EG's Diary

Being on this lifestyle change is a bit difficult for me only because my days aren't the same as everyone else's. I work the night shift so my morning starts at 3:00 pm. I hear people telling me that I should eat after 7:30 pm but that is virtually impossible for me. Whatever it is I'm doing is working for me but I am dreading going back to working days. There was never enough time in the day to get things done and I was drained by the time I went to bed. I wanted to spend my days off doing zip. Anyway, all is well in my shrinking body. I am taking things one day at a time and I made it through the day without "cheating". I feel wonderful and I feel blessed and God-willing this will all be just a nightmare very soon.

If it makes you feel better, I "cheat" a little everyday, but don't consider it cheating. You can't get through this if you don't allow yourself a treat- thats not a lifestyle, thats a restriction, ya know? Just eat a candy bar, add it into your calorie intake. :)

I am also a major night owl, if you read my new diary- you will see me complain about how I struggle with major insomnia :p I woke up yesterday at 4:45 am, and didn't get in bed till 5:00 am this morning. It's hard, but I still do fairly well.

Since I have clicked on this diary like 5 times thinking it was mine I though I should at least say hi.

Hi!

If it makes you feel better, I "cheat" a little everyday, but don't consider it cheating. You can't get through this if you don't allow yourself a treat- thats not a lifestyle, thats a restriction, ya know? Just eat a candy bar, add it into your calorie intake. :)

You know I think of it the same way. I'm not cheating. And a little taste of something you reaaaally want isn't going to hurt. I know that for a fact because that's exactly what I've been doing and it's worked so far.

Hang in there. I was glad to hear that the pounds dropped after "that time of month" cuz I just started mine yesterday and had my first weigh in this morning, and was not too happy with the results. Hopefully next week will be better. It is good to know that others go through the same things. Even though I know it sucked for you, it is encouraging to hear that things got better.

Good luck in your continued success.

Oh yeah! It definitely got better. I also found that when I weigh myself, it's best to weigh myself after I've done my exercise for the day. I found out that that's when I'm the lightest. I wake up, wash my face, put on my workout clothes and hit the streets walking or on my bike, then I come home do my crunches and weight train and then I weigh myself before I have breakfast. I have a smile on my face everytime I get on the scale.

Good idea!!! I think I might do that too. We don't eat out often, but it's a good incentive. Not so much as a reward, but a way to get to the goal sooner. You are doing so well for yourself! Thanks for stopping by my journal. Since we are the same weight, it will be a fun challenge to keep each other motivated!

I was looking forward to reading that from you. You do keep me motivated and I'd love to do the same for you. It's what's been helping me on this journey, all the help and positive comments from everyone on this forum. Thanks.

Feeling clothes as looser= x10 better than anything the scale says! I love buying a size or two lower and seeing they fit. I am happy to see you are doing so well! I hope you keep updating your diary!

I'm definitely going to keep updating my diary. It's what keeps me going along with you gals. :)

Today's 08/14/08 Meals: (I work nights so: 3:00 pm is breakfast and 3:00 am is dinner)

Breakfast: eggs (1 egg, 2 whites), turkey sausage, 1/4 cup cream of wheat, grapefruit

Snack: nectarine

Lunch: 2 oz Chicken, 1/2 cup rice, cup zucchini

Snack: 2 oz fish, 1/2 cup sweet potato

Dinner: 2 oz Lean Beef tips, 1/2 cup rice, cup zucchini

Dessert: Mango

100 oz of water for the day.

My daughter (10 yo) made blueberry muffins by herself and just needed me to taste. I took one little nibble and determined she is going to be a good cook just like my mom and me. :) Then my mom made an Italian cream cake so I took a tiny nibble of that. OMG! It was wonderful. I wanted to eat the whole slice but I was good and wrapped it up to take to my husband. I was good for the rest of the day. Tomorrow (technically today) I'm taking my mom and daughters out for breakfast. I love the time we can spend together: just us girls.

Don't limit your experiences with friends and family.. make a lifestyle change- this means not completely cutting out going out, at times it will discourage you. Go out and eat some, I am not saying do it every night, but there are MANY ways to go out and make healthy choices ( ie: check the menu online beforehand, and decide what to eat then.) Also, once you learn good nutrition making healthier choices should be alot easier in restaurants. :)

Ask for a nutritional guide at the restaurant also, I'm sure they will have one..

Aleeluh- Yeah, you're right about that. It's too hard to avoid going, and I can always make a better option like salad or a sandwich and soup.....it's having the will power to actually do that though!!! I did go out to a restaurant yesterday with my girlfriends and didn't order the best option, but I figured into my daily calories and was fine. I finally hit a new low this morning on the scale after all of that!!! :)

:) Great job on losing that pound! I finally hit 217 this morning as well!!! Keep up the great work! Your meals are sooo healthy!

