Hi,

I've started March 23 and lost the 1st week: 4,7 kg. But the last 3 days, i'm on a plateau (allready?) this morning i even gained 400 gr. So i'm a bit disappointed.

PinkVirgo: I don't know if you're allowed to eat cheese for breakfast? I ate this morning: Cottage cheese, apple (little pieces), sweetner and cinnamon.
Hmmm .....delicious.

Wish you all the (cohen) best!

Glad you have started niracca! Sounds like you had a good first week. In the first 4 weeks especially, your weight loss will be a little unpredictable, so don't get too concerned - fluid in the body can go up and down. 4.7kgs in the first week is very good!! Just wait for the first month to give yourself an idea of what is happening for you. In this plan you don't really plateau. You may have a bunch of days where nothing moves or you even go up, you lose more in the first month, and then each month is roughly the same - it may vary a little, but it doesn't decrease as much as other diets. Good luck to you!!

Tash*: sensational loss!! So impressed!! And you must just be so excited. This was what you wanted and it is all happening so fast. Keep us informed about the refeed and how it goes for you, won't you?

Peaches: Don't know how to stop the KFC cravings. Deciding not to think about it definitely won't help! Maybe this one is just sheer determination on your part. Feel for you having to study for an exam - they are often times of stress. But you can do it. Just stay focused and you will be so pleased with yourself when you get there. Go for it Peaches!!

I had to work yesterday afternoon, and ended up with a mixed up schedule that meant I had a late lunch, and therefore a very late dinner. A shame, because I was wanting an early night. Anyway it showed up on the scales this morning, but I know it will be fine again tomorrow. The sleep bit is so important.

Have a good day everyone,
lizzi

Sounds like everyone had a good and motivational weekend. Congratulations to all!

Someone just sent me an electronic version of Jamie Oliver's cookbook which I was reading through. Now my stomach is growling - I am such a masochist! There are 2 recipes in the book which could easily be modified for Cohen's, which I was surprised about - if anyone would like either, please let me know! There is Steak with ginger and garlic and Bok Choy or a Curry recipe that can go with either fish or chicken.

I am firing up for the home stretch now - only 6 more kilos until I can order my re-feed so I am pretty excited! 13.5 kilos in 5 weeks has blown me away! I am wearing size 10 pants today, which is the first time in a long time. But you know what is weird, I have lost nearly 50cms from my body, I am wearing totally different, smaller clothes and I know I look completely different, but apart from my (wonderfully supportive, amazing) husband, NO ONE HAS COMMENTED ABOUT MY WEIGHT LOSS AT ALL!!! What is with that? I am stunned, but not really concerned, since I am doing this for myself and no-one else! Has anybody else had this experience?

They're just jealous!!!!
I know I look completely different, but apart from my (wonderfully supportive, amazing) husband, NO ONE HAS COMMENTED ABOUT MY WEIGHT LOSS AT ALL!!! What is with that? Don't worry about it Moneypenny, I have had similar experiences, and have come to the conclusion that they are either a) jealous as all hell, or b) just not that interested (selfish buggers!) The important thing is that you are doing this for you, noone else, and I am sure that you will be getting more general comments about your entire personality, body language as your confidence grows from losing the weight! I have also had the problem that I completely changed my hair in the early days, and now everyone I see goes "Wow, you look so different, I love your hair!" And then about 1/2 and hour later they are usually like "Have you lost weight?" (I should have left the hair until the end I think!!) 13.5 in 5 weeks is an amazing loss Moneypenny, I think it takes a bit of time to 'ease into' feeling like a size 10 person, I am still struggling with that concept that I'm now a size ten as it has just happened so fast!!!
Would love to get a copy of the Jamie Oliver recipes, I love him!! I have been using a 'spice rub' of his, which I found in one of my sisters cookbooks, is really yummy, I use it all the time to sprinkle on my meat, can't remember exactly what's in it, something like curry leaves, coriander, cardamon, cinnamon, and a few other things all ground up in a spice grinder, see if you can find it in the recipes you've got - very yummy!

Have actually been thinking that perhaps my recently more improved loss might have something to do with that I've been eating a lot more chilli/curry type stuff lately? Any thoughts?

Lizzi- thanks for your encouragement, will definitely keep you posted with the refeed!! I can't believe how much you have lost - was just having a detailed look at your ticker - that is amazing!!! Go girl!! You'll be there before you know it, and what an amazing accomplishment it will be!!! :)

Hope everyone has a fantastic week, be strong!!

Scales are moving

Way to go Tash; awesome weight loss. And thanks everyone else for sharing your weight loss. Keeps me motivated.

