Cate's Diary

A friend of mine spent a couple of weeks in Sri Lanka two years back but she also went someplace else afterwards and I can´t remember which she was absolutely in love with and which she considered touristy, grubby and unpleasant :p

Ha ha. You're a great help LaMa :smilielol5:
I'm sure we'll love it!
I have been in L'city ALL day long & I am knackered. I dropped G off at golf on the way & picked him up on the way home. I managed to get most of the things on my list but didn't get a cotton shirt. I don't have a cotton shirt. Isn't that just a little bit crazy? Everything is synthetic & it's the tail end of the warm season here & there's Winter clothing everywhere. It was an exhausting day!

 No cotton shirts? I... don´t think I have anything BUT cotton shirts. No, that´s a lie, I have some polyester sweaters. I can only wear them over a cotton undershirt though, or my skin will get cranky within two hours. Glad to hear your hypersensitivity knows some boundaries :p

I know. It's weird really, but I'm glad I can wear synthetics as you don't get much choice these days.
Allergies & hypersensitivities can vary so much from person to person. You & Q react so strongly to many foods, but except for wheat & capsicums(bell peppers) & recently dairy, I don't so much. I react in a totally different way to fragrance & chemicals than my sister. She doesn't have Asthma. I can wear things she can't. I'm very grateful that I can. She can wear a mask & I can't breathe with one on. I do have a couple of cotton shirts tucked away that I never wear as one's white(it's actually linen & was my MIL's) & the other is mostly cotton but is black & white with a big pattern on it. I'm not really into big patterns. I'll take them both though.
Thanks for the links Cate. I googled some images of it there, it looks absolutely stunning.
It does, doesn't it? It's definitely countdown time! Only 13 more days!
Hope you have a good time on your trip.
Thank you Butterfly xo

It would be more easy to cater for allergies if they were all the same, but... Let´s see it as practice for dealing with all the other marvelous differences between people.

True LaMa.
I'm good thanks, Emily :)
My allergies have been running amok recently. I react more & more to fragrance. I'm thinking of getting an air purifier for our bedroom at least. I'm not sure I can put up with the white noise it will make though.
Very excited/nervous about our trip. It's mostly having the right clothes etc that bothers me when I travel. Plus the allergy thing. People get so thingy about their fragranced products......

Some people get awfully offended if you´re allergic to anything they use/own/do. Which is probably either something to do with not wanting to own feeling guilty about (unknowingly) having caused our discomfort or a lack of understanding what allergies and intolerances are. Austrians are a bit backward where smoking is concerned, for example, and people will sometimes get angry if I explain that I really can´t sit in the smoking area with them (or they really can´t smoke in my place) because my eyes and skin get inflamed and stay horribly itchy for hours. They think I´m just being obnoxious because I want them to stop smoking. And while, yes, I would definitely prefer people I like not to do things that are harmful to their health and , yes, I would prefer not to have to deal with the stench (I mean: I´d be allowed to be angry if they farted in my face all the time and that wouldn´t even cause health issues!) but I fully respect that grown-up people can make their own choices about what they do with their lives (I´m not exactly a paragon of virtue, healthwise) so, no, I don´t mind that you smoke as long as you don´t harm me or your kids with it.
Sorry, that turned out a bit long...

They do! Most people don't have a clue.
I have come home itching all over. My usual olfactory alerts deserted me today. I wasn't aware of any particular fragrance attacks, but have had a major reaction today. It really scares me!

Haha, I am one of those people who is very dubious about other people's 'allergies'. My mum is convinced that she is allergic to chicken, eggs, feathers, etc. She breaks out in hives apparently. But I want the proof! Ha.

That's so funny. I'm laughing all the way to the ER.

Oh, Emily. I'll let this one go. I hope for your sake that you don't develop any.

I'm off to golf today. The sun is shining & we have a few days of lovely weather. I'm feeling much better today.

Glad you're feeling better, hon. Back in uni I was struggling quite a bit with my allergies. Then we went on a 6-week field work trip and surprisingly I came back feeling *much* better. So maybe Sri Lanka will do the same for you.

Thanks. LaMa. I had a good day- lousy golf, but pleasant company. It feels good to be out there, participating in healthy exercise in fresh air. Having a lazy day at home with G today.
