Cate's Diary

Sri Lanka is a wonderful trip to be looking forward to... I'm certainly jealous.

As for creeps - all walks of life have them - so I doubt that anything would be gained in the long run by permanently switching away from your local club. Having said that - it could be nice if you and your husband went and visited a few other clubs a little further away sometimes... Its quite nice to have different groups of friends - and can fire a shot across the bows of people full of their importance at being a big fish in a little pond...

LaMa- I don't really know. It just is.
Sunflower- Thanks, hon. I think it helps too. I don't share my feelings much anywhere else. I haven't got everything we need yet. I've been trying not to think about it too much so I don't worry, but it's 3 weeks from Saturday now, so I had better!
Omega- I know you're right. There are creeps everywhere & I have to find a way of not letting them get to me & affecting my life. Sri Lanka should be fun. I found a link that I had missed to accommodation on our tour & all the places look great. All bar one have a pool! Yay & eek!

It's nearly time to go to golf. The sun is shining. I have capris on & G who always wears shorts to golf has long pants. That is weird. He thought it weird that I had capris on. Last time I played at another club(with him) I was the only one to wear long pants.

OK- I have to go soon........

Thanks, Emily. I know. I pushed through it & enjoyed my day but was still very nervous for most of the day. I enjoyed the company of the women I played with though, but I didn't play well.
I'm off to play in our local women's comp. today. The woman who gave me a lift yesterday won the raffle with one of the tickets I bought her as a thank you for driving me there. She won a beautiful watch. She loved it! So did I :) Prizes are normally fairly ordinary, but this was really lovely. She was so chuffed!
After playing at this other course it will be hard to come back to ours. Our greens are off & I'm not sure they will survive. The greens at the course I played yesterday were absolutely beautiful & you could read your putts. I putted better than I can. Today will be difficult, but I will be back in my comfort zone. I have to remember that once it was not my comfort zone at all. You can push through.

That´s really nice :) It is fun to see other people happy and feel you had a bit of a hand in it.

Yes you can. And there are people who say that life happens outside of your comfort zone. I don´t agree completely, because I would be terribly unhappy if I had to spend the majority of my life outside of my comfort zone, but it´s true that sometimes you have to go outside for a while to come back and see that your lovely den has -over time- got more ragged and funky than you were really aware of. And then it´s time to change. Or to enlarge your comfort zone.

Sometimes I think just being alive is out of my comfort zone. Ha. What I mean is, my circle of comfort is tiny. But I'm chiselling away at it the whole time. :)

Thanks, LaMa, Hana & Emily. I had a lovely day at golf yesterday & spoke to the women about the day before. I was asked why I had felt so nervous & I tried explaining why. I also said that I had felt like it when I first joined them, but now feel comfortable. They were very sweet actually. One of the older women came up to me in the kitchen to say that she thought I had maybe taken on too much responsibility too soon & she was glad that I could now relax & enjoy golf. I know that she wasn't being critical & was being kind. I had played with her yesterday.
I love our conversations after golf. I used to want to escape & get home after golf & now I join in. They talk about anything & everything & it's fun. They have been friends for decades & I felt like a bit of an outsider but I am definitely feeling like I am being included now.

I am feeling a bit tired today after playing 18 holes of golf 2 days in a row. I have a non motorised push buggy & our course is fairly hilly. I think G & I might have a bit of a quiet day today.

Only 4 & 1/2 years Rebel. I got a call from one of the women golfers asking me if I was interested in having group lessons, I said yes & got the golfing bug :)

Cool.... It was just a question bouncing around inside my head. It's roomy in there ya-know. ;)

I asked myself the same questions with this post. Up until now I´d assumed you´ve been playing for decades :)

So am I :)

I'm glad to be asked any questions. I'm very curious too.
I'm glad I can relax & enjoy it more now too LaMa. I'm feeling better about it all every day. I did take on too much too soon. I have learned a very valuable lesson though.
Only 3 weeks to go from Saturday for our trip. I am getting very excited. I got our visa organised this morning & our travel pack arrived from the tour company. It really does sound good!

How exciting. I presumed you'd been playing golf for years as well. Did you have another sport you were into before golf? Is it rude to ask what your handicap is? :p

I did bushwalking for a few years before I took up golf Emily. It's not rude to ask but it's a bit embarrassing to tell you that my handicap is 27. It started at 45. I can't see myself getting it down below 20. If I had started when I was young it may have been a different story.

Hi Cate,

As you know golf is great exercise and fun to do. Don't worry about your handicap. You have come a long way since you started. I find it very relaxing and it is nice to get out to do something other than run once in a while-haha. I have been golfing for about 45 years( since I was 10) but I haven't done much in the past few years as it is very expensive here. I think once I retire, golf is going to be something I immerse myself in.

Have fun on your trip!

Hi, Cowboy. I think a lot of people take up golf when they are no longer working as it is very time-consuming. I love it! Our local club's fees are only $410 AU for the year & we only pay $6 to enter comps! For an extra $25 a year I leave my bag & buggy in a locker at the club. It's a cheap sport here really. I'm still using G's old clubs, rather than the beginners set I bought when I first started. It's as expensive as you want it to be here though if you always want the latest clubs or gizmos. I'm keeping it simple. It's great exercise & I can laugh at my bad shots. I'm pretty good at chipping onto the greens & I can drive quite well usually.
G & I have nothing planned for Easter. He is playing golf tomorrow & I may go into L'city & get a couple of things for our trip. I don't usually wear straight cotton clothing, but it will be very hot. We need a travel adaptor too as I don't have the right one for SL. I might ask on FB to borrow one as I probably won't need it again.
I am getting very excited now about the trip!

Ah, your trip is going to be phenomenal. I know absolutely nothing about Sri Lanka. What kind of stuff can you do there? What's the food like? Is there a big tourist industry? I only know about Sri Lanka as somewhere where people are starving and I should give them money. Is this a wrong impression?
