So yesterday my ex informed me (after I told him about Charlie Murphy, then he said he spent the weekend sitting around watching movies, then I teased him about his exciting life, then he said well I'm not in the best of moods because...) he broke up, no, cut off all communications with his online girlfriend of 6 months. I was kind of shocked because, to my dismay, I had learned way too much about the dynamics of their relationship though correspondence with both of them. And I really thought, I really did, that she was going to move to Cali and they were going to be a couple, and that I was going to go out to dinner with them for shits and giggles. HAHA! I think I just really enjoy being in awkward situations and NOT feeling awkward. Like, I basically enjoy acting the opposite of what's expected of me, especially if what's expected of me is negative. Anyway, I was happy for them and thought it would last. But I was also very very curious how one starts and maintains a long distance relationship without ever meeting someone.
Seriously, if he wasn't my ex boyfriend and was just a buddy, I'd sit him down and be like, "Bitch, puhleaze, can ya holla at me??? HOW the hell do ya have a long distance girlfriend you love, whom you've never met?!?!?!" If he was just a buddy, I'd ask about virtual sex, what kind of arguments one could possibly have, do they use webcams? You know--I'm an anthropologist, I'm curious about cultures, especially our techy culture that creates and allows stuff like this to happen between 2 people. It's like, how us all on here like each other and are supportive friends, telling each other shit we won't even tell our own mother, like it's the easiest thing in the world to understand. But since he is my ex who dumped me for this girl 6 months ago, it's scathingly inappropriate. It's inappropriate for me to even mention it anywhere, but I can't help but wonder about online, long-distance relationships.
