Beginner

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this. I am presently waiting for my Cohens information to arrive in the mail so that I can get started.

I am 36 years old and have lost and gained 1000's kg throughout those 36 years and this is my last shot before throwing my arms up and surrendering to the adipose tissue forever!!

I have 3 children who suffer from my grumpiness and general sadness at being sooooo overweight and lacking in energy every day. I feel nervous that this may prove too hard, but excited that it may indeed be the answer I have been looking for.

It is fantastic reading everyones input and sharing the wins and occassional deviations. I was going to wait until July because I have a weekend away in June, but, judging by others amazing results, I could weigh substancially less by then. What happens when deviation occurs, do you just return to the same programme??

Anyway, lovely to know there are others on the journey and those who have reached destination.

Hi nomoreweighting(love the name!), Welcome to the forum. Personally I would wait until after your week-end away or start soon but do not deviate from the program whilst you are away. I think it's a big risk to deviate. The program is so successful it is a shame to risk jeopardising it. I followed many diaries early on in the program & saw the trouble people had & chose the non-deviation path. Most seem to lose their motivation after deviations & throw in the towel. Cohen's works. It's best to follow it 100%. If you do you will not regret it. Kiss your adipose tissue good-bye, cheers, cate.

i agree with cate!

this is a program of gigantic commitment and preparation, especially in the start up period, it take s you a good 3-6 weeks to get into the ZONE, and in that time you will have shed a good amount of weight.
your food is like a prescription...just for you and to be taken as directed.
you need to eat only what is on plan, no more no less. your water intake is essential to feeling well and losing well.
this program has had a profound effect on my moods and energy.
i cannot begin to describe the sense of wellness i have after only a few short weeks. i feel like a dark cloud has been lifted. i am more open, available, loving and kind to my DD's and my DH.
i feel alive and optimism has returned to my daily life.
i know i can succeed and you can to.
but, as cate said no lapses or deviations are allowed.
you need to surrender and just do it!!!!

Advice

Thanks Cate and Bitten for your advice.

I am really anxious can hardly wait for everything to arrive. I am having the blood test on Monday, so it is probably best to wait until after the "me time" weekend away to start.

This forum is a terrific idea and I have noticed the support and boost that you all supply to each other, Fantastic.

What can I expect in the first few days??? I presume that if I am drinking 2-3 litres of water a day that most of the first few days will consist of dashes to the loo!!

I too have tried Dr Cohen's diet, it went well to start with but due to some stress in my life, I fell off the diet and put the weight back on again. Recently I approached the Dr Cohen's clinic again, only to be told that it probably would not work again. Well that made me feel just great.
Has anyone else been through this?

HI Tashi,

I finished Cohens in 2006 Sept and lost about 15kgs then. My weight when I was doing re-feed was 53kgs. I've since put back abt 10kgs and have been trying to start Cohens again. I keep saying I am going to, but always give in.
I was told that if I put on more than 5kgs then I will need a new programme. However, I'm still thinking of using my old programme. Just need to motivate myself enough to start :(

LadyD, I am starting back on my old program next Monday, the 19th. I want to lose at least 5kgs. I'm sick of saying I want to re-commit. I'm going to just do it. Join me. Cheers, Cate.

Hello everyone,
I too fell of the cohens wagon, I lost 25kgs in about 8 weeks and then everything went pear shape and the stress was too much and i returned to my emotional eating habits. Now after a lot of gunna, gunna, gunna, I am. i bit the bullet hard and am now on day 6 no cheats. They say if you stop and start too often the diet wont work, They cannot garantee that your weight will stay off and also your cravings are stronger each time you attempt ..but i am trying any way I believe if we learn what we are meant to which is portion control, then we should succed. i paid 550.00 au for my plan i now believe its around 1000.00 au and as a mother of 4 i cannot afford it so i will do my cohens unofficially and i will do my refeeding and then ill pray really hard that i mantain portion controll and try to squeeze in some exercise too... My goal is my 30th birthday mid september and while i dont have the support of my local clinic iam hoping to find like minded others to chat and encourage here. My starting weight was 110 kg I am now 107kg and my goal weight is 60-63kg.

