Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Afternoon Tom!! Thanks for the sweet comment you put in my diary. I try to be the best mom I can be and that's all. It's funny you were all talking about eating fast, my mom used to say I inhale my food, which she was right, we would always tease her about eating like a snail, but now I wish I would have done the same thing. You mentioned eating berries and nuts for a snack, do you buy them frozen??? I love fresh fruit, but I hate running to the store every few days to make sure everything stays that way. It's like that with my salads, I feel like I'm constantly going to the store for lettuce, because that goes bad so fast. I just hope our cucumbers and tomatoes do well this year. So far so good, but you just never know.
Kim

Kim, usually I eat fresh fruit. But Costco started selling these bags of dried blueberries, and I like them a lot. That with nuts makes a great nutritious snack.

You know I think I saw those at Sam's club today, I ALMOST grabbed the bag, but we were already at our limit and I didn't want to bust the bank completely. We always over spend when we go to Sam's. My hubby did buy me some fresh large shrimp they had on display there, he HATES them, but always seems to buy them for me anyways. It's so funny!! He hates Strawberries too, but he grows them every year just for me. What did I do to deserve him, I have no idea. LOL LOL  I did buy about 8 cans of tuna, so I can start taking those to work with me. I can eat that right out of the can. I hope it doesn't stink up the office to bad, some people there have sensitive noses and makes comments at times. GO FIGURE!! well, I can shut my office door, but I still doubt it will help, OH WELL,they will have to deal with it I guess, or buy some spray. LOL LOL:D

Workout log - 5/5/2007

Had a good Cardio Coach workout today - CC Vol. 5
60 minutes, 1000 calories

I figured out an easier way to keep track of all this by just attaching an image of the workout.

I put it in an Excel spreadsheet. I have my max hr as a named cell. That way, when I plug in the hr's from the latest workout, it automatically calculates the percentage of max hr for me.

Valerie, the lamb was delicious. But the worst part about getting really hungry for me is that I wolf down the food, never giving my stomach time to send the signal to my brain that I'm full. Then, when the signal finally does get there, I feel so full I can hardly move -- UGGHH!

Oh man does that sound familiar to me :O
Now when i do that - i do it with veges. I fill up on veges, use the meat for the taste. saves a lot of guilt - unfortunatly not the sore tummy :O

I haven't been very successful slowing down my eating. It's just too ingrained in me, I guess. What has worked for me is what you do -- lots of snacking, especially before dinner. I'll either have a protein shake an hour before, or a little bowl of dried blueberries and nuts. Then I go into the meal not nearly as hungry.

I find that helps too. Loving the new AV :)

Hey Tom, quick question for ya....

You keep some kick butt records of what you are doing man, I am really impressed. I thought I was doing so well with Fitday...... Anywho, I am wondering how you monitor your heartbeat while exercising... Is it on the machine you are using or do you have a wristwatch model? Just curious what you think of them since you seem to put them to good use either way.

I am considering buying a wristwatch model myself, specifically for running since they have some neat ones now that tell you speed distance and time much more accurately due to GPS signaling. I have only seen one HR monitor watch here period and it was well over $1000US and the salesperson didn't know a thing about it. So I looked online and there are some back home for much cheaper with very similar options and features. Could attempt to have one shipped I suppose or perhaps wait till October when I come to Canada for a visit.....

Just curious your take and which style you are using now.

Thanks in advance buddy!

1000 cals in 60 mins is good going... if I burn 1000 (and I struggle to do so) it takes me more like 80 mins!

Anyway keep it up. :)

Weight: 237.4 - What a bummer! Scale Gods, GOM -- Why has thou forsaken me? I've been humble, I've been contrite, I've burnt your damned incense and offered your damned burnt wings. Is this GOWR (goddess of water retention) switching sides and punishing ME. ARRGGHHH!

