Cohen's Lifestyle Cohens Lifestyle Support - New

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Yes... i was 101kg when i 1st started... 6 mths down the road.. and i got 30+ of it down the drain... i was really big when i started... believe it.. :D

So i was quite spot on.. cos was toking with my frenz with peter in the room.. and saw 2 plans on the table.. guess that were urs and ur hubby's... hehe

Jayce! You were NOT 100kg! You DON'T look like you were! OMG! I'm super inspired!!! *faint*

Yes, we were that couple at the office last Monday :) it's great doing the program together. We go grocery shopping and cook together and it's great fun to be able to talk to each other about the program.

Hazel... thx for the compliments.. head turner not so much.. juz that i look much better than last time... Should i say, u were the one that made the change in my life.. 1st got to noe of this program when u posted in sgbbw... and seeing u at cohens clinic the 1st time i went there made mi even more inspired to start the program... so... u are my LIFE SAVER!

And... saying about looking good.. omg.. u r the one that really look fabulous now.. You r the one making us proud! And u r so close to refeeding, i'm so jealous~ :p yet i feel so happy for u.. u been working so hard for the past 1 yr +... and ur BIG DAY is arriving... :D ... hope i reach that day real soon too... :p

Jayce: I wanted to say this a long time ago but didn't have the time so now I'm doing it... You look so damn good!!!! I'm sure you are a head turner now! I'm so proud of you!!! Keep going yah! I'm so so sure your boyfriend is so proud of you! You look so pretty and sweet! Yayayyaya!

Windy Blue: I wanted to say that you and your hubby are so fortunate to have each other. It's really good to embark on healthier eating habits together. I have been on this program for a year and my tastebuds have completely changed. What I find sweet, salty is bland to my family. And honestly, my family isn't used to me choosing healthier alternatives sine I was eating junk food for the past 25 years! Yup... so when I complete refeed, I will go figure out how to align my eating habits, lifestyle and tastebuds with my family's. Seriously now, I can't even bear to buy a box of chocolate chip cookies for my family... I find it too sinful...

Keep going on this program all! I just called for my refeed and will most probably start when I reach 66 kg. That will be a nice complete round figure of 60 kg loss!

I hope I will reach 66 kg this week... keep my fingers crossed. When I do reach 66 kg, I'm going share my joys, triumph with the Cohen family here!

Persevere on, Cohenites! Keep trying and the weight will just come off, some how, some time!

I can't believe that you actually deleted posts that were opinions and stated factual information trying to give helpful advice.....people took time out of their busy lives to post here and you deleted their posts.

I'm really puzzled, however your the boss.

I thought an open forum is to discuss peoples opinions. Just because some don't agree with others doesn't mean that the opinions should just be deleted. Is that how you guys work here? You just delete a post that you don't agree with?

Agreed, I don't understand how this forum is run. Could I please ask where your rules are actually posted so I could view them? To make sure I'm not in violation of anything next time I post information. Do we have to go with the flow? We can't disagree, and provide facts to support us? Don't be upset because some people make waves in the water, waves spark change. Which is why you all are here.. Maybe you guys should check with sean about censoring information, I think the readers deserve to hear all aspects, not just the ones you choose for them.

Kirby...did you not see the new sticky I put up??

I stated that people are going to voice their opinions about things...thats the beauty of it...free speech. As stated in the sticky, if you don't like the fact someone is offering some advice, wanted or not, just put them on your ignore list. There is no reason to get in an arguement over it. End of story.

Kirby and Members of the Cohen Forum,

Please understand that people frequent the WLF from all walks of life and are at different stages of the fitness continuum.

While I understand your desire for a place of your own, and for the most part, you have that here, there will at times be people who enter your forum with opinions and information that might be contrarian to your views.

That does not mean they are "high & mighty" nor does it mean that they are being abusive. There is nothing on the front door of the forum that indicates dissenting points of view need not be made.

I suggest that you can share differing information, perhaps learn a little from both sides, and from there, agree to disagree if that's where it ends.

