Dominique's Journey :)

Well a little background about me, im 16 years old and i've basically been overweight since about 4th grade. This year is my senior year and i really want to lose weight for all the activities this year. What sparked me into really starting this is at the end of october is senior night for football (and im a cheerleader) and for senior night we are required to fly :( meaning our teammates have to pick us up and i feel im too heavy and i dont want to be embarrased. I bought a scale and weighed myself today and im about 5'5 and i weigh 177.2. I honestly thought it would be worse because since november i got my first job.... at jack in the box. Food is half off so of course i eat there quite often, and now i have my own car so i find myself eating out too often. But a great thing is i have my own money to buy lots of healtthy foods. Where i live there is a workout room and i try best to go at least 3 times a week on the days i dont have practice and i burn about 350 calories each time (thats not good enough). Since we just got done with cheer camp and practice doesnt start til august im hoping to go to the workout room 5 times a week for about 45mins-1 hour. All together im hoping to get down to 145 pounds by at least november.

I will be posting what i ate at the end of the day. And Hello to anyone who reads this :D

Hi Dominique & welcome to the forum. While exercise is really important for our general health & wellbeing, what you eat is the key to losing weight. At your age, I would try to avoid "dieting" as such. A good healthy diet with fresh vegetables, fruit, lean protein, water, very little processed food & cut down on soda & incorporating some extra exercise will make a lot of difference. Try to avoid fried food. Your metabolism should be ok & you should lose weight, just by being mindful of everything you eat. All the best, cheers, Cate.

Hi Dominique and welcome to the forum! Kudos to you for getting on the right track. I agree with Cate about food/exercise and I think it'd be important to add: be kind to yourself. You're well on your way to adulthood and that means being (more) responsible for your own well-being mentally as well as physically. You're worth treating well.

Yeah i have a really big problem with over procesed foods and fast food but im trying to minimize that and then eventually cut it out of my diet completely. Thanks for the tips

Today wasnt the greatest day, im not trying to have a strict diet but simply reduce my portions and consume way less calories. i got myfitnesspal and it said for me to lose 1 pound a week i need to only consume 2070 calories, which is alot so im confused, but anyway

Breakfast: a smoothie ( almond milk, 1 banana, mixed berries, and strawberries) and 1/4 cup of steel cut oatmeal (i added 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, a tiny bit of honey and 1/4 of an apple)
Lunch: 1/2 of a sandwhich i made (1 slice of turkey, 2 bacons, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 tomato, onions nd banana peppers on a jalapeno and cheese roll) with spinach and artichoke dip and wheat thins
Dinner: (i just had to ) i went to wendys and had 8 nuggets and value fries
Snack: A venti iced carmel macchiato from starbucks (i had a free drink reward) and 6 cups of water

(posting what i ate really inspires me to eat better, since others can see this as well) Im hoping for a better day tommorow :)

That is confusing. On MFP for me to lose a lb a week it tells me 1430 cals, which I think would be about right.
Nuggets, fries & caramel macchiato? Ouch.
Here's to a better day tomorrow! Cheers, Cate.

That is interesting. I put the data you gave in your first post into a couple of different calculators and they all give you a basic metabolic rate of around 1600 (meaning I agree with Cate´s estimate; maybe you misstyped something?).
I never cease to be amazed by how much food I can eat every day if I actually scrap the unhealthy stuff.

really ill go back because even i knew something was off

okay after fixing the calorie thing, my new goal is 1750 calories which seems more right (it would be even lower but on mfp i put lightly active should i change it to no excersize at all so i can see my true amount of calories?)

Breakfast: 2 waffles, 2 small sausage links, and some breakfast rice... I actually had a really small plate. The calories were: 550
Lunch: 1 smoothie and an apple 324 calories
Dinner: i went to mods pizza and basically had a pizza, but to be fair i did load the pizza with veggies and reduced the meat and cheese 862 calories
Snack: diced watermelon and 3/4 of an apple 144 calories
All together i ate 1879 calories which is over my goal of 1750, but i burned 518 while working out. So my net calories was: 1379

*to explain the pizza, every friday and saturday we eat out, my parents even brought back cake but i declined for the fruit. and i had about 12 cups of water today.

Hi there! Great job on the exercise and having the willpower to say no to the cake - that's progress for sure.

I think you can make great progress in 4 months with weight loss before your senior night, and like Cate said, cutting down on the processed food will definitely help (I know it's hard, I struggle with it as well). If you are still uncomfortable being a flyer in October, would you be able to be a base? Or are all the cheerleaders at your school required to fly? Just interested to see if things are different where you are.

oh im really a backspot, but for senior night all seniors have to fly and really size isnt an issue because theyve been able to pick up girls WAY bigger than me but im really insecure :(. And thanks for the encouragement im really hoping i stick to this

today was pretty good (imo)
Breakfast- a yogurt and half an apple... 210 calories
Lunch: 1 smoothie, diced watermelon (1 cup) and half an apple- 269 calories
Dinner: 2 hot links? ( not even 2 because one i didnt like so i had about 1/4 of it), kettle chips and potato salad- 894 calories ( give or take )
Snacks- hallf an apple, 14 almonds (unsalted jsut natural), mini wheats / almond milk. - 435 calories
I burned 517 calories (i hate working out )
All together i ate 1808, and burned 517 so its a net of 1,297

Today wasnt that bad as well
Breakfast: 1 apple and 1 serving of steel cut oats with blureberries on top ( everytime i make this, it goes wrong i think i put too much water and the texture comes out terrible) calories- 262
Lunch- was big... i made a grilled chicken sandwhich (loaded with veggies) half a banana and kettle jalapeno chips - 818 calories
Dinner- i had 2 grilled chicken skewers, with zuchinni, bell peppers (green and red) and onion. -154 calories (id take a few calories away because in total there was only 7 small pieces of grilled chicken and they were very small skewers)
Snacks- blueberry ice cream.. I made it by freezing 1 and 1/2 bananas then blending it with half a cup of blueberries (a little almond milk) then freezing that again. It really tasted similar to ice cream minus the vanilla, the texture was spot on to ice cream. Im definitely making that again but i'd like to buy chocolate protein powder to make chocolate ice cream. -168 calories

Today i ate 1402 calories but i burned off 520, making it a net of 882

Oh, yum. That does sound delicious. I must start making some "ice-cream" too. Well done Dominique on some good days :)

Today was quite terrible lol
Breakfast- i had two toaster strudels and a cup of milk.. 480 calories
Lunch- 2 chicken skewers, a bit of mixed fruit(half of banana, pineapple and watermelon), and kettle chips 476 calories
Dinner- A steak burrito with everything except beans (from a taqueria)... idek the calories but theres an estimate of 800 calories
I just considered this to be my cheat day since my parents brought it home
Snacks- chocolate "ice cream" made from 1 and a half bananas (frozen) and 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder. - 188 (it really tasted like chocolate ice cream but i prefer the blueberry one)
I burned off 515 calories, this workout session sucked but i tried so hard to complete it
All together it was about 1944 calories (sigh) with a net of 1429

"Quite terrible" is when I eat half a kilo of chocolate (2800 kcal) and two family sized bags of chips (another 2000 or so) on top of my normal meals, then collapse on the couch :p 1944 all in while going to the gym is not a great day but it won´t actually make you gain weight. So pick yourself up again, don´t worry about it and make tomorrow count!
