Fear not for the future, weep not for the past.

Hi, Manaloa! Just stopping by to see how you're doing. Looks like you are doing great! Way to go!!! Congratulations on the weight loss!

It sounds like you enjoy eating veggies and fruit, and that's wonderful. They are so good for you while being lower in calories. Unless you're a vegetarian, though, don't skimp on the protein - your body needs that too. As long as you're losing weight and still getting the proper nutrition for your body, I don't think you need to worry too much about whether you're getting in exactly enough calories. If you enjoy sticking to mostly lower calorie foods, you'll be able to reward yourself with that extra-special treat while spending time with your daughter. :)

Mmmmmmm ... fresh peaches! I love 'em! Wish I had some at my desk right now. Enjoy one for me!

Nice job on unlocking the mystery of eating well, staying full and doing it on low-cal, very low-carb foods.

Stay with it and keep searching for variety and you will be able to name any weight you want to be in a matter of time.

I think people are starting to realize that I eat often and I eat well and now you're backing up the very principals that a somewhat catabolic diet can be very rewarding to the belly AND the waistline.

Keep on doing what you're doing Mana ;)

So I'm going out of town for the weekend to take my daughter to Chicago to catch a plane for Florida where her Dad lives. We're going to stop by 6 flags tomorrow for a whole day of fun in the sun before her flight leaves Saturday morning.

So far I've been choosing pretty good choices when we've gone out. Today was really tough. I was so busy getting stuff ready to go before I headed into work that I didn't have time for breakfast at home like normal. I really didn't want fast food but I stopped at a bagel place that does breakfast sandwiches. I got a asiago bagel (my one weakness, love 'em) with a scrambled egg. No cheese or meat, I did want some veggies on it but they didn't look so good. I only had half the bagel and all the egg.

I saved the other half of the bagel for my mid morning snack. After I ate it, it didn't make a dent in the hunger pangs and all I could think was what a waste of calories. So I had a peach too.

Over my lunch hour I ran home to pick up our luggage and make sure everything was as ready as I could make it. So I didn't have time to have lunch at home either. So on the way back into work I stopped at a sub shop. Unfortunatly it's one of those shops that has an ice cream parlour with it.

So I just closed my nose and avoided looking at it and basically pretended it wasn't there. I got a grilled chicken sub with peppers, onions and cucumbers on wheat. But the lady making the sandwich said there wasn't enough chicken in the pre-portioned chicken and without my asking got another one. So I had double the chicken on it.

I got to work and opened the darn thing. It was huge!! I ended up cutting it in half and giving the other half to a co-worker. Oh, and I split a big dill pickle with another co-worker.

I have no idea what we're doing for supper because I'm picking my hubby up from work and we're heading right out. Probably fast food tonight, ugh. It doesn't even sound appetizing any more. And the salads at those places are so dry and gross.

We're going to walking all around Chicago Saturday with a friend of mine too. And I think it's supposed to be something called the Taste of Chicago this weekend? I'm hoping I can make some good choices this weekend. All I gotta say right now though is I think there's something wrong with me because I'm craving a humungous salad with everything on it.....cucumbers, onions, green peppers, carrots, green beens, broccolli, cherry tomatoes, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Help!! Help!! I think my brain's been turned into a vegetable!!!!

Someone get me some CHOCOLATE!!!!!!

Edit: So I ate all the chicken in the quarter sub and all the veggies, but I only had about four bites of the bread. I just didn't want it. So right now I'm snacking on a really juicy plum and I'm also going to have a peach. Yummmmmmmmm

Hope you had fun as Six Flags today, and that you have a fabulous weekend. The Taste of Chicago things sounds awesome.

Sooo good to be home :)

Well, I'm finally home. There's nothing like the feeling of coming home after a long trip. :p

Oh, and fair warning. Don't read this unless you have a serious addiction to longwinded diaries. This is more for me than for anyone else, so I won't apologise if the extensive diary.

