THE ONLY WAY TO WIN

It takes a little courage
And a little self-control,
And some determination,
If you want to reach your goal.
It takes a deal of striving
And a firm and stern-set chin,
No matter what the battle,
If you really want to win.

There's no easy path to glory,
There's no rosy road to fame.
Life, however we may view it
Is no simple parlour game;
But it prizes call for fighting,
For endurance and for grit;
For a rugged disposition
And a don't-know-when-to-quit.

You must take a blow or give one,
You must risk and you must lose,
And expect that in the struggle
You will suffer from the bruise.
But you must not wince or falter
If a fight you once begin;
Be a woman and face the battle
That's the only way to win.

This was sent to me by a beautiful consultant in WA who lost alot of weight on Cohens herself. Mel you beautiful girl keep being you, hey Mel remember the thousand camel fleas from 40 nearly there maybe we should wish them for your friend ha ha.

Have to go but to everyone keep up the great work and stay focused.
Hugs from cold and rainy Canberra. ;)

PinkVirgo, what do you think?

Great to see so many posts. And everyone is very encouraging and we can all get support from that. It is great to have such support shared around on this forum. It is great to be encouraging, and I see a lot of people being very determined. This is all excellent stuff.

There is one perspective about what you are saying PinkVirgo that I'd like to explore.Tell me if I'm on track or if these are only my thoughts.

Here is my parallel level of enquiry.
1. This program says RAPID so when that is not so, answers are appropriate. Now they define rapid by 70% being between 7 and 10kilos in the first month, and apart from the initial fluid loss, the rates are reasonably consistant after that, with some decline closer to goal. If that is not so, then answers are appropriate and should not be placated by an organization with: O you will get there. That's true! But it avoids the question. And

2. It is one thing to stick to a program and be determined. But we are whole human beings, and understanding the process is more critical to some people than others. If someone says 'do this and you will get weight loss', we don't want to be puppets, but in control. In fact we are told to take control of our eating by following this program. Taking control can sometimes involve understanding the why. Otherwise we are just puppets. The slower the loss and the longer to achieving goal, the more you need to be in control. So someone saying something like: your HGH level is only borderline at x, and your seretonin level is low at y, these are the possible reasons for that, and that means that from your blood chemistry it seems that you will get a response but it will put you in that bottom 10% because ...., and this is what you can expect because of that .., these are possible ways to overcome that, or there is no way of dealing with that except ... , etc, any other questions that could help your progress?', would be very helpful.

Having information that meets the level of understanding that the person needs is a proper proffessional response. Explanation is a companion for some people, and is as essential as determination. Only information can satisfy at that level. When you get information you can name the problem and that makes the determination more focused and less stressful - you understand the why you are slow and choose to accept this slower loss in a more productive way.

What we are doing is accepting it blindly, and we should be pretty proud of ourselves for having enough courage to follow our conviction that these rules work even if we don't get all the principles to assess it. I've made my choice and am sticking with the program no matter what - but I am not impressed with the level of information given, and the lack of respect for the client being an informed participant in their steps to greater health. I don't think this is the consultant's fault at all. I think it is the philosophy Dr Cohen holds that is the problem. Bit of a shame because on the other hand I am so grateful for his coming up with this program. Bit of a shame about this aspect though.

Well that's my rambling! Interested in what you think about this PinkVirgo, or anyone else who has a thought about this,
Cheers, and thanks again all you great supporters,
lizzi

Mel, wow your fiance is very supportive. Does he have a brother? lol I wouldn't worry too much about your friend. As the others said, she is probably just jealous.

Hopeful1, as Tash said you really have come to the right place. I can't even begin to explain how good it is to see such rapid results in such a short amount of time just by eating the right foods.

This morning I did something reeeeaaaally bad :( I left home and forgot to finish my breakfast. I intended on having some veges, a peice of fruit and a boiled egg. I was running very late though and I was just waiting for the egg to finish boiling so I ate everything else, forgot about the egg and walked out the door. It wasnt until about 11am that I realised I was getting a little hungry and I hadn't eaten the egg. What would you guys do in this situation when you realised you sorta skipped your meal?

On a positive note... I was eating my lunch with the rest of the office while theyre were enjoying chocolate cake for afternoon tea and I had a bit of a grumble. Then they all told me how it looks like I've lost a bit of weight and earlier in the day one of our reps told me I looked like I had lost it in the arse lol. I cracked up, but hey, a loss anywhere is good right ! I was startign to feel a little down coz I didn't think that people could see the weight loss but they proved me wrong. I was very pleased :D

One more question, how often is too often to have the slimmers yea? I had some last friday night before bed. Since then I have had no "movement". Is it too soon to have it this friday as well?

