Di's Daily Diary of Maintaining

Not sure what happened...took my walk with my dog, like many other days. It was so nice and cool, that I decided to jog part of it. It felt good and my breathing was strong. I do some jogging on the treadmill, so it wasn't anything new, except of course, the surface was different. I was fine...got home and hopped in the shower to get ready for my shopping trip. While getting dressed...BAM...all of a sudden my lower back was in extreme pain! Took a couple of ibuprofen and thought it would pass. It didn't. All day while shopping I was experiencing pain, esp. while standing. I was fine sitting in the car. My hubby says it was the jogging. What do you all think? I didn't even jog very much!

ON the positive side, I bought some nice things for fall...all on sale, of course!

My back feels very stiff and sore this AM, but better than last night when I went to bed. I just wonder how it will feel after working on my feet all day. Don't know if I will be able to work out or not. Might have to rest it a couple of days?

Just as I feared, despite taking a large dose of ibuprofen this AM, my back is feeling worse now that I have been on my feet all morning:( It feels like a truck has run over it! I don't know what else to try...the pain meds aren't really helping.
 
I don't think it has to do with the jogging necessarily.

I threw my back out one day bending over - just something that I did a dozen times a day or more. I wound up having to go to the doctor to get muscle relaxants and spent the next 3 days on a heating pad. Sometimes it just happens. It sucks, but it happens.

Thanks for your input, Kara...and you're right...it sucks! Yesterday was rough...especially after I have been sitting for a while, then get up. OW, very stiff and painful! I am going to call my doctor today and see if I can get a few muscle relaxants to get me thru the worst of this. I will be on my feet all day again at school...all the students will be coming in the library to check out books. It gets kinda crazy!

After school today is my son's first cross country meet of the season. Luckily it is at our local park, so I won't have to drive far. It's suppose to be a beautiful day, with temps in mid 70's, so the runners should be somewhat comfortable. We have had years where that first meet was hotter than hades...in the 90's, and runners puking and passing out everywhere! And these are high school kids that are in shape! I just hope my son does well. He suffers from allergies and his breathing has been a little off lately...I think we are having an early fall.

Thursday weigh-in: 118.4

My back is still really bothering me. In fact, it seems a little worse...I was hoping it would get better. Of course, it is hard to rest those muscles when I am on my feet all day at my job! I've been trying to work out some, and there isn't much pain then. It's more painful when I first get up and stand and try to walk...or bending over. OUCH!

I am also still not getting enough sleep...which just makes me feel even more blah! I won't even be able to sleep in on Saturday...son has a cross country meet out of town and will need to leave very early...like 5 AM ish! Oh, the things we do for our kids...gotta love em!

Well, done with my rant...would welcome any advice for my back or my extreme tiredness!!!!

Ouch, Di. My sympathies on the back pain. And on the lack of sleep as well. I"m working on that myself right now. Trying to get to bed at a reasonable hour just isn't working lately - too much going on.

Hang in there! :)
 
I finally called the doctor and they did give me some muscle relaxants. But, I can only take them at bedtime, otherwise I am the walking dead! So, for now, it's suffer the pain during the day, but maybe get some sleep at night...just not enough hours of it!
Just glad that tomorrow is Friday...then a 3 day weekend!
 
Here I am up before 5 AM...ridiculous time of day! Getting my son ready to meet his bus for the out of town cross country meet. Hubby and I will head down a little later. The weather should be perfect for running and watching the running, LOL!

My back is still sore, maybe 10% better...and now, for some crazy reason, I have developed a very sore blister on my big toe. Don't know why...I use the same running/walking shoes that I have been using since April. It was so sore it kept waking my up in the night whenever my toe bumped into anything! Why is my body falling apart all of a sudden??!!!

Sunday weigh-in: 118.4

I am pleased not to have gained, since my diet has been HORRIBLE the past two days! I've had soda, potato chips (not the baked ones!), jimmy john sandwich, and ice cream. YIKES! It sounds and looks worse now that I have actually typed this!

I had another one of those weird food dreams last night...probably because I was feeling guilty for eating so much the last couple of days! In the dream, I was at a wedding reception, and there was this large dessert buffet, and I was out of control taking some of everything and stuffing it all in my mouth...I could actually feel my dress getting tight as I was eating! It all felt so real...was so glad to wake up and realize I was dreaming!
Does anyone else ever experience these type of dreams?