WindyBlue, I agree it is great doing the programme with a partner, my daughter and I are involved, we also shop together, and are a constant source of motivation to each other. This is daughter who previously hated grocery shopping and never took any interest in our food purchases, the other day she dragged me into borders and we brought 5 great healthy inspirational cookbooks in prepration for our Cohens afterlife. It's all good.:D

Well I thought this was a support group for people on the Cohens programme. Not somewhere for people who dont agree with the Cohen programme to come and bag. For the most - everyone has been successful and I believe it is up to the individual. For myself - I have never felt better and there is no putting drugs down your throat or eating unrealistic food that tastes like plastic. It's Cohens for me

This forum is a very inspirational one - lets keep it that way :)

Newlife & Jayce

Newlife, I agree with Jayce that you were the one who inspired a lot of us to start the Cohen's program.. I am one of them too... And I really do admire your determination over the last yr... keep it up.. you are just one more step away from your goal weight.... Refeed is coming your way!!!
Jayce, I must say you are looking extremely great too... can you imagine from 101kg till now 60+kg?? Really envy that you are losing so fast... i am a slow loser in weight but of course I am very happy that I have made the changes in my life... I am sure you are very close to your goal as well...
For myself, my loss have always been slow.. i am now at 70.9kg.. which i am very close to the 60+ range... I am happy... working hard to stay to the program before the cny comes.. I have been buying clothes.. cannot resist the temptions... my goal is at 61-63kg.. i am working hard!!!
How do i post a photo?? thought could post some of my pics...
Welcome WindyBlue...

MY TURN!

This is a forum. A forum is a place for everyone to state their opinions (asked for or not). They may not be welcome as some of you have dubbed this your own place, but there is only one person here that owns that right ... and that would be me :D

The only exception I have to this are trolls (mreik - you have self-proclaimed yourself as one, you can't hide :)). Trolls are those that have the sole purpose of starting s**t.

There are a number of people that have made their way over here from some other forums and I happen to know quite a few of them and they ARE very knowledgeable people (in most cases, more than me), so my advice is to listen to them. If you don't want to, click on their profile and go "Add to Ignore List" and then you will never hear from them again ... pretty simple.

I am sick of tuna - don't mind it on the BBQ - but yuk in my salad.

All you new cohens people - welcome and best of luck - I am happier and healthier than I have been  in years - but yes - I HATE TUNA

have you tried different brands. I find the John West tuna slices, or the thorpedo steaks the best ones, and the closest to the correct serving size. I really don't like the normal tinned tuna.

I use balsamic vinegar and some mayo, which makes a good dressing and sometimes add dried coriander.

The other thing I do which is nice for work lunches is cook up some calamari or prawns, and have that on a salad for lunch - very very yummy, and a nice change from tuna! and if I'm feeling very extravagant, I have a salad with slices of kangaroo! Mmmm, yum! (my daughter always complains about me eating roo though - how could you be sooooo mean, mummy!!)

Hi AllCdnBoy

Thanks for the input – I guess from your introduction that we have you to thank for this Forum as a whole and the Cohen’s Lifestyle sub-forum in particular?

If so, many thanks. This is an invaluable resource in which many people from an amazing number of countries and places participate each day.

I guess the problem is not so much ‘freedom of speech’, which we all value highly and would not deny to anyone, but rather the manner in which ‘opinions’ are dumped on people who are just going along minding their own business.

Perhaps you have noticed what a friendly place the Cohen’s forum is. Everyone participating here is on the same page, doing the same program, experiencing the same difficulties and triumphs.

If someone wants to post a new thread about, say, drinking jojoba juice, then fair enough, but it’s when they start to make rapid number of posts within a running thread, criticise people on their own chosen program, and then tell them how stupid they are because they don’t drink jojoba juice that feathers get ruffled.

And for what?

It really is just kicking sand – and it’s not as if we are 98lb weaklings – but it’s just offensive being told you are stupid just to provide sport for someone else.

I guess rude behaviour is just rude behaviour in anyone’s language.

Brunswick, In Melbourne, Australia, is an inner city suburb with a high proportion of non-English speaking Australians, a lot of whom are from Middle Eastern countries.

The women, who are all modest, used to be able to enjoy swimming at the Brunswick Public Swimming Baths on a Tuesday. Only female employees worked on Tuesdays, and the women’s husbands were assured that no males would be present while the women swam and exercised.

Then, two young professional men took the Baths Committee to the Equal Opportunity Commission, claiming that, as ratepayers contributing indirectly to the operating costs of the Baths, they were being discriminated against as they wished to swim on Tuesdays and were denied access because of the women.

The EOO upheld their claim and the Baths were instructed to open to the public. Most of the women stopped going, their menfolk would not allow them to be seen in public, and the older, heavier Australian women stopped going, too, as they did not want to risk ridicule because of their old bodies with young men present.

A year later, The Age Newspaper interviewed these two young men. Neither had been to the pool or swum since the decision. They were ‘too busy’ and swimming was not really all that important to them.

For the women denied access because the Baths were now ‘out of bounds’ to them, it did matter. But the damage was done and that was that.