Hi gals,

I am not in Australia but I would like to get hold of the tea that you've been recommending. I read from a post that the brand's Nutrileaf Slimmer's Tea. Is this the actual name? Cos if I can't buy it in the local pharmacy, would certainly like to purchase it online.

Is this tea recommended by the consultants? My consultant advised me not to take any slimming tea. I think if it helps to speed up the process, why not!

Will really appreciate your replies. Thanks!

Hi Everyone!

I feel like I know you all already! I have been reading your posts for the last month or so, and I have to tell you that it was all of you that convinced me that this was the right thing to do. I visit the cheltenham clinic, and I have to say (and I don't want other repeat of the Tim incident!) that the lady there is the most unhelpful person anyone could find to do this. the receptioist is lovely. If it wasn't for you guys, I would NEVER has parted with my hard earned cash.

But anyway, I am about to start. Am pumped, totally commited, and have cleared my social calendar, but I have a couple of questions:
1. What brand of vitamins do you use? Any help here appreciated, cos she gave me no advice at the clinic.
2. What is the best tasting natural yoghurt? This is going to be my brekkie every work day.
3. This is going to sound silly, but do you have to have Sprite zero? Can you have Diet lemonade? Sprite zero is wwwaaaayyyy too sweet for me.

Thanks everyone! I can't wait to see you all succeed, and tell you how I'm doing.

Bella

PS. i have about 14-16 kgs to lose.

Hi Ridiculous, my clinic recommends Blackmore's multi-vitamins so those are the ones I take. She also said do NOT use Centrum because basically they are a waste of money and don't help. I'm not sure if anyone else on here uses them but I was advised not to use them.

Hey there ridiculous,

Welcome!!!! :) Good luck with starting, hopefully you will have some great results!!! How much do you have to lose????

My clinic recommended to get Pluravit 50+ vitamins, I couldn't find them ANYWHERE, but I got my local chemist to order them in, I am quite happy with them, and they are only about $18 for 60 tablets. See how you go!!

As for Yoghurt, I use Jalna, which is in a white round container with a green lid, I have found that it's only available from Woolworths, but it has almost no fat....and is the lowest amount of fat compared to any other brand I've seen.

Good luck with starting, just focus on getting through the first few days, you will be fine....keep us up to date with how you go!!!

Tash x

Hugs all round!!

Hi everyone!

I just wanna start off by giving everyone a big HUG! You are all so supportive and make this experience so worthwhile! I know my last post was just one big gripe… but sometimes I just need to vent my frustration about this program, and it only seems fitting to do it on the forum (because I always know I’ll get encouraging and supportive responses – which I did, so thanks guys!).

Even though I continue to be a little disappointed with my slow loss, I have no plans to stop!! It just means that my social life will remain so DULL for a little while longer, I will have to curb my desire to shop and buy clothes for a little while longer… and I have to put off going on a holiday (which I so desperately need) for a little while longer too. I can make it!!

Anyway, I have emailed by clinic lady but have yet to get a response. We’ll see what she says.

Question for everybody ( I also asked this in my email to my consultant, but without a reply still don’t know the answer ) – the 9pm rule ladies. Is this based on the assumption that we all go to bed at 11pm?? Or can you still turn in at like 9:30pm even if you just ate your last meal at 9pm??

MEL – Sorry to hear that your trip away was dampened by a friend’s reaction to your resolve to stay as committed to the program. It’s sad to think some people can’t accept change, either in themselves or others, and try to sabotage someone else’s efforts to change themselves (whether consciously or subconsciously). I hope things have become better for the two of you since returning home, and that you maybe even got an apology from her?? Now for your fiance – Oh my God girl! Consider yourself one of the lucky ones (which I’m sure you already do!). Michael is so sweet and supportive and that email was just so beautiful. No wonder you are doing so fantastically well so far. Give Michael big kisses from us, who think he’s just the greatest!!

MONEYEPNNY – Yes!!! I noticed that about my hands the other day, but figured it must have been the soap at work, or something similar. I really didn’t even consider it could be the program.. how funny! I wonder what it could be? And your theory on the body type could be true too. Who knows I guess. It just beats me how we can all vary so dramatically on a weight loss plan that’s especially designed for us.

LIZZI – You’re so right. The fundamentals of the program aren’t ever explained to us, for reasons I’m sure are acceptable (ie. They don’t want anyone copying the program) but a further explanation of why my program is how it is, as apposed to why someone else’s program is how it is, would be nice. As you said, we’re not puppets, nor are we animals that have to do and eat what’s put in front of them. I would like some control and some know-how on why my body is how it is and does what it does.

