Finally serious about losing weight - with an important deadline.

Oh... and yeah, I was too sore AND too tired to get up this morning for the gym. Thankfully my work (serving/bartending) involves a lot of walking and the plates are HEAVY. In some ways, I fear what will happen when I finally get a desk job. Yikes! But, that'll be in about a year and after I have a routine schedule at the gym. :)

This weekend will be interesting. Ryan and I might go see that Bodies Exhibit where they have actual bodies and you can see everything preserved.
Sunday my brother is having a bbq at his house and was asking me to make my famous "garlic cheese bread". I told him that I don't want to even think about it, let alone make it. I might try to bring some kind of healthy veggie casserole or something instead.
Monday marks my last day of freedom before the semester starts back up at my university. I think the true struggle will be when I have classes on Monday and Wednesday that last from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. It'll be hard for me to bring food and my books since I'll most likely only have a back pack and be on my motorcycle. Hmm... we'll see how this goes!

Day 26

Here I almost went to bed without logging in my efforts for today! I told myself I would write in here every night... :)

I was exhausted this morning, and sore, and decided to sleep in a little bit before work. I got off work early and hit up the gym while I was waiting for Ryan to get home from his work.

At the gym I did:
25 min (about 5 miles) on the bike
Back strengthening
Biceps
Shoulders
Hip Abductors (both)
*I would have done more but I was pressed for time and didn't want to be too sore over the weekend

August 29th, Friday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Lunch: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Dinner: Taco salad with lots of salsa, carne asada, black beans, & some cheese (it was the real thing at a restaurant so the shell was fried) - (about 600 cal)
Late night TV snack: 100 calorie pack
Late night Drink: 1/2 Black Magic Stout (from Oggie's brewery) - (about 200 cal)

Total Calories: 1360

Thanks for stopping by! I've always *wanted* to lose weight, but I think the reality check came in when I actually tried on the bridesmaid dress. I think it was the combination of that horror and the increasing number of "bad" pictures I've been taking. I'm so tired of hiding from cameras and needing those perfectly angled shots for me to be satisfied. I just don't see what I see in the mirror in any pictures I take.

So here's another kicker about Ryan, the bf... Since I started this journey and have made him more aware of nutritional content in things, he's been doing portion controlling on everything he eats. In the time it took me to lose 9 lbs (about 3 weeks +) he's already lost 12!!!! He's 5'11" and now at 183 lbs. He didn't really even need to lose weight like I do... It's not fair!!! Here I am busting my butt at the gym, watching what I eat like a hawk, and struggling to stay on track. Him.... he just boxes up 1/2 of everything he orders and voila! So not fair. :cuss: I just want to weigh less than him and would have if he didn't lose anything. lol

Oh well... I hope that with my weight loss I can also be nice and fit by the time I have my own wedding. Ryan and I have discussed it many times and agree we need to wait until we finish school. We both graduate in the spring of '09, right before I'm a bridesmaid. Hopefully then, I'll also be engaged and excited to be in both my friend's wedding pictures and my own. :)

You are very welcome. My husband's name is Ryan and he is the same as your boyfriend. All he has to do is stop drinking soda and he loses 10 pounds. Blah. I'm with you girlie but you know what....all our work will pay off because soon we will be HPA's (Hott Pieces of Ass) :smilielol5: I have a thing with that. It's a joke me and an officer I work with have at work. I always tell him, "just wait, when I'm an HPA, I won't even acknowledge you" He laughs and everyday he comes in and says "you're getting closer" Hee Hee.

That's good you are going to wait to finish school. It's pretty stressful planning a wedding and you would be better off concentrating on school right now. Good luck to you again and nice to meet you.

Hey there,
You are doing so great in gym! Just pounding away :smash: I saw "No reservations" last week for the first time...too cute. The only this is that afterward it made me soo hungry with all the food that was in it!!! Well, keep up your hard work! You're doing amazing!

That's too funny that you have a Ryan of your own too! Now, if he's also an Aries I will promptly que the theme song to the twilight zone. lol But yea, it's not fair at all how men lose weight. It drives me up a wall!! haha

I laughed so hard when the niece threw away the truffles. I found myself wanting to just taste the dishes in the movie, but didn't find myself hungry. Maybe it's because I had dinner and was beat from the gym.

I do however, find myself watching the food channel. I've always loved the food channel since I love to cook but now I look at it through different glasses. If Paula's kitchen is on, for example, I just look in disgust with how she uses butter and "ole" (oil) for EVERYTHING! I just imagine the calories and fat content in all the foods and it really turns me off of them.

Sometimes I do start craving those decadent desserts they make... but I know I could have some, just in a small portion.

Hhaha! Yeah, I liked the part when he was trying to say goodbye and she thought that he was leaning in for a kiss, but then he says, "You're leaning on my scarf." Funny!

I used to constantly watch Food network. Good ol' Paula and her "spacherler" haha! I don't watch the network as much anymore b/c it just conjurs up waaay too many cravings for me. I've been keeping it on FIT tv and sometimes they have healthy cooking shows on that I watch. I guess I'm hoping that by having the Fit channel on constantly, with people always working out and changing their lives, it somehow seeps into my brain even when I'm not watching! haha!

Day 27

I can definitely say that my body is not used to these extensive work outs! My poor knees are sooo stiff today and hurts to walk. Damn old soccer injuries! They act up every once in a while and take a day or two for the joints to become less inflamed. Hopefully they'll be fine by Monday so I can go back to the gym and continue with my routine. :)

August 30th, Saturday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Snack: Costco samples - just had to (about 200 cal)
Lunch: Banana (100 cal)
Dinner: 1/2 CPK Sicilian Pizza - 3 slices (about 500 cal)
Late night snack: 100 calorie pack

Total Calories: 1130

Hey there!
I haven't been by in a while so I had some catching up to do reading through your entries. You are doing just amazing! I am very impressed. Keep up all the good work cuz you are definitely motivated this time. So, whatever reasons you had before that prevented you from losing weight are null & void.