Into day 7 of Cohens. :)

I am still amazed that the sight of chocolate cakes, pastries and other goodies which would have made me drool in days past no longer upsets me. Had to attend a work function this morning, and I was content to eat my yogurt for breakfast while everyone else feasted on pastries.

Don't know how the program does it, but I like my new-found ability to focus on the eating plan.

Does this ability to remain unaffected by "undesirable" food last throughout the program, or do I have to keep vigilant about some lurking danger after a few weeks into the program. Any insights appreciated.

Have decided not to track my weight loss obsessively. I'll just focus on my eating plan, drink loads of water (2-3 ltires a day seems normal now) and let my body where it thinks I need to lose weight. I trust it does know what is required.

Hopeful1 - I have the same thing with being able to be so focused on what I'm eating, that everything else just doesn't seem appealing. I'm on week 3 now, and the only thing that really makes me regret Cohen, is walking past a bakery and smelling fresh bread cooking. Mmmmm! But so far - no secret cravings!

I'm interested to know..... Cos this will give all of us new comers an idea of what to expect.
How much weight had everyone lost at their 1st weigh in at the Clinic (ie, end of month 1)?[/

Smiling from Ear to Ear!!

Hi to all ya beautiful Cohen's gals!! :D

Each & every post has been amazing to catch up on, well done to everyone of you!! You've worked hard & deserve these great results!!!!! :D

Reading all the posts always makes a smile appear on my face, SO great to kick back to in the evening & read!

ridiculous - In my first month of Cohen's I dropped (like a bag of spuds... hehehe :D ) - 7.5kg (just over the first month now..)

I'm so wrapped with that!!!!

Moneypenny & Tash* - I too have not had much said to me about my weight loss. I have been getting frowning faces & strange looks from people I know. Only 2 people have mentioned my weight. I guess some people don't want to hear about YOUR success... ???? - Some people are so annoyed at themselves for not doing anything about the thing that's making them so miserable - they bury their heads & never bring up the subject. Some are jealous. Some are not wanting to pry or seem to forward. I don't know really....it's a hard one  !! I remember seeing my friend after 2 weeks of not seeing her & I just about leaped at her!!!!! I was so happy & proud of her & her success!! She looks amazing & I think it's just fitting she should be noticed for such an outstanding effort.... but everyone's different & they react differently - which is a pity because everyone likes acknowledgement on a 'job' well done.

Sorry.... enough of my "philosophy" babble..... hope that's spelt right!!

Today I went to get new work wear...SIZE 10!!!!!!! They fit just LURVE - LY!!:D :D
I cannot believe how quick & effective this program is. I keep thinking someone is playing an awful prank on me (switching the clothes tags!!) But they certainly fit... I think my mind needs to get around the fact that I've lost so much so quickly!! :)

Tash* - I have been getting into the chilli & curry's lately too. I once read (don't know how true but..) that eating Chilli dishes helps to speed up metabolism. I'm not sure, but I LOVE chilli now & curry!!

Pinkvirgo - How did you go at the Christening? Was thinking about you XXX

hopeful1 - Day 7, down!!!! So proud of you! Isn't it the best feeling...control, that is!!!!!!!! Keep up the g8 work, you deserve this.

lizzi - Well done on moving that ticker!!!! I was impressed that you have been so organised & made up a chart, not only is that a clever thing to do (& motivational) but it will serve a purpose long after you have finished the Cohen's program - You can always go back & see how much time, effort, committment & determination actually went into you, by you! - You're AWESOME, well done XXXX

OMG!!!! - I think I had better stop typing!!!!

XXXXXXX

Keep up the G8 Work guys!!

The elusive rate of weight-loss

Ridiculous - In my first month I lost 11kg. I have just passed the 5-week mark and have lost a total of 13.5kg so far. I think the fact that I am drinking the tea each night has probably helped a bit, since it certainly is keeping me regular.

Who else is drinking the tea? I feel my body really needs the boost (for regularity etc) but I am a bit concerned about what will happen when I get off the program and stop drinking the tea... I have heard that the body can become "hooked" on laxatives as they can make the bowel lazy. Do you think that 2-months of use could cause my body to become addicted? I have tried having days off the tea but when I have done that, there has been absolutely NO movement whatsoever, which isn't very pleasant. Any thoughts or other people's stories would be appreciated.

Interested ??

Hi
I've been reading your posts and this Cohens sounds like its working for you. Can anyone give me an idea of what types of foods you are or are not allowed to eat? I've read the website but am still not sure its right for me. BUT, all your results are certainly attracting me to it !! :)

Bye
Kiki

the tea?

moneypenny 11 kg in the first month. Awesome.

What tea are you referring to?

Have not had problems with regular bowel movements yet. (fingers crossed).

