Cate's Diary

So many new things! Life is going to be exciting when you get back :) G wearing tight pants just because you said they'd fit made me chuckle :)

G wearing tight pants just because you said they'd fit made me chuckle :)
I know. How crazy is that?
I have had a good day. Had a short razor haircut, a very healthy lunch, bought some packing cubes, new phone cover & charger, a wind jacket & not a lot more, so am quite happy with that. I'm back at the golf club & there are old fellas everywhere! I don't want to go in the clubhouse too early as I'll be the only woman. Not that it worries me. I'm very confident amongst older men.
Time to go in I think.

Men are funny creatures - if I think of them as cute little animals, they tend to be friendly towards me and act as if they are! I am glad I am not male - all those expectations of being a protector even with younger men even now. Sometimes I watch a little of Queer Eye or some other silly show just to savor how the gender roles are breaking down somewhat now.

Cate, I love hearing about what you pack. It gives me good ideas for paring down, which is good because there are going to be 4 of us and suitcases for 2 weeks in a little rental car on the way to our places - we rented private houses this time, which I hope works out well.

Happy golfing!!

Hi, LaMa. Men over 60 are very easy to get on with. 18 years of running a pub got me over the feeling of being the odd one out in a large group of men. This lot was very pleasant. There was over 70 of them. G joined up yesterday. He told them he was only committing to one year at this stage. He did say to me that it's not at all convenient & he may not play every week.
Hi, Marsia.
Men are funny creatures
They certainly are! I'm glad I'm not a man too.
Re: packing. I am going to pull everything out of my bag & reassess if I need it all & repack into the see-through cubes. I find black things get lost in a black bag & like to pack in groups. I have a cube that will hold my socks, undies & bras, another for tops, another for slacks & shorts & some small ones for phone chargers/adapter etc, first aid kit etc. We do washing as we go when we are staying at least 2 nights. I have a travel plus & blow up hangers & a small line.
G didn't know that I was typing all that & just started asking me "Have you got a universal plug packed? A clothesline? A flashlight?" etc. He just found my checklist. :D

I hope G likes the club enough to go really regularly despite the inconvenience. Is the place by the ocean where you want to retire someday close to any good clubs?

I have rarely unpacked to make things more organized like you are doing. I am usually so happy that it all fit, that I leave it be! I usually use most of what we pack, too. Funny how different even packing can be. Nice you and G are reading each other's minds about what to bring. Great minds...

Marsia- It's the club where he has the most friends, including the ones he goes away with each year. We decided against the other one as they seem to have as many hassles as our old one.
I have repacked, but I didn't take anything out :blush5: I might weigh it soon.

I usually lay everything out in little stacks beside my bag/suitcase so I can see what I've got, then don't actually put it into the bag until right before I leave :) Rituals..

Rituals are good, LaMa. Mine are usually try things on, pack, unpack, repack, add more, panic, take them out again etc. I should have got 2 of the larger packing cubes, instead of a medium one as I could have fitted all my tops in the 2nd larger one. It's hard to get things just right! It looks good though & I have sneaked a couple of things into G's bag. :)

I have sneaked a couple of things into G's bag. :)
That made me laugh! I do a bunch of what you are describing packing, too!! That's great G is in a hassle-free club with close friends! I hope you meet some great people there, too!

Hi, Marsia. I won't be joining there. I know a lot of them too & they are mostly lovely, but I won't go there very often. He will play the same day I play with my old club.
I got a phone call last night asking me to another golf lunch, but it is the day we are leaving so I declined. It was nice to get the call.
I'm not going to weigh myself before I go as I can feel that I have put on weight. G weighed this morning & he is the highest he has been for years (83kg). I'll weigh when we get back home & start my diet seriously (whatever form it will take).
I really don't want to go through all the angst of packing for a big trip again. I find that part really stressful.

The packing I don't mind at all but wherever I go I'm always ludicrously nervous for at least a week, just because I might miss my flight.

That's really nice the women at your old club are appreciating you now! I need to get serious about losing my last 15 pounds, so I'll join you in a concentrated effort when you get back. In the mean time, eat lots of delicious Greek food for me!!!

I don't mind the packing or the prospect of missing the flight. For me it is airport security and worrying we will have a computer or something stolen while trying to keep track of all the belts, keys, shoes, cameras, toiletries, etc. I really don't like walking stocking feet where thousands of people have just walked with their dirty shoes either. But you have your dreaded part done, so all down hill from here!!

Hi, LaMa. I'm always very early to make sure that we are not stressed about missing flights. I don't mind killing time at airports.
Hi, Marsia. It is nice that they keep me in mind. I rang one of them yesterday as it was her birthday. It was a lovely call.
I don't worry about airport security or worrying that something will get stolen. I don't actually take anything valuable really, but also don't take my eyes off my bag. I'm always with G, so that makes it easier. I also never have to take my shoes off as I make sure I wear really comfy slip-ons. I hate having to take my shoes off!
Only 3 days to go!
I had another look at my clothes yesterday & decided to leave all my tops in. There's not much really.
We had the GK's for the day yesterday & really enjoyed the day. Our 11 yr old GS is a very funny boy. He really makes me laugh. He's such a cutie.
We're off to the tip today so that we come home to a clean house. We might even vacuum & do an Autumn clean tomorrow. On Monday I decided we would have a trip to Dev. & put in an early vote as we will be away for the Aust elections. I would rather get it done Monday, rather than do it on the way on Tuesday.
When I get back, Marsia I will be keen to join you in losing weight. I would love to lose 8 kilos. I am not weighing until I get back.

I'm always ludicrously early for my flights so I know the fear of missing one is irrational but sadly that doesn't make it go away. I guess we all have our hang-ups.

We sure do. At least we spread them around & vary them between us :)
I have put in another pair of earrings, a pair of compression stockings & some thermal underwear for when we get home as it is freezing!

Your grandson sounds wonderful. My daughter loves joking around and her favorite thing in the world is laughter. It's wonderful having someone like that in your life! I agree, we have a good, healthy number of the basic hang-ups covered between all of us - no worries there! :)

Happy voting!!

Oh, Marsia, laughter is so refreshing. CC really makes me laugh. He is teaching himself Russian & Morse code. He says it's very hard getting the Russian accent right when you're only 11. He is so sweet!
Voting- Just when I felt confident that the party I usually vote for was doing ok, they mess up again. I loathe our current conservative government, but the only other real option, the Labour Party is just too similar. I have very strong left-wing & environmental views but the greens party here will never actually be able to have a majority(while I'm alive anyway) so it feels like a wasted vote in the lower house anyway. I often vote labour in the lower house & green in the upper house to keep them in check. *sigh* Politicians.......Wouldn't it be good if they stuck to their promises?.......In a perfect world.