Honestly, with everything that we had going on, I decided not to worry too much and count calories like a mad woman. I ate what I wanted, while attempting to resist the worst options, and stopped when I was full.

So Thursday night we take off on our trip and we did stop by BK for supper. I ended up having a junior whopper w/out mayo meal and only half the fries. I did have iced tea to drink so that was a plus, but then I split the small chocolate shake with my hubby. However, according to my calorie counter the grand total for the day was just less than 1400 calories. So, eh, I'm not crying over it.

Friday we start our day on the run because we didn't drive all the way to Illinios so we had another 3 hours in the car before we'd even get into the park. So, of course, in the efforts of expediency, we go through McD's drive by, I mean through. I get the bacon mcgriddle with the hash browns and OJ. And I gotta tell you, they were yummy. I haven't had fast food in about a month and I didn't regret one bite.

For lunch we had a footlong corndog and sprite at the park. We were there from around 11am till 6pm walking and riding the entire time. Super fun!! :D

For supper we went out to a burger joint and I ended up having a chicken sandwich, which I only ate half of and another sprite. I was very dehydrated after that long day. So I guesstamated what I ate for the day since I have no idea how many calories were in the corndog or how much sprite we drank, since we got multiple refills which we shared between the three of us. But with everything it came up to about 1900 calories. Which with the amount of running around we did, I'm still saying heck with it.

Next morning is the frantic rush at 5am to the O'hare airport to get my daughter off to Florida for a month. :( Didn't eat until she was off, and went to IHOP. Had eggs, one slice of bacon, one sausage link and one honey wheat pancake.

Went sightseeing in downtown Chicago. So many things to see. Went to the Field museum, Navy Pier, and was going to go to the Shedd Aquarium but there was an hour wait just to get in due to the Taste going on. For lunch we had a thing called the Chicago dog. A beef hot dog with what looked like a salad on top. Very yummy. We walked around from around 11am until around 5pm.

For supper we went to a lovely italian restaurant. I had a glass of Chianti with supper which was an italian salad and the appetizer portion of bruschetta. Love tomatoes!! Oh, and an obscene amount of flavored olive oil on crusty bread. And my hubby and I split a small portion of creme brulee. After we got back to the hotel I had one full bottle and maybe three sips out of another bottle of hard lemonade. And a handfull of cinnimon and sugar crusted nuts. For the day, somewhere around 2400 calories.

For breakfast again this morning we drove through the McDs and I once again went with the bacon mcgriddle meal. And for lunch we went to a restaurant called Chips, whick obviously served freshly made potato chips which we had with a creamy southwestern dip. I once again got grilled chicken, cajun style with iced tea to drink. So far today my caloric intake is already around 1600 calories and I still have supper to see to. Which will be porkchops and salad. If I even eat the chop. I don't even know how hungry I'll be.

I couldn't wait to weigh myself just to see the damage which had been done over the weekend. I usually wait until morning when I first get up, but I had forgotten to check when I left Thursday with all the running around. Well, when I checked just a bit ago it was 234.5. So I don't feel so bad now. We'll see how I am in the morning.

As it is, I had a fairly good weekend with the exception of having to see my daughter off. And with all the walking I feel fine with the amount and kind of food I ate.

Tomorrow I think I will pack additional veggie snacks as I will need to get back on my normal eating schedule again and with all the bread I ate over the weekend I don't want to make any poor choices when getting back on the diet while at work.

Well, it's nearly dinner time and I need to be off. I need to find sometime to visit some other diaries and check up on people but hopefully I'll have some time tomorrow night as tonight I think I might go for a bike ride.

So your down 6lbs since you started your diary? Is that right? That's great--and all that McGriddle action and everything. Congratulations!

Sounds like you had an action packed weekend!!! Glad you had fun!!!

And sounds like you're getting right back on track today, good for you!

Keep it up!!!

Back to the grindstone :D

Aaaaahhhhhh, another Monday.

