ODH, M2M: Thanks!!
ml2b: thanks for not singing! LOL

Well, yesterday I kept my cals at 1800 even with going to a mexican restaurant!! Woohoo for me. Did some bike riding with my daughter. Going to some aerobics from FitTV w/Gilad (???) and with my daughter, she's jumping on the working out bandwagon too. (which is good, she needs to lose like 5lbs)

Oh, and since Friday, I lost a total of 1.5lbs. Bringing me down to 224.

Oh, and I won't be going out with my friends next weekend as I forgot (ooops) next weekend is my 1st anniversary. Whhoooopppss I thought only guys were supposed to forget that. And I have no idea what to get him as far as a paper present.

OK, I've been MIA but I'm back now! :) Just wanted to say congrats on the weight loss but mostly on the will power at that Mexican Restarurant!!!

I was searching for cookbooks and exercise stuff for my daughter, she needs to loose 4-5 lbs as well. She's at the 76th percentile for her weight and I want to get that closer to the 50th percentile. Buying shirts for her this past week or so was a bit of a challenge because of her little pot belly so hopefully we will have success. I've been apprehensive about letting her exercise with me in the past when she wanted to, but I'll let her from now on...but limit what she does. Thanks for the inspiration.

As for the paper present, I REALLY like spelin01's ideas! I like the way she thinks! :D

Hi there.....my hubby wrote me a poem on toilet paper for our first anniversary! Beautiful poem...interesting chioce of paper!:p. I gave him a coupon book, that I made with coupons for some of his favorite things. Like 1 day golfing with the guys, 1 book of his choice...I pay, etc. He loved it and still pulls it out to redeeem them.
Ideas for 2nd...cotton, he pasted cotton balls all over the house and the stuff I was using that day, then put one inside a very nice card. I gave him a pillow made from one of his grandfather's shirts that had too many holes to wear anymore.
Now...Our third is in 3 weeks and I have no ideas for leather. Got any?
Take care and hope your'e having a wonderful day:)

Actually there was little willpower involved at the Mexican Restaurant. I had some chips with fresh salsa and two beef and cheese enchiladas. By then I was so full that I only finished half the enchiladas and since my cals were so low during the day I still came in where I wanted to.
My daughter has the same problem. The clothes fit everywhere else nicely except her little pot belly. She keeps wanting to do all my workouts with me, but I tell her that since I'm bigger I need more food and exercise than she does. So, she can only do so much.

Nanders: those are such cute ideas.

It makes me so happy that you are taking such a nice approach to helping your daughter lose weight! I was a really heavy child and all my mom did was make me feel like crap about it. I wish I had a mom like you helping me at a young age. It will make such a difference to your daughter when she is older! I know that if I would have had someone helping me when I was younger I wouldn't have the weight problems I have now. I mean I was a size 18 in fifth grade!!!! Anyway, I just really wanted to commend you on the job you're doing with your daughter! :)

Hey Manaloa, I just started a thread in the OT to see how many other people here had kids that wanted/needed to lose some weight. You're right, it does sound like our girls are in the very same boat.

I work with school aged kids and other kids can be so cruel about weight. My daughter is tall with a belly so she doesn't stand out as much as some of the other kids that are heavier, but I would like to nip this in the bud ya know? She's become very health conscious as a result of my weight loss and changing our diet so I figure its the perfect time to get the extra pounds off of her. I'm not wanting her to be super skinny like I was as a kid, but I do want her to be fit and healthy.

Anway...if you get a chance, I hope to see you down in my OT thread. :)

Food for the Day

Breakfast
1 cup oatmeal squares
1/4 cup skim milk
1 medium banana
Total: 370

Mid-morning Snack
1/2 a large peach
1 oz Tostitos scoops chips
1 cup fresh salsa
Total: 250

Lunch (it was catered in for our quarterly meeting)
1/2 a sandwich:
1/2 a croisant
1.5 slice of bacon
1 slice ham
1 slice turkey
1 leaf lettuce
2 very thin slices tomatoes
2 tsp grey poupon
1 1/8th serving baked lays
1 chocolate chip cookie
Total: 649 (soooo full)

Supper
2 small hamburger patties (5 oz) (can tell TOM is coming)
1 cup pork and beans
total: 527

Total so far: 1795

Haven't decided on whether to have dessert yet tonight as am sooo full right now. I can tell that TOM is coming as I am craving red meat. I was thinking about making a fruit smoothie as my 'rents have bought me a new blender. There is also a piece of that carrot cake left. Or as I have been craving chocolate all day, I could have a scoop of the Edy's low fat chocolate fudge chunk ice cream.

I haven't been stressing about the calories as much lately as looking through several BMR calculators for my height and weight and activity level suggests that in order to maintain my weight I need to consume an average of 2750 calories a day, as I workout aerobically an average of 5-7 days per week for at minimum 30 minutes but usually 1 hour and also lift weights 2-3 x/week. (the 2750 is an average of several sites suggestions) I've been trying to average around 1800 calories. Which is a calorie deficit of about 950 cals per day.
Though I'm not sure if the deficit for the calories I burn exercising is including in that total. I've been averaging about 1700 calories burned per week in exercise. So 950 x 7 days = 6650 + 1700 burned in exercise = 8350 calories. Which is why the lbs are dropping off so easily, I'm assuming.
Since I started back in June my average lb/week is 2.31. Which according to the math is working out correctly as to lose one lb = 3500 calories. And 8350/3500 = 2.4 lbs per week. So obviously some days I must be eating more or exercising less or gaining more muscle. But the difference is negligent.
So far I'm very happy with my progress.

hf2006 & OHD: yeah, I know what you mean, my mom was pretty horrible about any weight I gained as a child. Even as she kept telling me to clean my plate. I've noticed her doing the same to my daughter and I tell her to stop. It makes me soo angry. I also tell my daughter not to listen to her when she says those things and that if she's full she doesn't have to finish what's on her plate. OHD, I'll check out your OT thread right now. LOL

Edit: just walked 3 miles on the "walk off the lbs" video. Tired

3500 = 1 lb? I had no idea... I've realized I've been putting my body into starving mode the last week or so... according to my fitday log I burn about 3400 calories on an average day. Where is your BMR source? I've checked out a few of them online and never seem to get a consistant number.

Hi Manaloa! Your looking good in here. I like your approach with your daughter on the food and exercise. Keep up the good work!

chips and salsa are the devil! lol... I hafta tell the server to not bring them out cuz I'll just eat the whoooolllle thing, so good job for not doing what I woulda done, lol :D

Mike: I actually googled BMR calculator and go to several different sites and get what they think my BMR is and average that. Also when I use www.sparkpeople.com and follow that set up, it comes close to how much I should be consuming.

Hey Manaola. I'm back now and checking in. It seems like you're doing great and your doing a terrific job helping your daughter too.

Hi Mana, just checking on you and hoping that you're having a good day.

I always go by my net calories...meaning what I've eaten minus what I've burned. And that's the number I compare to my BMR, so whatever the deficit from that is that's what I'm banking until I get the the 3500 that would equal one pound loss. That last sentence probably made no sense whatsoever. LOL!

Cannon: Hey, I'm glad you had fun on your vacation! Yeah, I have to keep telling my daughter to cool it a wee bit on the enthusiasm. LOL

Scarlett: Yeah, I get it. You consume 1800 cals, burn 350 cals which equals 1450. Your BMR is 2000 - 1450 = 550 cal deficit.
