Dominique's Journey :)

"Quite terrible" is when I eat half a kilo of chocolate (2800 kcal) and two family sized bags of chips (another 2000 or so) on top of my normal meals, then collapse on the couch :p 1944 all in while going to the gym is not a great day but it won´t actually make you gain weight. So pick yourself up again, don´t worry about it and make tomorrow count!

thanks lol i was feeling bad because i wasnt expecting to have that and i ate the whole thing, which after i felt was unnecessary but it was delicious

Ugh, yes! So this! There's something about chocolate and potato chips, lol!

Dominique - don't fret so much about the 'terrible', just learn from it and move on to another good day. As long as there are more better days than not, you're going to win the battle!

Thanks again everyone for the advice and reassurance
Todays menu
Breakfast: Mini wheats ( i usually had 1 and a half servings) and ofc with milk.. 375 calories
Lunch: A smoothie, 1 apple and half a cup of blueberries.. 275 calories. I went to work today and i was so tempted to get stuffed jalapenos but i didnt :D
Dinner: a tuna sandwhich, kettle chips, and half an apple. Lol my parents dont cook
Snacks: 7 almonds, 1 pouch of fruit snacks, and mini wheats ( i need to stop having so much mini wheats) - 372 calories
I didnt workout today because i went to work and my legs are too tired. Today was 1622 calories but it wasnt super healthy
* also a bad part about working is that i feel i dont drink enough water, even though i have access to water the whole day, i dont like drinking while working :(

What do your parents eat when they don't cook? Anything you could have half a portion of and supplement with veggies perhaps?

well that was their idea of "cooking" lol so they had tuna sandwhiches as well, and usually when they tell us to find something on our own to make my dad would make something like a frozen pizza and my mom would have a snack item. So i would usually make myself something different

You may just have to become an inspiration to your parents Dominique :D Are there any cookbooks in your house? If not, maybe check out some healthy eating cookbooks either online or in your local bookshop & have a go. You may love it. Learning to cook good healthy food would be something that would hold you in good stead for the rest of your life.

I fully agree with Cate. I don´t enjoy cooking but plenty of people do (and I do it, even if I don´t enjoy it). Try healthy college recipes for starters. The Brothers Green have a pretty cool Youtube channel which caters to cooking novices with not a lot of money or time, though not all of it is healthy.

There are no cookbooks in this household lol but that does sound like a great idea, i have some recipes from a culinary class i took this previous year and they were all from scratch, not too pricey and some were healthy, Getting an easy healthy cookbook is on my to do list now.

Today was so so
Breakfast: 1 blueberry pancake, 2 sausage links and 2 eggs- 598 calories
Lunch: (wasnt really lunch, i went to the movies and so i wasnt tempted, i brought my own snacks) i had 2 servings of pirates booty which is a healthier puffed cheese popcorn, half an apple and 1/3 c of blueberries, and i was tempted and bought a tiny half portion of hot cheetos :( - 483 calories
Dinner: Salmon and rice ( i did go back for a tiny second plate) i dont know how many calories are in salmon so i took the most common - 620 calories
Snack: once again mini wheats with almond milk - 252 calories
I need to learn how to portion control and to stop eating when im satisfied. Usually ill finish the food just to finish it and i end up stuffed. Like at the movies i wish i didnt buy the chips. Oh well this is a work in progress

I burned off 518 calories and consumed 1954, with a net of 1436

Sounds like a good day to me! Great job working out and your dinner sounds delicious - I really should eat salmon more often! ?

Good work avoiding most of the temptation. About the cooking: I suggest starting with once or twice a week only, so it doesn't get stressful and annoying. You can do this, and once you get the hang of it it'll be much tastier than ready-made crap.
Also: I own lots of cookbooks but in the end I find all my recipes online. Sorted food is a great resource for beginners and pros alike.

I just got side-tracked looking at healthy recipes online. There are a gazillion & I'm sure you'll easily find some that look enticing. I love having an actual book, but I am also very lucky to have a husband who LOVES cooking & hates unhealthy food. I think it's great that you are wanting to eat healthy Dominique & I'm sure you'll work it out.

Thanks guys! i think me cooking one healthy meal a week would be a great start for not only me but my family as well.

I made a plan to weigh myself every friday since i started this journey on a friday. My starting weight was 177.2, now i am 175.8 which i think is actually great, even though its only 1.4 pounds., for the first week. After this week i think something i could improve would be to have smaller portions and to try replacing one meal, preferably lunch, with a smoothie.

For it being a friday i think i did pretty well compared to before
Breakfast: half an apple and 1/4 cup of blueberries - 63 calories
Lunch: 1 smoothie and a small fruit salad- 293
Dinner: my parents brought me a steak burrito bowl from chipotle, normally i'd eat the whole thing but today i ate about 60% - 732 calories
Snacks: 4 stuffed jalapenos from work (today i had weird hours and they gave me my half way too early which caused me to be hungry when i got off, which is why i got these)
Mini wheats w almond milk - 544 calories
I consumed 1633 calories and i burned off 520, making it a net of 1113

Im actually proud of myself because before when school was in session, on fridays i'd reward myself with burger king for breakfast, and then id end up having processed school lunch as well as fast food for dinner. And even on friday game days i would go to starbucks in the morning and i'd go out to eat with my friends before the game.. as well as snacking at the games. It's quite shocking to see my old eating habits compared to now. Still room for improvement of course.

That is a HUGE improvement! Be careful though: if your breakfast is nothing more than fruit than having only a (mainly fruit?) smoothie (and more fruit) is going to add a lot of (natural, but still) sugar but no protein or complex carbs.

I think it's a great idea to do that once a week! It's good to make those little changes at first, so it doesn't feel like you're taking such drastic measures in your life to be healthy - it will help you maintain it long term. I hope that makes sense, I'm exhausted and half asleep while typing. Heading to bed and good job on another good day with self control! xoxo

oh yeah normally i wouldnt have that but went to work early and didnt have time for breakfast at home so i just had that

Well today was just terrible lol, but im trying not to beat myself up about it
Breakfast: (i went to work later in the day so my parents cooked up breakfast) 2 waffles, 3 sausage links, 2 eggs, breakfast rice, and 1 hashbrown
Lunch: 1 smoothie, 2 popeyes chicken strips, 1 biscuit (i wouldve been so good if i didnt eat that popeyes )
Dinner: the rest of my chipotle bowl from yesterday
Snacks:i actually didnt snack bc of work
I didnt work out either due to work hours :( i ate 2118 calories.

Regardless of how bad i did today, im amazed to think just 2 weeks ago i was eating so much more calories, i wish i was able to track my calories back then it probably would've been in the 3000 range

Hi! Realized I haven't posted here before. I'm butterfly. Improvement is improvement, no matter how small. At least you recognize you still need to improve, that is a great step. You've got this!
