Cate's Diary

Marsia- Being out in nature is bliss. Instant contentment sounds lovely. I still have to learn to slow my golf down, but I am going to concentrate on it from now on. Golf is really good fun for us both now. I am really happy with the women & G is really happy at his course. I really enjoy playing there too occasionally. I just got back from a delightful lunch. The new/old golfer joined us today too, She is going to be great company. Her husband died last September :(
Lunch was so nice. I had a taster platter & a small lemon tart & a black coffee.

Knowing what you need to change is the first step toward change.

I'm so glad lunch went so well, socially and gastronomically! Especially good for there being a new friend in the circle (or new/old!) - it must be a really good thing for her, too.

Thanks, Rob. I'll enjoy it even more if I find some consistency, other than consistently bad! I still love it though. G & I are playing, as a team, on Sunday at another club with a couple we met through golf. They are much better players, but I won't feel daunted by that. I really like her. Her husband takes his golf very seriously, but that's ok too. I'm glad I don't or I would have given up ages ago.
I still feel full from yesterday so am delaying eating anything until I get really hungry. I think I'll wait until 12 if I can. When I got home G had cooked dinner & a rhubarb crumble, which he knows I love. I had a very small portion, but having 2 courses for lunch & dinner is a step too far. I'm glad it's a FD!

Nice you got to lunch with a new old friend and fellow golfer. I know what you mean about consistency. I am getting back into yoga and I can not believe anyone could be this stiff and inflexible, but just happy to be doing it, even very shakily! Rhubarb crumble sounds divine. I agree - good thing it's a fast day!

Hi, Marsia. It was a lovely lunch & we had lots of fun. We have the funniest conversations. I will be the same as you when I start Tai Chi again, but I really don't care. We know it's very good for us & our flexibility will get better & better. I managed to get to 11.15 & had 3 cherry tomatoes. Lunch will be just salad items & one boiled egg. Dinner tonight will be a small serve of venison casserole with veggies. If I have some calories left I may have fresh blueberries with a dollop of yoghurt or some cherries. It's the end of the cherry season :( We stocked up on fresh fruit & veggies this morning.

Mmm, rhubarb crumble! Preferably still warm from the oven, with a dollop of icecream on top... The end of cherry season means you get to look forward to them again next year. Seasonal things feel so much more precious.

Hmmmm dreaming of rhubarb crumble here but I like mine with custard . We have a lot of rhubarb and sometimes I chop it up and freeze it so can have anytime .
All sounds great Cate . Good golf and company and food . What more can you ask for . Enjoy

Hi, Amy, LaMa & Petal.
I had rhubarb crumble for breakfast this morning after my fast day yesterday, I warned it up, after adding some extra stewed rhubarb & some blueberries, & topped it with some Greek yoghurt. It was delicious. G makes his sweets without much sugar, which is good.
It's very foggy here today, but G & I are going to split wood. We feel like sloths after a lazy day yesterday. We had better not overdo it though as we're playing golf tomorrow.
Went a bit over my 500 cals yesterday-565. I'm happy with that.
I stayed off the scales this morning. I think I have been doing 5:2 for 4 weeks now. No-23rd Jan. I might weigh tomorrow.
Edit: Interesting article by Michael Mosley on gut health- 11 clever ways to mend your gut and feel better

I feel like I need to buy that book, as I've been eating way too much processed food recently, and my gut is screaming at me. Thanks for the link.

Your breakfast was outstanding. :)

Hi, Em. I was thinking that I might buy the book after I posted that link, then I read my emails & there was one from the library, saying I had 3 books to pick up, one of them being the very same book. I ordered it ages ago! I'll read it & let you know.
Have a great weekend xo

I have been reading about the microbiome and gut health a lot, and we also eat fermented things like sour kraut and pickled beets. I felt a lot better after adding things like this in. It's going to be great having flexibility and strength back. I don't really mind that I am so bad at yoga now, it's just a little shocking. Nice you are getting the book from the library that you really like! I currently have so many books I love from the library that I am cramming to try to read them all before I have to give them back!

That looks like a good article. I gave it a skim and will read it in more detail later. i'm a big believer in gut health and the way it contributes to a healthy mind as well as a healthy body. There are definitely a few simple things i could do to work toward better gut health. thanks for the reminder!

That rhubarb crumble sure sounds good!

Interesting article on gut health (by Dr Clare Bailey by the way, Mosley´s wife, even though the title names both). I think the editor may have goofed a bit on the fiber part though: as far as I know insulin is not fiber but inulin is so they probably meant that? Just like I think insoluble fiber can be found in string beans, regardless of how stringy they are.

That’s a lovely surprise about the book Cate. I love when things align like that, haha. :)