Well, my decision to have a salad and a chop lasted until I started grilling my hubby's hot dog that he wanted. So I ended up eating most of one hot dog with mustard with one serving of flaming hot doritos and another handful of those sugared nuts (gotta get rid of those, they're killing me).

The good thing is though, I ended up chopping all my veggies for today (I need to go grocery shopping again) So that I won't binge. And after unpacking last night, I got out my weights and my exercise ball and went upstairs to work out to the the biggest loser weight lifting portion of the video. That felt good.

This morning I hauled my tushy out of bed and checked my TiVo for the Denise Austin's aerobic workout that I had recorded. I did that, and it's not much, maybe five minutes of warmup, 10 minutes of kickboxing/weight lifting and another five minute cool down. But, I still feel energized right now.

So I went downstairs to check my weight, and it's 234.5. That was after the workout and a shower, which my previous weigh ins were just after waking up without doing anything else. Which is up half a pound from mid week last week. I'm not going to sweat it. For breakfast I had the usual green pepper/onion egg w/the 1/2 pita bread & brown mustard. Yuuummmmm.

I didn't have much left in the fridge for food since we were gone since Thursday and I didn't want anything to go bad. So all I have for lunch is going to be a gallon bag only half filled with carrots, cucumber and celery and maybe some of the instant packaged oatmeal that I keep at my desk. My fruit bowl only has two red delicious apples left in it. (not my favorite kind of apple) So probably I'll have one or even two of those this afternoon. I also have one of those single seving size bags of popcorn which are 110 calories. So I've got plenty of stuff to eat.

I'm going to make myself go for a walk on my lunch hour rather than sit around. Usually I eat my lunch and just sit the rest of the time and read. But I deliberately didn't bring my book so that I wouldn't have the option of copping out.

Tonight I'm roasting a turkey breast, I stuffed it with the small inner stalks of the celery and a lemon sliced in two. And I sprinkled rosemary, garlic powder, and onion powder over the top. I'm going to serve it with mashed potatoes and steamed carrots & broccoli and corn. I thought about making the stovetop stuffing that I still have in the cupboard, but I can't resist it. I have a box of wild rice that I may cook instead.

Nuts :(
It's raining. I'll take my lunch later in the afternoon, maybe it'll stop by then so that I can take my walk.

Mana, I can really relate to the sufferage any trip to Chicago creates. When you were at the Navy Pier, the Jardine Water Plant was right beside you and I use to deliver there for 3 solid years from April till October.

I got to know the food in the area and I had my share of Portillo Hot Dogs and Malnati's Pizza's and on and on...

I can see why Chicago is the Food capital of the USA. The food out there is just simply sinful.

I'm glad you're still on track and doing things in a way you're happy with.

Keep it up !!

Hey there- glad you had a good time in Chicago! And good job on the additional weight loss. I love changing my ticker.

You'll have to let me know how the turkey turns out. I can eat celery raw from time to time, but I've never had it cooked...

Actually Val, the only time I ever eat cooked celery is in beef stew. The celery and lemon in the turkey is more for the aroma to infuse the meat while it's cooking.

So the veggies I brought weren't doing it for me. So I ran out to the grocery and picked up some fruit to restock my fruit bowls. And for lunch I picked up 3 slices of ham from the deli, and a 1/2 cup of tomato bruschetta also from the deli and some wheat thins. Then I had a little picnic. I preportioned out my wheat thins, since I have a tendency with them to just keep eating. It was actually too much food but it tasted so good. It was 445 calories, but entirely worth it. Soooo goooood.

So, with supper added into it my caloric intake for the day is still going to be just under 1200 calories. Maybe I'll have some chocolate angel food cake and low fat whipped topping for desert, that'll be another 200 calories. We'll have to see how full I am.

