, because I've never been in that phase. But I hope to be there, on my 60th birthday.

Yes, I have experienced muscle spasms like that--maybe not to that extent, but it is very weird!! Stupid question: is "cutting" slimming up? And training in that case you mentioned--for fitness?

Yes, cutting = caloric deficit.

training: I'm training for the senile olympics. You can win a medal, even if you forget where the finish line is. :rotflmao:

Congratulations on the weight loss, Tom. I'm glad you hadn't sent that incense on prematurely.

Thanks, Felici. Sirant's sending me a new supply for Plateau #4, anyway. :)

Today's Workout: Weights "B"
Time: 61 minutes
Calories: 696

View attachment 3456

Notes: This was the last day of my 18 day regimen, and I'm starting to feel the fatigue a bit. Still, I was able to increase my squats by 5 lbs., up to 210 lbs. Started to get a bit shaky on the last rep of the last set, though.

Incline db presses are still difficult at 130 lbs. - able to complete all 5 sets, but just barely.

Deadlift went up 5 lbs. today, to 205 lbs. I did pretty well at that weight; will be able to increase to 210 lbs. next time.

Chinups at 1 level less, to 14, so that's a nice improvement, but still a LONG way from an unassisted chinup.

Increased the calf raises by 15 lbs., to 360 lbs. Starting to get a bit more difficult now.

All in all, a pretty good workout, but I am REALLY ready for my off day tomorrow!