RIDICULOUS – Welcome aboard!!! Good luck with starting your program. We’re all here for you. You asked about vitamins – I use Natures Own. They’re the green and yellow bottles. I have a general multi-vitamin which has added Omega-3 Oils (which are listed as optional vitamins to take). Like KIM_J101 I was also told to steer clear of Centrum (KIM I think we must go to the same clinic – with both of us being in Brissy). Yoghurt – I use Jalna. I find this tasty with a little sweetener in it. With the diet drinks, I’m pretty sure anything would be fine, so long as it was diet (diet just means they use fake instead of real sugar).

EVERYONE ELSE – thank you again for your encouraging posts. It means so much to me that my posted thoughts, gripes and victories about this program are read by you all. I read the forum daily and read every single post, and love to hear how you all are and how the program is going for you.

Take care all.

Thanks for the info

Tash*, Kim_J101 and moneypenny thanks for sharing the information and your encouragement.

And a great big hug to everyone else.
It is an inspiration to read the messages on this thread.

Looks like I'll be starting the program soon. I am worried about my trip to Bali in May. :( Don't know how I'll be able to find the necessary food to keep me on track with the eating plan while I am there.

Any suggestions from those of you who travel?

Lizzi agree with your thoughts on the need to understand why this process works.

And from where I am right now, I would be glad for the excess weight to disappear, no questions asked.

Has anyone heard of any medical concerns associated with using this programme? Just asking before i sign up to make sure there are no negative consequences. Meeting scheduled with the consultant this weekend.

hi girls - hope my pickie came up..

Welcome hopeful1. I would just go for it. This program is healthy and it works - and whatever your body type you will lose, and will lose it quicker than any other method on a sustained basis. Yes it is restrictive, but I really sing the praises of this program.

OK everyone, so I had an off day yesterday! Bit of a grumble. But I still think what I said is true for me. Information is power and increased control and determination. Glad it hit a cord with some, and with PinkVirgo.

That said, I am on leave this week and for a few more days - really miss eating as a let your hair down activity. It will be 36 weeks tomorrow. Even a cappucino would go down well. I worked out that although it could be faster I expect to be finished in October - that is finished refeed in another 31 weeks from tomorrow. I have allowed for 1 kg a week, the lowest weight I expect to be, an extra week for each of the last 3 kilos, and the maximum which is 4 weeks for refeed. As I said I am slow - but still faster than any other program for me. If I even lost at 6 kilos every 4 weeks, I would be very close now, and only 6kgs away maximum from refeed - HUGE DIFFERENCE!! And losing at 7 kgs, I would be there! ANd if I were moni ... well we can all dream!! Just not to be.
Altogether it will be 67 weeks, which is well over a year! BUT I WILL GET THERE!!! DETERMINED - EVEN WITHOUT SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE.

Well the grumbles are over now, and I am just going to have a good day without special food and latte treats and outings to good restaurants, etc, that so make a part of my normal holiday times. Thank you for being good listeners, and hopefully understanding. Especially that it is not just about the willpower, but thought power as well.

PinkVirgo I have three holiday breaks planned and this is the first and shortest. I didn't put it off. Not last year either. I also needed the break, and most of the time there are other things to do besides eat - as I said: most of the time. This is a short one where I didn't go away, but I will be travelling on the next ones, and was last year too - it can be done. Life can be socially boring on Cohen's. I know it is not about food when you get to go out with people, but food is often a necessary part of spending time with people so ... I agree.

Bella welcome too. It sounds like you are all planned. Well done. Have you started drinking lots of water yet? You can have several diet fizzy drinks. Just read the label and make sure they really are low in carb. Caffeine free diet coke or pepsi, Diet orange, or even Saxby's diet ginger beer is good. There are several diet lemonades, just compare the labels. I am sure you'll do well.

kim_j01: I have never left half a meal! I have forgotten lunch a couple of times though and remembered when I was hungry at 3 or 4pm in the afternoon though. O well, nothing you can do about it now.

As for eating after 9pm. It is only the actual meals the consultant told me. You can eat fruit and biscuits anytime I was told. And the 1 1/2 hours before bed is so that the digestion process is finished before we hit our REM sleep, which is when the HGH is released into our system, and that means there is no competition going on in our bodies.

Sleep is very important, and I notice that when I haven't slept well, or long enough, that they are not good weight loss days. Have a great sleep the next night and it pays off. So everyone do their best to sleep well and not skimp on it while on the program.