Hey Manaola! I'm glad your back and you enjoyed your trip! I think it's good you ate what you wanted. I mean, Food is good! You did fine, and you excersized during it all. Plus now you aren't taking any breaks, and you're making up for the food. Being healthy is part of your life, eating what you want, and working it off. You had fun, and you don't feel guilty. That's all that's important! That turkey sounds soo good. I'm coming to your house for dinner tonight!

I've just gotta say, McDonald's breakfast is just evil. I love McGriddles, sausage and egg biscuits, hotcakes and sausage, basically everything they have. But, looking back at my food diary - I have only had three really big calorie days since I started counting calories 5 weeks ago, and two of those were because of McD's breakfasts!

Oh, and after I ate those breakfasts, my journal entries indicate that I had a really hard time battling the munchies all day long! I really do love their breakfasts, but they are something I am going to have to avoid but for rare occasions.

I completely agree!!! Everything else I had eaten the rest of the day equaled what I ate at McD's for breakfast. I have noticed since I've been back that I've wanted to eat more (in my head, rather then my belly), but I have been resisting the urge. Hopefully, in a couple of days it'll go away again.

So last night I was very bad. I had that lovely supper and it was super yummy, but after eating the turkey, I thought I was going to pass out from sleepiness. I ended up not working out and instead munching on those darn sugared nuts. HAVE TO GET RID OF THOSE!!!

But I'm not going to let it get me down. I will start over again today and completely avoid those darn things.

So for lunch today I'm trying a new turkey salad receipe. I chopped about 3 tbsp of green peppers & 3 tbsp of white onion & 3 tbsp of a seeded cucumber very fine, then I chopped around 4 oz of turkey breast and mixed it with 6 tbsp of non-fat ranch dressing, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and a big dash of paprika. It tasted pretty good when I tested it this morning, but my tasters different in the morning then the rest of the day. So we'll see how it tastes when I have lunch. I also sliced up the rest of the cucumber to spread the salad on to eat, but when I added up my totals for the day at that point it seemed really low, so I added a serving of wheat thins if I'm still hungry. Even that wouldn't get me to 600 calories for the day, but I will probably have some fruit too. And then I'll have to decide on dinner.

Well, I got hungry around 9:30am so I had an apple. Then I had my lunch at 10:30, but I couldn't eat it all, I only had half and then the rest of my co-workers decended on the rest of the turkey salad. I had to eat then because I was getting the munchies and I figured better an early lunch then junk food.
Then at 11:30 I was really craving a plum, so I had that. But then at 12:30 I was hungry again. So after checking the vending machines, I ended up getting a blueberry bagel with cream cheese.

Now it's 1:20 and I'm still feeling like I need to eat!! What is wrong with me!!!! :(

Honey, there is nothing wrong with you....you're just going through the initiation phase while your body gets used to the foods and smaller portions you are giving it. But if you keep at it eventually your stomach and your brain will get used to it and know what to expect. When you get hungry just go for the fruit. It will help with sugar cravings.

You're going to be fine!!!!! Hang in there!!! We all love you and know you can do it!!!!

I love my bike! :D

So last night I ended up having a turkey sandwich with tomato and baked lays. Then I sat around getting caught up on all my TiVo'd shows that I watch. As I was sitting there, blipping through the commercials (LOVE TiVo) my gaze fell on my hand weights. So I started lifting weights while I watched my shows. And I even did some crunches & side crunches. It really wasn't too distracting at all. So now I have no excuse not to workout while watching my shows.

This morning I got up early and made myself some super yummy homemade french toast. Two eggs, 1/4 cup skim milk, vanilla, cinnimon & two pieces of wheat toast. Grilled them on a non-stick skillet. With a dash of syrup. I never realized how many empty calories were in syrup. Wow. I didn't use up all the mix when I made the toast, so I can only guesstamate on the amount of calories, but I came up with around 380 calories. It was completely worth it. Super yummy.

Lunch is lettuce and turkey in a sun-dried tomato wrap. And another big bag of veggies. I'm probably going to have an apple here in a bit, too. So my total for the day after I eat all that would be 840.
