Beans stir fried with tofu & egg

Hi morning..

How do you know how much is the calorie for the food mentioned above? Am sick yesterday afternoon so no workout today :-( so must really look after my diet??

As to your stir fried beans with tofu n tempe? U just fry them dry dry with olive oil? Beans as in long beans, french beans, is the the one?

Morning Taz,

I did indicate the calories at the side of the food, the numbers are calories...lol

For the beans, I prefer french beans but sometimes I use long beans.

For the recipe

You fry some sliced onions, some garlic and some sliced chilis in olive oil.

Then you put in the beans and tempe and tahu ( you can but them in dices)

Put in a small bunch of ikan bilis if you want.

Optional also ( jintan halus & biji sawi )

Then when all is cooked, break 1 or 2 eggs, mix it all up.

I just eat it like that. My husband & my most favourite vege mix.

The other one that I love but my husband dont really like is

boiled sawi

You put fair amount of water in the pot to make a soup. Put in garlic, sliced onions and sliced chilis. Put in a bunch of ikan bilis and then put in the sawi.

I really love love this!

Sometimes I put in bee hoon and my kids love the bee hoon soup, well ofcourse I always try to cheat them into eating the vege also. lol!

Im 500 gm away from my last updated weight since I put on the extra weight while I was unwell.

Thanks for the recipe..will try sounds yummy esp when fried with egg..:))

I know lah that the numbers you indicated were the calories but what I meant was, how did you know the calorie content for this for instance

Fish & Chips from Swenson - without the chips 359

I mean whenever I eat out, I don't see the number of calories of such food as you know in Singapore hardly any restaurants would show the calorie ranges of the food that they served apart from McDonalds..so that was why I was curious..

I will definitely try the tempe recipe..

Good on ya for burning the calories on the machine..:-D

haha, sorry... yes, singapore usually dont have. i check on the internet. recipezaar or onmyplate. there quite a number of sites, the number of calories may varies between the usa or singapore on how they cook but the basic things are in there and should not differ vastly for calories.

I was reading a tread on the forum about elliptical machines showing calories burnt and actually its not accurate. When I entered on the internet the speed and time, also my weight and age... the amount of calories burnt was actually 328 instead of 155. Thats like doubled. They were saying that calories burnt differ with each person's weight... wow, my husband will be happy to hear this, he has been whining about the amount of calories burnt when he do the elliptical.

Hearing this news is a real motivator. Im happy I actually burnt more than what I thought I did. Like this, I will try my best to do the elliptical for up to 30 mins. Right now im at 15 mins tops at 19 KM/h.

You know, im quite happy I can talk to you about all these. Usually, I talk to my husband about it until he told me to shut up coz he cant stand hearing me talk about weight loss then recently he was so interested in losing weight and we started discussing about weight loss again. lol!

I finally googled some of the stuff you put up for your recipe and I know what it is now! :D

Tahu = Tofu? At least that's what it said
tempe- soy bean product
ikan bilis= anchovies
jintan halus- Cumin?
biji sawi- mustard

If I got those right then you're recipe sounds delicious :) Well except for the ikan bilis...I don't much like those. What kind of beans do you use?

lol!! that is so cute! You mean google can translate malay also? Wow!

Tahu = Beancurd Tofu
tempe- soy bean product ( I think you have this in the USA, I saw it on the Weight loss show the other day and they cooked tempe, its also called tempe in English. Its very healthy)
ikan bilis= anchovies (dried)
jintan halus- Cumin seed
biji sawi- mustard seed

Yes, you are right. I like to use french beans but sometimes I use long beans but I prefer the french beans more. If you have the cumin or mustard seeds, just put pepper. Oh, ya, salt is important for taste! lol!! I didnt write that on.

Sometimes, I changed the tempe tofu to sliced potato. Also splendid!!

Ive tried it with other vege but i still prefer these mix.

oh yes, I do have another splendid vege recipe.

Its CHAP CHOY!

You need to use

Sliced carrots
Sliced Shitake mushrooms
Sliced baby corn
Snow peas
Sliced Fishcaked
Boiled quail eggs (optional)
Sliced Cabbage
Shelled prawns ( optional)
Garlic
Salt
pepper
oil
oyster sause

If you need to thicken the sauce, mix corn flour with water ( just a pinch of flour) then add when all is cooked, pour over the pan.

fry the garlic in the pan and add the salt, pepper and oyster sauce. Then add the vege that takes longer to cook like carrots then prawns then cabbage then baby corn , peas, shitake musroom. and add the rest in.

Sometimes I even put in the egg tofu but these are delicate so need to put in last and need to be extra careful.

MY Husband really love the chap choy! I can eat this all day long! Really tasty!

early morning i was starving, so its 3 eggs scrambled. eggs were so tiny, 2 just wont do. 190

breakfast later
4 fish finger 189
4 potato wedges 63

snack
90 calorie bar

Lunch
1 bowl sambal goreng udang 380
90 calorie bar

I must say I took a full bowl as I really love this vege mix! I ate it while its still so hot!

