Elizab3th's Diary : 'Running Away From Fat'

A good bar is the "balance bar" You can get them at walmart for less than $1 each and they dont have sugar alcohols and stuff (The jury is still out on those in my mind) They are pretty filling and have about 210 cal's. They have a good balance (hence the name?) of protein, fat and carbs. "Normal" foods like Tuna are still the best way to get your proteins though.
Gotta say I much prefer to get my proteins from meats and nuts. Hm... peanut butter sandwich sounds good about now.... NO! Its 12:30am, much to late for snacking!

Only 2 more days until the 15th! I know there will be some progress!

Good mornin' Elizab3th :D I get about 120g protein a day (keeps me full and keeps me from snacking). I eat a lot of fish, cottage cheese and chicken. I also use a protein powder on days I am "short". I tend to shy away (although not completely avoid) from PB as I am a Peanut (just ask Hypo Hippo :D) - not to mention its more fat than I really want for the amount of protein it offers..... I also shy away from red meat for the same reasons.

I know, I'm on the weird side but I work for me :D Hope you have a great day today :D

we eat fish too at least once a week - tilapia, trout, flounder. Get my protein also from chicken, low-fat cottage cheese snacks (love them!), and occasionally ground beef, pork and steak. I noticed that I like each meal to have at least a serving of protein/meat, it keeps me fuller longer. I also love Balance Bars, but they don't keep me full for too long - except when I'm active. They are great when you're out and about, and don't have time for lunch, and great alternative to fast food. Personally I've found that recommended amount of protein is not quite enough for me - I prefer to get more, because it keeps me full longer and seems to give more energy and overall well-being. Two cautions on protein: Big fish (like tuna, salmon and shark) tend to have higher levels of mercury, so limit their consumption and instead increase consumption of small fish. There is such a thing as too much protein. If you eat too much for your body to metabolize, your kidneys will work hard to expell it from your body, which can theoretically over-tax them. But if you're eating a 1200 calorie diet, and it is balanced, I don't think you're in danger of that. Just listen to your body closely and monitor how you feel, and you'll be fine.
You're doing great on exercise and food. Just make sure you get at least 1000-1200 calories a day. Lower may put you in "starvation mode".
All the best!

hey elizabeth. You are doing awesome!!! 14 lbs.! whoo!!! That is great. Keep up the good work. You'll be into the 40's in no time!

The only thing that I would recommend (as long as your back agrees) is to get some exercise in. I know we all feel lazy sometimes, but remember the first 10 minutes are the hardest so just try to get into that gym clothes and go for a walk at least!! It will you do you some good!

Great job so far!!

Okay - thanks guys for the feedback, I love tuna for lunches because it's so easy and good for you (I know about the mercury), but it's not enough to keep me from eating it - especially when I only have fish about 3 - 4 times a week.. usually salmon. I looked it up though and it says that I should be eating 1g of protein for every lb. that's 154g of protein! That's way too much isn't it? How do you guys get that in? How the hell is anybody supposed to get 5 - 10 fruits/veggies plus all that protein on top of everything else we need and on a low budget. I guess until I move into my new place I'm kinda screwed for getting all the good stuff. That's why I depend on protein bars for now...

Hey Girlfriend! Thanks for stopping by my journal and for your support. I just read some of yours. You are too cute. I am so happy for you losing that much weight. You go girl! Keep it up. Sounds like your body is responding great.

This is just me, but no amount of healthy eating is worth holding back the desire to yack it all back up. Seriously, I don't care how good for you raw eggs are, it just ain't gonna happen with me ;)

But if you can choke them back, power to you :p

I don't think I can. Was actually hoping that someone would give me a big reason too... I guess I shouldn't be so lazy and just cook 'em hey?

Exercise for the day! :D
- (25 minutes Elliptycal+25 minutes Treadmill)= 50 Min. Cardio
- 10 minute Tae Bo
- 50 sit ups and 1 min. "bike" - Pilates style...
- a bunch of wacky dancing around my apartment.
- 1 minute wall sit! haha.