With the Cohen’s program, we are all obese when we sign up for the program. This sub-Forum is important to us. Of course, we can roam around the general forum, and of course other participants can roam around in here.

But if, just for the sport of it, people come in to this section and deliberately offer ‘advice’ which is contradictory to the program, make deprecating comments about the program or the participants, pick fights, or ‘take us to the Equal Opportunity Commission’ just to spoil things for us – well, we will just have to take our bathers and towels and go somewhere else, or stop supporting each other, either of which would be a shame.

Yes, yesterday’s intrusion may well have been a storm in a teacup. Bullies usually lose interest after the first five minutes when they have had the desired effect and made their targets uncomfortable

It would be a shame if everybody forgot their party manners and spoiled an otherwise much appreciated forum

Thanks again for providing it. Freedom of Speech is a highly valued aspect of a democratic society. However the price of Freedom is eternal vigilance and if the guerrillas are given an inch they will take a mile. It was always thus.

Regards

Kristine

Guerrillas? We're hardly guerrillas. Every piece of advice offered by members that I know *your so called guerrillas* has been proven and backed by scientific studies. I understand that this program works, but if you were to take some info from what we have to offer and combine it with what you already know to work. You could develop something new, something better. If you don't want my personal advice, fine, but realize that it's just another untapped resource to help you. Enjoy whichever program you choose, and goodluck.

Sorry for the self-proclaimed troll sean, it was only a fling :D lmao..

@chelsea

Yes, it is I who has created this forum and got it going, but having this Cohen's forum and most of the changes after the first year is thanks to the suggestions of the moderators, as I don't have the time to keep up with the ongoings. All thanks should go to them.

Also, I agree with you, which is why I singled out the Trolls and have also talked to a few of them personally. A couple have confessed to stirring trouble and said that they will behave accordingly. The rest we will continue to deal with, but I caution any moderators that are reading this to not be so quick to delete everyone's post who even remotely disagrees.

I also agree with some of their posts. I know that some cause trouble because they are going against what people believe to work, but there are facts to back up a lot of what they say ... this does not make them always right because there are a lot of other studies that say other things, as well.

This forum will help a lot of people that are doing the program, but it should also be a place for people that are thinking about it and it is only fair that they hear some negative comments too. No program is perfect and no program will work for everyone.

Informed decisions can only be made when ALL sides are stated ... they just have to be stated in accordance with the forum, and that's what we need to be encouraging.

@mreik
much better stated, but take out the defensiveness and you'll have a perfect post.

Guerrillas? We're hardly guerrillas. Every piece of advice offered by members that I know *your so called guerrillas* has been proven and backed by scientific studies...

"Evidence based practice" is an interesting area. I work in a allied medical profession, and it is certainly an area we need to focus on. I often read scientific studies in a wide range of health and medical areas.

Some comments I would make regarding evidence...

Many of the "scientific studies", or evidence, we are presented with are poorly designed and can't be generalised to different settings. Either the number of subjects is too small, or the design itself is flawed. I would say that this is particularly true in alternative medicine, and allied health studies. (often diet and exercise studies would come under one of these areas). There are also plenty of scientific studies that contradict each other, and with so many studies in this area being sponsored by people with a vested interest, it makes it difficult to pull out which studies are actually valid. Many people across Australia are currently using the CSIRO diet. But there is also concern because it was sponsored by those promoting red meat, and if you look into the details, people were only on the diet for 12 weeks. Most of know it will take longer than that to really assess the effectiveness of a diet. So, science isn't always what its cracked up to be. (athough I certainly promote people doing research and increasing the number of good valid evidence)

Many areas have not yet been the subject of scientific studies, particularly in allied health and alternative health. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they are not valid. For example, I am involved in helping people to select the best type of wheelchair and cushion for them. When it comes to preventing pressure sores, there is plenty of evidence. But there is almost no evidence on what the best way to control posture is, or whether controlling posture makes any difference to that person's life anyway. There is no evidence that we can prevent future postural problems by providing good posture now. But my experience as a professional, and the experience of those around me, and the feedback from wheelchair users is that controlling posture certainly makes a difference to their comfort, function and long term health. So, should I stop doing this because there is little scientific evidence..... No, I keep providing the solution, encourage people to do research, and over time there will be evidence to back up what I do.

So, in terms of Cohens, I know that the program follows certain scientific principles, which I think are sound. There may not be "scientific evidence", peer-reviewed and in medical journals.....but there is certainly plenty of anecdotal evidence that it works.