Don't know what you're using for those sore knees but let me tell you, Tiger Balm is definitely the way to go! It is the most amazing thing I have ever tried. (10 million times better than Icy Hot or Bengay.)

Good luck!!!

I've never heard of Tiger Balm. For my knees I usually just give them some time and take some kind of anti-inflammatory. I'm running out of an old Rx for naproxen so I've been using ibuprofen lately. I'll definitely check out that balm! Thanks for the heads up Stacy!

Hey hon, great job on the weight loss so far and keep at it!! Its great having everyone motivating you on here. I am definitely in need of motivation lately, as I have not been doing so well on the eating front.

Day 28

Today was an evil....EVIL day. :smash:

My family got together and my brother bbq'd ribs. UGH... they were so good! The sides were really good and healthy for the most part: corn on the cob, roasted red potatoes with garlic and rosemary, grilled zucchini, garlic bread, and decadent caramel-chocolate brownies. I think it's the brownies that really did me in. I couldn't resist... it was a new recipe of my mom's. :drool5:

I tried to research the calories of everything before I even went over there today. I found that ribs are about 100 cal per rib. Yikes!! 1 large zucchini has about 50 cal, corn...about 100 cal... 1 helping of potatoes about 300 cal... *sigh* I looked up an approximate caloric value for the brownies... One 3" square brownie is about 250 cal. :ack2:

I think I just may not eat tomorrow... :leaving:

The only plus to this day of food I really shouldn't have eaten is that Ryan and I took my dogs for about a mile walk. Not the longest walk in the world, but at least it was something.

If I don't make it to the gym tomorrow (since I'll still be staying at his house until tomorrow night) I'm hoping that we can get some cardio of some kind mixed into our day. Walking....a nice afternoon delight.... something! :) :sifone:

Now for the horrific reality of glorious bbq'd food:
August 31st, Sunday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Snack (Appetizer): (about 150 cal)
Dinner: About 5-6 ribs, 1/2 cup potatoes, 1 corn on the cob, 1 slice of garlic bread, 1/2 whole grilled zucchini, and about 2 large brownies. (DON'T EVEN WANT TO KNOW cal) lol (about 1500 cal?)

Total calories: 1830 *sigh*

I'll be on the scale Tuesday... we'll see how this will effect my progress.

I had a bad weekend too!!!

Something about being in Bar Harbor Maine just says, fried seafood and lobster with butter...

We just need to pay for it this week is all... (sigh)

Oh well, S@#$ happens, we just move on is all...

And walking is always good. Either way you are doing a good job.

Day 29

Even though today ended up being a relaxing "catch up on X-files" marathon I think it went much better than yesterday... food-wise, anyway. :p

Ryan and I walked over to a local market near his house (literally about 1/2 mile walk if that). I was going to get a salad at the salad bar but it was closed due to the holiday. Bummer! Instead of a salad for lunch I settled for left over CPK... I figured that would be my big meal for the day and made sure I cut back on everything else.

I'm going to look up the schedule of classes for the gyms near me to see what I can fit in this week. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow at noon and start back at school tomorrow night. It's a 7-10pm class plus a 30 mile commute one way. The main thing I fear/dread is my Mon/Wed schedule which goes from 9:30am to 6:30pm. At least my classes are spread out over the large campus and I'll be able to get quite a bit of walking in. I also think that my other saving grace is that there is a subway on campus and maybe one other "healthy" place to get food. I'll have to fight off my temptations to go get panda express, taco bell, jodi maroni, quiznos, and carl's jr... Why does fast food taste so good and be so bad for you?! 'Tis life, I suppose. :)

September 1st, Monday
Breakfast: Non-fat yogurt and a banana (170 cal)
Lunch: Left over CPK pizza (500 cal)
Snack: 100 calorie pack
Dinner: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Late snack: 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese (100 cal)

Total Calories: 1100

I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm still at -9 lbs. :hurray:

I really wanted to lose 10 lbs by the 30 day mark and with a day to go, it may still be possible. *crosses fingers* I just need to continue on with the way I'm going and if I average 10 lbs/month I'll be where I want by the new year (way ahead of schedule). I'm definitely going to make sure I kick my own butt at the gym and complete this journey. I've longed to be healthy and fit for all of my life...

Good for you. I have the same goal, about 10 LBs a month. If I can do that I'll be sooooo happy. Great to hear your ahead of your goal date. Keep kicking butt!!

Day 30

Today I helped my mom some more over at my grandmother's house. It looks so good with the new carpet and tile finally in! We were going to install some new things but realized that we forgot to bring the drill with us. Doh! Instead we took out some old bricks from her front yard and I hauled them off to the dumpster. We left the rest of the pile for when we bring over a dolly. We got some more things at Home Depot and called it a day.

That left me enough time to make my own chicken wrap before I had to leave for class...

But since I have to be up super early tomorrow for a full day of class, I'm going to leave this entry short and sweet. :) I hope the rest of my teachers are as cool as the one I had tonight.

September 2nd, Tuesday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Lunch: Homemade Chicken-Lettuce Wrap w/ cheese & olives (about 400 cal)
Dinner: 1 rib, potatoes, 1/2 grilled zucchini (about 400 cal)
Dessert: 100 calorie pack

Total calories: 1130

Just dropping in to see how things are going. I hope you drop that pound. You've been doing very well so you shouldn't have problem doing it. Well, take care and good luck.
