Ed's Diary

I've never had a hard time getting my protein in but that's probably b/c I conditioned myself to eat a lot of it from the start. I've always been a big meat eater. That said though, I do find it necessary to eat 5-6 meals per day if I'm going to comfortably get my protein in.

Sure, I could do it in less, but it would leave me feeling uncomfortable. 5-6 is my sweet spot. And by meals, I'm not talking snacks. I'm talking balanced meals with adequate protein.

One more thing: Don't be afraid of your powder. There have been times where I was drinking multiple shakes per day that contained two scoops.

Thanks Steve. Yeah. Unfortunately I think that will ultimately be my solution. With work and all I just can't have 2 helpings of protein 5-6 times a day.

I pre-cook all my meat and put it in pre-weighed baggies. At work, I'll just run down to the fridge, grab a baggy or two and eat at my desk. I understand that not all office jobs allow this to be possible and I'm sure you would have thought of this if you could.

Ed I have something you might find really beneficial, if you shoot me a pm.

But basically, as Steve says, it's all about efficiency. I spend less than 15 minutes a day preparing my food (because I do it in big batches twice a week - once isn't often enough, imo, it tastes all icky after the 4th day). Which I'm certain is far less than you "don't have time for" now.

Me, I have my own personal fridge that nobody else can get at because I keep it locked. XD

Some people carry coolers with them. Whatever it takes, man. :D It's really not as difficult as it seems. If you want a guided tour, like I said, the pm. ;)

Sorry if I'm buggin', but all I'm tryin' to point out is it's not that it can't be done. Only that you're not doing it because a) you don't know how or b) you don't consider it worth it. B is perfectly acceptable, just don't say it's A, or I go into helpful mode. :p

Thanks for the kick in the ass. I'm just being lazy. I actually meant that people say "it is easy" but I have to really try. But the more I track it I realize I do need to try a little harder. I think yesterday I had 141g and only had 1 scoop of whey. I was just about a chicken boob and another scoop short.

Haha.

Yea, lately I've been living on 2-3 scoops of whey per day. It varies with how the rest of life is going about.

OK very interesting night. We are having a sleepover for my kids. So the wife and I decide to take the dog for a walk. So we get about halfway around the block. The dog pulls wife into gutter. Ed hears "POP", wife screams. So I run back to the house. .2 miles maybe (at least I got some exercise) My sister inlay takes Violet to the hospital.

Broken 5th metatarsal. Ouch.

Poor wifey. Cant get a cast or boot or nuthin till weekday. I feel so bad. Plus since she cant walk I am a one man family taker care ofer. No complaints though. At least I'm not hurt. The doc says its a bitch to heal from to. May not need surgery but could be a lot of time in a cast. Like 20 weeks. Thats like half a freakin year.

I am going to be positive though. I'm drinking 7 and 7's and putting steaks on the grill, after which I am going to watch the Tide Roll all over Clemson. That should make me feel better.

Thanks. I feel very sorry for her. The foot hurts and the pain meds are making her nauseous. No win situation.

Rooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Tide! ROll

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer
We just beat the hell out of Clemson!

That's a strong doggy you have there, what kind?

Well, hopefully wife recovers quickly as possible. Could have been worse, that's the way I always look at these types of things. Shit, did you see that elite triathlete who broke her neck during the bike portion of her race last weekend? 65 years old, has won some serious shit, has a twin sister that's as good as her from what I know.

Crashed, breaks neck, paralyzed from neck down, on life support, family all around, can only communicate with blinks, and is saying (through answering questions with blinks) over and over that she wants to die.

Shit can always stink more and it's important to keep that perspective.

Haha. Thats the funny part. He is a mut. Like a beagle mix. He weights about 12 lbs, just caught her off balance.

Damn that sad about the biker chick.

While I have your ear though Steve. One thing she is most bummed about is her exercise. She has lost 35lbs and has been hitting the gym pretty hard. Any advise on what she can do with this sort of injury? I know shes pretty much shut down now but in a couple weeks she should be in a walking boot. I was thinking she may could do some circuits on the machines or something

Yea, I mean she's pretty much going to have to wait to see what the doc says. But the most she'll be able to do, probably, is upper body stuff. Possibly some lower body stuff with knee flexion and extension. But for the most part, she should tighten up her nutrition and eat around maintenance until she recovers. When you're injured like that... it's not a time to worry about weight loss. It's more a time to worry about healing and secondarily about not being completely lax on nutrition.

Werd. I figured as much. I thionk she wants to do something though. Even if it is just to help her mentally.

Hey Ed. Sorry to hear about the wife gettin hurt. That game was just a beating for Clemson. I hate that the ACC is so weak when it comes to football. At least we got basketball right? Haha.

True dat. I am hoping that Clemson is still really good though because that would mean that Bama is awesome. Its been a tough several years for us. We need a good year.

OK well I guess I had a pretty good week as far as diet goes.

8/24-8/30 Nutrition Avg.'s
Calories: 1994
Fat 33%
Carbs 35%
Protein 25% (126g)

I am working on upping the protein. Yesterday I had 176g which is about what I'm shooting for.

I think I will have to skip my gym trip today due to the wifes injury. I don't want to leave her here w/the kids for 1 hour+. I will try and do a body weight circuit and maybe go for a run.

Your poor wife!!! :( That would be one of my worst nightmares....*shudder*

When I was in Hilo, I went to BJ Penn's fitness club. He wasn't there, altough he WAS there in the early morning. My homegirl and I were already on our way back to South Kona so I couldn't wait around for him. He has a bunch of T-shirts for sale there, and the clerk at the desk told me his MOM makes them :) She says the business is very family oriented. Cute! Sorry, no autograph....