It's kinda a relief to go back to school today...I find that I eat less when I am working and staying busy! The long weekend was brutal! I tried to stay active, but I also ate more calories than I should have:(

My back is about 50% better now...still popping ibuprofen during the day, and a muscle relaxant at bedtime. I did get a little more sleep the past couple of days, but still do not feel like I am well rested...

Well, it's gonna be a stressful couple of weeks at work. The students are all taking these special tests in the computer lab, and I am in charge of setting them up and monitoring it all. There always seems to be technical problems and other issues!

Thursday weigh-in: 117.2

The past couple of days have been very busy and stressful at school. At least they have gone by quickly! Today I should be more in my normal routine...I hope! Then, next week, more testing...and the cycle begins again! I guess I should be grateful...I am too busy to snack!

Today is school, then meeting, and then off to get my hair cut and colored. Will be late when I finally get home...so will be a day off from working out. I know I will get some exercise just doing all the running around...but it doesn't feel the same. I love the feeling in my body after a 4+ mile workout on my treadmill! (A year ago I would not be caught dead saying something like this!)

Isn't that amazing ... I feel the same way sometimes. Who is this person who LIKES to work out (or at least likes the way she feels after).

Sounds like you're going to have a good day, though. I love getting my hair done. There's something so relaxing about having someone else play with my hair and I just have to sit there and sip a glass of wine! :)

WOW! I need to get my hair done at your salon...I have been offered water and soda...but never wine! LOL! I agree...it's so relaxing to just sit in that chair and let my hairdresser do her magic! Sometimes I almost fall asleep!

Not really sure why I lost...I feel like I have been eating like a pig!:piggy:
Yesterday we went to my son's cross country meet, and I ate mexican out for lunch...grilled chicken tacos and chips. THen I had a cheeseburger and baked lays for supper! Maybe all that salt hasn't caught up with me yet...should be bloated as heck from that food! Well, not gonna complain about it. Scales will probably go up next time!

Hitting some biking trails with husband and son this morning...should be a beautiful day!

The bike ride was nice...we ended up going around 15 miles. Would have like to have done more, but we ran out of time...too many other chores awaiting us all at home!

Back to school today...more testing in the computer lab. Hope everything goes smoothly for a change! Then, after school, gonna run errands, and while in town go by and get my flu shot. I get one every year...I do work in a high risk occupation...exposed to all those kids germs! One year I did not get one since the shot was scarce, and I was SO sick I thought I was gonna die. I kid you not. I am a firm believer in this! I haven't decided whether, if it becomes available, to get the H1N1 vaccine. Need to hear more about this before I make a decision.

This week is moving incredibly slow...it's only Wednesday! Today will be a long, stressful day at work, so probably a good day to come home and work out on the treadmill....walk/run off all of my frustrations!

I have not slept well at all the past two nights...and I am starting to feel very tired and draggy. Tonight I will try to get to bed earlier...but it seems I never actually make that goal. Not even sure why...

Gosh Di, I agree with you. This week is incredibly loooooong for some reason. So annoying.

I took an Advil PM last night and slept like a log. I don't like to take them much, though, because I always wake up groggy. I'm still trying to get going today ... coffee is my friend! :)
 
Thursday weigh-in: 116.8...I'll take it! Below my safety zone is better than above! Gives me a little wiggle room!

I wish the weekend would hurry up and get here! It should at least be Friday today:( No school holidays until Columbus Day...another whole month!

Well, I am up at 5 AM this morning...more cross country action today! I don't mind getting up for my son and his activities, but I have not been resting very well, so I feel groggy and even a little nauseous this morning, for some reason! Hope I am not coming down with something...lots of germs floating around school already t his year! I will try to eat some breakfast after a while...will either feel better or worse.

Should be a nice day weatherwise to run...and watch the runners.

Can't believe I lost another pound! I have been eating tons! My husband thinks I have been working out too much, however; and since I am exhausted today, I won't do my usual work out. Instead, I will be doing some housecleaning...which isn't nearly as much fun as the treadmill! What did I just say???!!!! Wow, has my attitude changed about exercise!

I mad it thru the cross country trip yesterday....actually felt pretty good until mid afternoon on the ride home. I think I was a little dehydrated...had a headache and felt wiped out. I did not drink my usual amount of H20, since we were out in the boonies with just porta potties, and then in the car. We stopped and got me a bottle of water and I drank that and took some tylenol. By the time I got home, I felt ready to take a walk with the dog. Won't be doing that today...it is rainy very heavy with thunder and lightening right now. Guess that will make it easier to stay in and clean the house!