I'll try not to do too much more grumbling, and thanks all for your support,
have a good day,
lizzi

Hi everyone. Great to see you all having positive thoughts in spite of setbacks. The week before I started back, I had gastro and hadn't seen my friends for awhile. Caught up with one yesterday, and she looks at me and says "maybe I need to get what you had you look great, really attractive" Well (he he he) she thinks it's because I had gastro ( which btw didn't result in any weightloss for me) And my hubby has said he can see me shrinking, and I am looking really nice. So this is only my 9th day, what can I say, I'm over the moon. ;)

Thanks guys!
Glad you told me about centrum, cos I did a bit of investigating, and they are the ones i was leading towards. Lucky I found you guys!
I will def keep you all up to date with how I'm going! I'm soooo excited about starting.
In regards to drinking water - already drink between 2 & 4 litres a day. So that isn't going to bother me much!

have a great weekend girls - hopefully I won't be too hungry, or get a massive headache!

Bella

PinkVirgo, which clinic do you go to? When I started, the Brendale office was closest to me (although since then they have opened one a lot closer).

Hi everybody!
I'm so happy because I can finally move my ticker!
I jumped on the scales this morning and I am down 4 kgs!
I'm in double digits for the first time in 2 years! I just can't get my head around this diet - it's amazing, and I feel so good already aswell, and it's only been 4 days!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

xx

Hi everybody,

I just had a question about those of you that have gone over 12 weeks on your diet. Our plan in the states is for 12 weeks of online help and support with questions pertaining to the diet. The refeed is included as long as the refeed comes when you are within 5 lb of your goal and before the 12 weeks is up. There is an additional charge to extend this service. My question is for those of you that have gone on for an extra few months, did Cohen's change your diet or make any other adjustments to it or did you continue on with the original portions and basic diet?

I'm close to their suggested weight for me, but plan on going a bit more. They said the weight loss was my decision that theirs was only a suggested one for me. I would appreciate anyone that could respond.

Thanks,

Linda

Bali - lucky you

:D Hi Hopeful1 - your trip to Bali shouldn't be a problem except if you like a drink or two. Bottled water is usually supplied in most hotel rooms but if not there's plenty of little supermarkets called Circle K. Dont drink water from the tap, shower etc. As for food if your breakfast is included just be strong and ask for what you want, the staff are always very obliging. You can order any type of egg with whatever you like in or on it. Yoghurt is very hard to find, (the best place to get it is at the massage parlour, they seem to think thats what it's for)
Eating at restaurants wont be a problem, if you order steak you'll only get a small one as it's so expensive for them to buy, chicken can be ordered grilled and as for the fish, it's plentiful. Most meals come with veges which consist of about 4 small green beans and about 4 julienne carrots, just make sure you tell them NO FRIES.
The staff are so helpful and freindly but if you try to change anything on the menu only do one thing at a time otherwise they get terribly confused. We always laugh because although they get the meals all confused they never seem to have a problem splitting the bill between couples (not like here in oz).
Fresh fruit is plentiful and can be bought at the markets and taken back to your room, just make sure it's something that can be peeled and dont wash it.
Crispbreads can be purchased but dont know about the brands so why not take your own.
Don't forget the IMODIUM for gastro:eek: and take it as soon as you feel any twinges. Gosh so jealous, wish I could come too. Have been about 7 or 8 times and love it.

Going for my 1st weigh and blood test on Monday and so far I think I have only lost 5kg but maybe if I'm extra careful over the weekend I could drop another couple, would really like to have lost 8kg in the month;) I must be like a couple of others that have bemoaned the fact that it's not coming of as fast as for some, but like they say, we're all different.

Have a good weekend everyone.
Cheers.

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post as I only started my Cohens programme today, looking forward to finding out all I have to look forward to...apart from the smaller sized clothing.
If anyone can tell me how to get one of those lovely clicker metres that would be appreciated
Thanks
Seven

Hi everyone, Linda717, our programs are calculated at a loss of 1 kg per month plus an extra 4 weeks ( I think that was correct). My contract was for 13months, and as long as I ordered my re-feed within this time everything was included. The program never changed, and as long as I stay within 4 kg's of the weight I finished at, I can continue to use the same program for the rest of my life.
It is very important that you get, and do, the re-feed, so I would suggest that even if you want to carry on for longer, get them to order your re-feed for you, and then stick it in a drawer until you need it. If they are going to charge you extra to continue on, don't tell them that is what you plan to do. You'll get all the support and help you need on here. Just make sure you get that Re-feed.
Beck