We don't need to combine other "medicines" ie exercise/ lifting weights, with the one we are already using - our food is our medicine, and it is doing a great job of healing us. Cohens and a major exercise program are like contraindicated drugs - you don't take them both at the same time. So, just like a person who has cancer, we focus on one area at a time - beating obesity is first. After that, if we choose, we can look to improve our fitness levels. But for the time being, it is just not relevant.

Well reading that long post I could only think of one thing: I, do not find it hard to find valid and true studies. I understand that ONE study isn't enough to deem something a fact or theory, but repeated studies with repeated results is.

We're not trying to tell you that your diet won't work. We're (I'm can only talk for myself, but I feel others might agree) saying that there are other ways to go about losing fat that are just as, if not more, effective than your current way AND they're healthy. Leigh posted a GREAT post with references to FACTS, and it got deleted so we'll move on.

Why would you want to 'beat obesity' at your body's expense? Seems like a crappy trade, I'd rather be 800lbs and healthy than 100lbs and be on the verge of heart failure. I have yet to say anything about lifting weights or exercising, so please don't assume because I lift I'm saying you've got to also.

Kind of like Blooming Lotus eh? :p

Why dont you have that avatar on WF? It doesnt look as bada$$ as the one thats there, but I dont know. :) Friendly face huh, I was worshipping you (New God). lol

Hi,

I have been reading all your post and you are all doing really well. I have just started with cohen's and am finding it really hard.

morning is really good but when it comes to 3 or 4 in the afternoon i need something really sweet. what can i do to get rid of this feeling.

hope to get to know some of you ladies.
talk to you all soon.

luv bella-anne

Have a Nectarine in the afternoon, it will help with the sugar craving! And well done on making the decision to improve your life!

Wow, seems alot has been happening since i last posted;) !

I had my weigh in and measure yesterday, and am now down to 77kg!
The lady who took my blood test commented on how healthy and good i looked and asked what i was doing.... so out came the Cohen's story..... I also have a photo in my bag of me before Cohen's, when i was at the gym, Horse riding and walking in the mornings (Which i like to show people as a "Before Photo") and boy oh boy, is there a MASSIVE difference.

We have just finished filming our wedding invitation DVD, i am in togs and shorts, Halter neck tops, Skinny pants.... WOW. what a difference to actually see yourself on video. i don't look fat, i look normal next to my future Hubby, we look like a couple, rather than the guy who's with the fat chick!

I am looking forward to going back to exercising when i have completed my re feed, as i have never ever been this unfit, and when i was last at this size i was a ball of muscle (worked in a REALLY REALLY physical and active job).
Since i started Cohen's i haven't been near a gym, nor have i power walked the hill's that i used to, my exercise has consisted of regular Horse riding, Carting 30kg bags of horse feed & Hay, & Mowing Lawns! So i don't have the muscles or fitness level i used too. I'm not concerned though, cause those muscles are still around, and muscle memory helps you to tone up pretty quickly.

I was looking at my measurements yesterday ( i take them monthly) and i have lost between 12-14 cm off each of the following areas : Bust, Waist & Hips.

I am going to have to get some size 12's soon as my size 14's are now all falling off (i took my shorts off without undoing the buttons or zipper yesterday. I brought them 14th Dec 2006 and they were really :eek:TIGHT:eek: then)

Well done to all of you for your weight loss so far, stick with it and you will love the results!

All the best,
Brieziel

The problem is that really this is just a forum of people who are following Cohen diet plan, it is a plan that if followed will lead to weight reductions. From my personal point of view, could there be a better way? my answer is "yes", could that way include more exercise again my answer would be "yes". My point is that if I was 123KG and want to be normal 80KG (and heathy), following Cohen diet will get me where I want to go. However suggesting/hinting that following the Cohen program will be at our "bodies expense" and "verge of heart failure" is just silly, I just see a classic Fear Uncertainty and Doubt comment.

So do you or others who posted part of any business that sells health and fitness products or diet suppliments ?

I, for one, am glad I no longer have high blood pressure, palpitations and a racing heart rate and out of breath whenever i walk more than a few metres. I know without a doubt that my heart, and the rest of me, is far better off now than it was 6 months ago!! Before I started this program, I was afraid of going to sleep at night, because my heart was racing so much and my blood pressure up high, and I thought I might not wake up in the morning.
One of my work colleagues was commenting the other day on the improvement in my skin and hair. For me, thats also a good sign of how healthy we are on this program. My nails have never grown so fast and my hair has also speed up its growth - with no split ends. I no longer suffer from any depression. I no longer have sugar highs and lows and have reduced my risk of diabetes considerably. All in all, I've never felt healthier - even when I was going to the gym every 2nd day.