Bad, bad bad Minxy

:(

Hi everyone - I can't believe what a fool I am. I was going along just fine and then yesterday i just gave in and ate crap???? WTF is wrong me?
I'm such a fool for doing it.

I'm totally back on the wagon today but I'm not sure how this will affect my weightloss. My first weigh-in is on Monday.

aaarrrggghhhh!

The Tea

"The Tea" is Nutri-Lim Extra Strength Dieter's Tea. It is basically Senna herbs and I drink one cup an evening after dinner. It works - big time - but you do get some pains/cramps in the gut. "All for the sake of beauty", as my Mum used to say!

I have tried to attach a picture of the box, in case you are interested in getting hold of some. Don't know if it will work, though...

Oh my gosh!!

Hi guys!!

Well, this is a positive post indeed! I hopped on the scales for my weekly self weigh-in this morning.... and I've lost 2.8 kilos in the last week!!! What the?!?! I can't quite believe it. 800 grams more and I'll be in the 80's! Aaaaggghhh!!! :D
Anyway, there's only two possible scenarios for this huge increase of weight loss (remembering last week I only lost 500g, the week before 700g)... and they are:

 1. I switched around my meals on a couple of days - ie. had breakfast from a Meal 2 Option, had lunch from a Meal 3 Option, and dinner from Meal 1. But only did this on 2 or 3 days.
 2. I started using 'the tea' and had it twice this past week.
Personally, I think it's the tea.
MONEYPENNY - I too think I really need the boost provided by 'the tea'. I wasn't regular at all without it, even when taking fibre each day, and found that when it was time to go it was rather painful. I haven't yet decided to have the tea on a daily basis, but definitely think I will continue to use it, probably every second day. I only get mild cramps from the tea and I'm definitely willing to put up with them more so than the alternative (which was far more painful!). I know they say that laxatives can make your bowel lazy and your body becomes accustomed to having that extra help. But let's face it, we're not eating much fibre at all on this program and once we're finished re-feed we'll be able to eat more fibre therefore that should provide enough help for our bodies to not need the tea any longer. At least that's what I'm hoping for!

HOPEFUL1 – The tea we’re referring to is one you buy at Health Food Shops. It’s called Slimmers Tea and comes in a green box. You mentioned in an earlier post that you find it easy to focus on the eating plan. It’s weird isn’t it?? That even though it would be nice to eat something yummy, you have no true desire to eat it… That’s all thanks to the program correcting the hormones. I believe it’s the Serotonin – which controls the craving for food, especially sugars and starches, and when the serotonin is stimulated to higher levels it creates a remarkable sense of well being. Great isn’t it?!?!

I CAN I WILL - Thank you so much for thinking of me whilst I was at the Christening on Sunday. I managed to stay true to Cohens (minus the ability to weigh my food portions) and only had lettuce, cucumber and some roast beef. And with my weight loss this week, it appears that I mustn't have done too badly with my visual weighing as that meal doesn't appear to have affected my loss.

MINXY - I've yet to fall off the wagon so I can't give you much guidance there. I say just go with the flow and forge ahead with the program. Perhaps if you're worried you'll re-lapse and cave in again, try to analyse what made you eat the crap... or what made you feel like eating it. Perhaps there was an emotional trigger behind it all, and if you discover what it was, the next time it rears its ugly head you can beat it back with a Cohen's Willpower Stick!!

WASHINGTONKL – Hi there! You asked what kinds of foods we can eat. Some people may think our options are limited, others may think the opposite. Basically each meal consists of meat and veg. However there are only certain types of meat and certain types of veges you can eat. You also get a daily fruit and daily crispbread allowance. The program is neither a low-carb type diet nor a high-protein type diet. For more info it’s worth visiting your local clinic for a presentation of the program. Don’t stress, they won’t try to sign you up then and there… there’s no hard selling involved. It’s an info session designed to give you the info you need so that you can go away and make an informed decision as to whether the program is right for you or not. You’d be hard pressed finding anyone on this forum who would advise you against the program, that’s for sure!!

RIDICULOUS – I lost 7kg exactly in my first month. They say something like 70% of people lose between 7 and 10 kilos.

For those of you not getting comments on your weight loss, it’s probably very much true what you’ve all thought about it. Other people (especially other women who dearly want to lose weight but not put in any effort to do it) are either jealous, don’t want to blow up your ego or don’t want to seem too forward. I’ve even noticed people’s faces look disappointed and saddened when they've asked “How have you done it” and I've replied “I’m on a program”. So many just want you to say “nothing” or “Here, try these miracle pills”, but sadly as we all know there are no miracles. I think Cohen’s is the closest thing to it though!!

Anyway, I babble on don’t I?!?! Everyone else I’ve not mentioned keep up the great work. Stay strong, stay true and stay in touch!