We're toe to toe. Awesome job on losing that pound! I'm glad we are the same weight. It makes me look forward to us sticking to this together. As far as you eating out and not making the best option; I do that probably once a week for one meal. It makes me happy and feel like I'm not really dieting. Take care.

08/15/08 - Friday

Today I did a little experiment since it was technically my "free day". I ate the way I used to eat. I didn't watch what I ate but I only ate three meals with no snacks. I ate exactly like I did before I began my lifestyle change. I had never really added up my calories before so I wanted to see exactly why I was gaining weight. Well this is what I ate:

Breakfast: Potato, egg, bean, cheese taquito and coffee

Lunch: Turkey sandwich (2 slices turkey, 2% cheese, 2 slices of tomato, tsp Kraft light mayo, white bread without crusts), a slice of Italian Cream Cake

Dinner: Two slices of Domino's Ultimate Deep Dish Pizza (Pepperoni & mushroom) and 6 bbq wings

Hold on to your seats!!!

Totals for the day: 3,103 calories / 170.6 g fat / 248.1 carbs / 148.0 protein

Take eating like that everyday and sitting around on the couch watching television doing absolutely no exercise. It's no wonder I was the weight I was.
Right now I rarely consume more than 1300 calories a day and I've been losing weight at a steady pace. I can tell you something right now; I'll never go back to eating like that again. I was sluggish and bloated all day. I can't believe I let myself live like that. It really opened my eyes. I just thought I would share with ya'll. Now, back to getting healthy!!

Wow. That's great that you did that experiment to see how you used to eat. The crazy thing about that is that you really didn't eat a lot of food, it's just that everything had so many calories!

It really does feel great to be able to eat healthier throughout the day and not have that "oh so full" feeling after a huge meal.

Keep up the good work! We'll all be seeing the other side of 200 in no time...

Its amazing what the body gets used to, isn't it? First it gets used to high calorie, high fat eating with little to no exercise, then it gets used to eating healthier and exercise... then if you introduce the fatty stuff back in, it freaks out. A few weeks ago I had one small slice of pizza from a place called Zachary's. It tasted really, really good, but oh did I feel gross & sluggish afterwards! :banghead:

Good experiment... it will definitely help you keep what works for your body in mind when it comes to eating.

So I spent all weekend pigging out on my mom's delicious mexican food. I feel so blah! I'm scared to get on the scale and see if I've gained 30 pounds. Tomorrow (technically today) when I get up I'm going to hit the pavement walking and then come home to do my weight training. Then I'll get on the scale to see the damage I've done to myself. It's such a hard thing to go through. I've been doing so well and then I spend a weekend with my mom and I go crazy. I used to cook all the food she did but I stopped. If I make what she makes I just make it healthier. It's not quite the same but at least I feel better when I eat it. I guess I'll update tomorrow and see how it goes. Pray for me :)

Well, I know how you feel, but you just gotta keep going and not get discouraged. At least you found out that you don't want to eat like that all the time anymore. And if you do eat like that once in a while, with the majority of your meals being healthy, then hey... consider it a treat. This is a new day, a new week, and a new life!

You can do this!!!

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. You are right.

Back on Track

I jumped back on track again today. I weighed in at 219 :( but it's okay. This week I know I'll be down a pound or two and I won't make the same mistakes I did this past weekend. I think I learned my lesson. Anyway here is what I ate today:

Breakfast: 1/2 c Malt-o-Meal, 1 c skim milk, 2 egg whites/1 whole egg scrambled, turkey sausage, grapefruit

Snack: Mozzarella cheese stick and an apple

Lunch: Turkey roll-ups (3 oz deli sliced turkey, 1 cup lettuce, 1/2 tomato and 1 tbsp fat free ranch)

Snack: 1/2 c lowfat cottage cheese, 1 c cantaloupe

Dinner: 2 oz chicken breast, 1/2 c rice, 1 c broccoli

Dessert: sliced mango

100 oz of water for the day

Exercise: 45 min Turbo Jam / 30 min of weight training / 100 crunches

For some reason today, nothing calms my hunger. I have been hungry all day long. I was fine after breakfast but after that I just have this constant hunger pang in my stomach. I feel crappy. Even after all the water I drink and as often as I eat I just don't ever feel full. I hope it gets better as the week creeps along because this really sucks. I'll keep my head up and my mouth closed. Tomorrow will be better, I'm sure. Alright gals. Have a good one.

You are definitely right about that....I can't believe my body was used to eating that way. Now that I eat right and I go back to eating how I used to even for one meal, my body does not agree with it.

Great job on your eating and exercise!!

What a day to be proud of!!!

You did OVER and hour of intense workouts and you ate so healthy...plenty of fruit and veggies. GO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hurray:

Something that might help curb your appetite is to get in a little bit more protein with a couple almonds at snack time. I was actually thinking of that for myself today, but the hunger never did strike.

I have noticed that when I eat more protein, I'm not as hungry. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks a bunch.