I wish everyone luck with their goal and look forward to reading your posts.:grouphug:

fifty2drop, It's very quiet in here at the moment but I can offer my support. Good for you re-committing to the program, unofficial or not. I'll be doing the same. I unknowingly did not actually get to my goal as our scales were faulty(6kg's) & I have worked out that's why I am having so much trouble stabilising. It will also do me good to go back to weighing, eating smaller portions etc & when I get to goal I will do re-feed & follow the maintenance guidelines forever. I had started slipping back into some old habits but have realised what I was doing, before it got too horrible! Cheers, Cate

Hi Fifty2drop,
I am just waiting for my programme to get started. I will support you, probably check 40 times a day instread of the E word (eating...sh...., don't tell anyone, but I do lots of that at the moment). I can't see why the old diet wouldn't work, let us know how you get on!

thank you cate and nomoreweighting for your kind words, i wish you both well with your goals.I know we will be successful.
I remember i couldnt sleep waiting for my plan, i had watched my mum do the plan (pretty much melting away before my eyes) and i had to save up i was so anxious and impatient and so green with envy.
Well i'm on day 7 and no cheats.
talk with you all soon.
I hope your plan arrives soon nomoreweighting.
while i think of it do you know the formula they used to figure out your daily water requirements?

It's here

:hurray:Hi everyone,
My plan arrived TODAY!!! Myself and a good friend are starting on Sunday. Our plans are slightly different but, due to being time poor, we are getting together Sunday arvo to have a cooking fest ready for the week. I am a little confused about the yogurt...What sort of yogurt do others have? My plan requests 175g natural yogurt...no brands specified. Also, I will ring my consultant, but I am a shift worker and I wondered what happens when I work night shift (no eating after 9pm)??? Cheers all!!! *water 2-3 litres

Hi everyone,

I'm a sort of newbie here. I completed the program back in 2005, lost 35kgs felt absolutley fantastic. The weight loss gave me the confidence to get a job, escape a very nasty marriage and get my life back on track, but, unfortunately, the pressure of the seperation and sale of our home etc, i turned to food as my comfort and have regained all the weight I lost....SO here I am again. Raring to go and get rid of the final baggage that remains. It's great to see that there are still some people here. Hopefully we can all give and get some support from each other and, hopefully you don't mind me joining in again.

Congratulations nomoreweighting, i wish you all the very best for your first week, may the power be with you...:jump: sorry bad joke, couldnt resist. im on day 10 no cheats but i didnt drink all my water i was about a litre short, hubby came off roster so i lost my focous a bit. im finding if i eat my dinner while i cook theres im less tempted to have a taste. about the yogurt i believe its not meant to have added sugar thats getting hard most are adding it even to the natural, we buy Margaret River natural yogurt usually stocked in coles, IGA, woolworths.
A big hello to rjm, i wish you all the very best on your goal, i hope we can be of some HELP. :grouphug:
I've decided that i am not deviating from my plan for anything, because as soon as i do i cant get back into the same mind set and im right back at my starting weight before i know it. well ill check back this evening , my bub is having a spack attack so i best sign off.

good luck to all and be strong.

Well Cate, I decided to start this weekend. I've got Monday off and decided to start today so that I have abt 3 days to get into the programme proper. So, got a headstart cuz I'm looking at loosing abt 10kgs. Looking forward to this journey with you and everyone else who's decided to give it a go again :)

Hi everyone and welcome

I have been absent for awhile but have been checking in to read everyones posts old and new. I also need to lose I would say about 10kg now but like Cate would be happy to shift those 5kg first. I have dallied with other programs but I know if I commit to Cohens again I can lose this weight without much drama....I did the first time successfully but for some reason I lost the plot and if I continue to do so I will be back at my intial pre-Cohens weight plus more.
So I also need to jump on the bandwagon with you all and get moving. I really need to get my head around when I will start I haven't planned this yet.....it will most likely be after i do my next grocery shop. I also need to exercise this time so I won't be weighing my foods. I've been visiting a Chiropractor for the last few weeks to fix my neck and back and she has recommended doing some walking now....last school term I was exercising 3 times a week and walking the kids to School but that all came to a sudden holt due my neck being extra aggravated by the boxercise. Anyway I won't bore you with too many details. I will check back once I have commenced.....so please send out positive thoughts my way get me started sooner rather than later.
Goodluck to us all.
Sam:)

Good luck getting back on track Sam, I wish I had gained control of myself a lot sooner than now then I would not be looking at losing another huge amount of weight again.
Thanks for the welcome Fifty2drop. I look forward to "chatting" with everyone here :waving:.

Well I am over my second day :hurray: and just about to go to bed. I am feeling realling positive and so surprised that, so far, I haven't suffered any cravings. I felt a bit crappy yesterday but today have been fine but a little tired. So it's all systems go and I am looking forward to getting back into all those size 12 clothes I bought 2 years ago!!
Have a good night everyone. Talk to you all soon.

Beck