Hi everyone!

I am now on day 10 of the Cohans diet and feel great i am currently 100kg and my goal weight as i am fairly tall is 67 - 70kg in my avitar is a picture of my sister who is also doing the cohans with me and has 83Kg to lose, she started her diet yesterday and with her is my beautiful 3 year old daughter Jessica who who only needs to lose some cutness :). i have been having a quick read of all your posts and your all doing so amazing! well done :) i hope i can have just as much success as all of you have/are.

Just a couple of questions if i may?
that Nutri-Lim Extra Strength Dieter's Tea, are we allowed to use things like that as i had also found a similar thing but thought it may not be allowed?! Also do any of you lovely cohans dieters have any great recipes to share? i am starting to get a bit bored of the same kind of meals every day?

Dear All

Well I am on Day 3 of Cohens and so far going well, I have had to face some pretty challenging social situations and managed to resist temptation.

I had a work lunch yesterday, with this buffet of delicious smelling food, but I just ate my little box of Cohen's food. And last night went to drinks for a friend who is going back to Oz, and resisted the hot chips at the bar! Amazing! Then went home and cooked my chicken and vegies.

I have been a bit tired but feel more alert than I have for a long time. Not that hungry even though my consultant said that I might have hunger pains the first three days. And since I gave up sugar on the Detox I have not had any headaches at all! Yeah!

Well done everyone on your losses. Moneypenny, interesting about how people have not commented on your weight loss, maybe they don't know what to say?

Tash, congrats on the size 10 pants, hope to be there soon myself! Think I need to lose about 7.5 kilos to be a size 10 again.

Minxy, don't get too upset about your slip, we are all human, and just think how far you have come. Everyday on this diet feels like an achievement!

Pink Virgo, congrats on latest results, think you have something re: changing meals. Must try that too!

Anyway wish me luck for the next few days on Cohens!

Miss Kathy

Goal Weight - 57kg
Current Weight - 65kg
Weight lost - Don't know yet!

a slip, not a fall

Don't feel too bad Minxy. Just find out why you did whatever, and figure out how to avoid the temptation.

Faced real temptation yesterday. Colleague left some really nice chocs on my desk that she bought on holiday. The sight and smell was too much of a temptation.

Unwrapped the choc and had it in my mouth before sanity prevailed. As the sweet taste hit my taste buds, I spat the choc out.

I have a huge imaginary baseball bat to smash up undesired food items. If I imagine the food as all smashed up and awful-looking, I don't eat it. So I smashed up the remaining chocs mentally. (imagination is a wonderful thing). And distributed the rest of the chocs among my colleagues.

The temptation is real. The decision to keep to the eating plan is essential.

I have also taken to eating lunch with others who bring their own sandwiches as there is less temptation to be unfaithful to the program. Sometimes the sight and smell of my favourite foods can be such a challenge. Don't want to place myself in situations where I test my resolve.

Question: How do the rest of you deal with food triggers / temptations?

Thanks to everyone who posted their 1st month's weight loss - it is very promising!
Hopeful - this is how I get away from temptations:
I have pretty much put a large slice of my life on hold by doing this program - I'm not going out for coffee with the girls, not going out to dinners, not going out to lunch. I know I could do all of those things, but my theory is that if I make this as easy as I can for me, do it 110% correctly, I will be able to do this in the shortest amount of time. So I am taking an immediate sacrifice for some long term benefits. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but I live alone, am single, and have no family within about 3000kms, so I am the only one who can motivate me, so I need to make this as easy and temptation free as I can.
Even on days when I've had a really crap day at work and could easily eat some chocolate etc, I'm so organised that I have everything I need for dinner at home and have no need (or excuse!) to go to the supermarket. I avoid temptation, and take all temptation out.
This works for me, because in the past, the time that I am the "baddest" with food, is when I'm home alone, or out with friends. Work, functions etc aren't my weakness.

That is a little long-winded! Sorry! But so far it has worked! So far... Day 19 over and not 1 slip - not even a tiny one!

Great work to Miss Kath, and everyone else that has just started!
Can't wait to catch up with everyone tomorrow (this is my new addiction!)

Hi everyone...
Just popped in to say hi and catch up on everyone achievements.... woohoo
I jumped on the scales this morning... been 7 days and have lost 3.7kg. and 16cm all up. Not bad I'm thinking....impressed that I have stayed on the diet this long.....

Minxy... don't worry too much if people haven't noticed... think of it this way... they may have not had an issue with your weight and didn't see you as over weight or to them it's your personality they love not what you look like... As long as you know and it's only you you have to impress and dress for then if no one else notices then never mind...

yours in cyberspace