30 mins Elliptical for 573 burned
I went to level 5 so I can feel more burn. well, I feel this slight pain over my right foot which is the same pain I got when I first started the elliptical. Im going to keep on and see if it dissapear like before.

Truly understand what you meant abt talking to someone else abt weight..lucky you in a way you got yr hubby to talk and understand..well i dun really talk much abt my weight loss issues or strategies with my hub cos he is forever slim type..but i do talk from time to time abt exercises all that..but not really in detail..i need i will start a diary but am not sure how to go around to start on a diary. Let me check around to see how do I start a diary..thanks cybermama, u just inspired me to start one..:))

I initially wanted nothing to do with tofu... just not appetizing to look at. I'm finding though, that it takes onthe flavor of everything around it so well, that you can use it in many recipes, as a way to add protein, without cholesterol.

Oh wow! Great that you will start a diary, you should. I always track back what I ate when I hit a platue so I can find a pattern for what works for me.

I totally agree with you 100 percent reluctantcabbie!

I actually hated Tofu and found it so weird when I see my Indonesian maid eating the Tofu in abundance. She can just eat the Tofu by itself fried or steamed with rice. Rice is their staple. One day, I just took one from her and tasted it, not bad! The more I ate, the more I begun liking it and I started to do a lot of things with Tofu after starting my weight loss journey as I read that it is high in Protein.

One of my most favourite is this but I dont recommend it to be eaten often as its fried.

You blend tofu with shelled prawns
add pepper & salt
you can also put in coriander leaves but thats optional.

When everything is well blended, use a spoon to scoop a small portion and form a ball of the paste to look like a small pattie.

Beat an egg.

Dip the pattie in the egg, and then fry it.

Reluctant Cabbie,

My husband's current weight is your start weight. He wants some tips from you on the exercise you do to loose your weight.

Right now, I do have an elliptical but it has a weight limit and he is over that limit. He sometimes try to get on the machine but I would nag him about it. He is thinking to join me with Turbo Jam at home.

Do share ur success story.

Well, my diary is here
http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weight-loss-diary/24548-what-heck-might-well-start-my-own.html

But there are a lot of things that went on before hand. The first thing I did was start drinking lots fo water, and cutting out pretty much any drink with sugar in it (skim milk being the one exception). Then it was a little cutting down here and there. Once I had lost a little bit of weight, I started bicycling.

This led to the next phase, quitting smoking, because I couldn't ride very far without lung problems. When I quit the cigarettes, I started working out at the gym, doing weights. Right now I bicycle about 60 -80 miles (95 -130 Km?) each week and work out 3 days a week with weights. I also started tracking calories in fitday.

Your husband can definitely do it. I have good days and bad days, but I'm having more good than bad, so it works out.

Reluctant Cabbie,
Thank you so much for te information.
Will show my husband the info and let him read through ur diary for tips. Do you think what exercise I do, he can benefit also? I heard that from how the female body response to exercise is not much different from men?

Taz,
Ive been meaning to ask you. What race are you Taz? You look like most of my family members. My dad is Pakistani-Arab and my mum is Indian-Javanese. We have families in these countries still, well except Javanese, they all move to Singapore. I do have in Kerala, India. Abu Dhabi and North Nazimabad in Pakistan. They sometimes come to Singapore also but not that frequent. I think you are the same as me. My husband is Malay. My husband's family dont have mix marriages. I guess that you must be either Indian, Arab or Pakistani... or mix of eithers or all.

Hi Cybermama,

Yes I am more or less like you or your background..I am actually Indian muslim..but from both sides of India. My mom's side is from the Southern India while my dad's background/family is from the Northern Indian..Exactly where in those 2 parts of India, I am not exactly sure but am born and bred in Singapore...My husband is Malay Javanese. While my mother in law has a bit of chinese/japanese mix. So that is why my husband and mother in law look like Chinese..While me, an Indian..:)) Got the kids pretty confused at times esp my son.

30 mins elliptical at level 5 - aprox 575 burned.

I hate living in singapore, we all live and very very close to one another that when someone gets sick, everyone gets sick also.

Well, I got a sorethroat and my nose is running and inflammed. I really need to get Vitamin C supplements for myself and kids also.

The 2 person brings germs back are usually my husband and my 1st child. My husband works and my 1st child goes to a kindergarten. A few times the kindergarten almost have no kids coming in as the virus spread so fast within one another that every child was sick. Even the teachers, and the bus driver. How funny is that. Its usually a virus nowadays. When someone is sick, its a virus, bacterial infectiin is no longer common, virus is and the doctors say, the virus are much more stronger nowadays.

My 1st child is still having his cough and runny nose, my 2nd son is all better, except just now he says he has a sorethroat. my baby is getting much better, my 3rd one is ok. I get very nervous when they get some kind of infection. At my home, its almost like a clinic, I call each child and there is a queue for medicine and the ventoline puff & preventors. Why, cause when one kid is sick, usually all will get, so its either we are treating or preventing... lol

Gonna have another spring cleaning again. Everytime we get an infection, thats what we do... clean everything with dettol. Call me paranoid but really, you dont know how it is to have 4 kids sick & cranky until you experience it.