OK, I ate a bit too much yesterday, but still had a deficit of 167 calories:
Calories: 3189
Fat: 87 gm, 24%; 26 gm saturated, 7%
Carbs: 425 gm, 50%; fiber 44 gm
Protein: 183 gm, 23%
Alcohol: 10 gm, 2%

Yeah, that's a lot, but my NARM came to 2,356 calories and my cardio got rid of 1,000 calories, so that made up for it.

Three pounds up since Friday - this puts me back to the weight I was at on April 12, meaning I've been on a plateau for 25 days now.

I know what's going on -- Friday was the "plateau tease," the weight where I'll go when I finally get enough momentum to break the plateau.

Momentum, let's see now. . . accumulated deficit of 9.572 calories since April 12. What did it take in the past to bust the plateau? 12,000 calories, so I'm not there yet, and probably won't be there for another 10 days. Crap.

See, Wishes, that's what I should have done. I'm still learning how to do this stuff.

LOL, I am a data FREAK. Actually, when I got my MBA about 18 years ago, statistics was may favorite class of all. A lot of it had to do with the professor, but it really opened my eyes. Not that what I'm doing here is good statistics, mind you, because it really isn't -- but it makes me feel good psychologically.

I use a Polar F6, which I got on amazon.com for about $89. I bought a cheaper Polar earlier, but it only had the heart beat. Then I got curious about the machine readings for calories, and kept reading they were way off. Well you know me, inaccuracy just won't do. So I sprang for the F6, which keeps track of your calories, too. I also wanted that for my weight training sessions anyway, because I had no idea what I was really burning.

I've been very happy with the F6. It also has something in it that cancels out the signals from other HR monitors, so they don't screw with yours -- very important in gyms over here; probably totally irrelevant over there.

As you may have noticed above, you put some weight back on, and so did I. I thought you were burning some of that fine Chinese incense to the scale gods in my name, too. You weren't reneging on your promise were you, hogging it all for yourself? :)

Sprite, there aren't many advantages to weighing as much as I do, but that is certainly one of them. Of course, going at the intensity I do helps too!

Hey TomO, is that a new pic? You look hot! LOL I feel for you on the plateau. I'm at a 12,600 calorie deficit as of today but still no movement this morning. Once you hit 12,000, maybe you should consider following your brilliant advice of taking a break on the exercise and maybe maintaining on the cals or keeping your deficit down to 1000 or so for a week and see what happens. What deficit are you up to as of today?

Hi Blancita, glad you like the pic -- it was from a visit with my son at the end of March.

It's too early for my planned break -- I had my last one the end of March, and the next one is planned for June something. But I typically don't break through these until I reach an accumulated deficit of 12,000 calories. Right now, I'm only at 9,500 calories, so I have another 7 to 10 days to go.

I've defeated two plateaus before; I'm confident I'll beat this one too. It'll just take some patience.

When you hit your deficit of 12,000 when you're having your plateau, do you immediately drop the 3.4 accumulated calories? Or just one and you have this continuous deficit that never really catches up?

No, it actually catches up. I'll lose 2 or 3 pounds in a single week, and it will stay off. And in each plateau, there's a "tease" day or two, where I get down to the weight where I'll be after breaking through, and then it pops right back to where it was.

WOW Tom that avatar is hot!! You have a gorgeous smile!! I've been following your instruction and getting on the scale each morning, and since my 2lbs off on Friday morning, nothing!! It's still the same, and I didn't eat jack yesterday. Just a little eggs and wheat toast in the morning and cream of wheat in the evening. Both equaling about 600-700 calories total for the day and I even busted my butt outside doing all that damn yard work. See this is what frustrates me. But we are all in the same boat, so I'm not going to complain a bit!! I will say with all the hard work and effort you put in, I would be pissed, and on that note I think I'll go burn some incense for you and me and offer a good indian dance as I did before. Maybe that will please those gods just a bit. WISH ME LUCK! LOL :D
