Cate's Diary

I'm actually quite excited about doing I.F.
Day 1- fast (500cals)- I waited until after 12 to eat anything & then had a hard-boiled egg, 1 small raw carrot & a large stalk of celery-weighed each & only 96 cals. :D
I have some strawberries ready for later, have plated up & weighed my dinner(Venison curry, vegetable curry & some rice) & it's only 310 cals, so will have 77cals to play with. That can be another egg if I'm still hungry after dinner. Not too bad. I also did some wood with G, went for a walk & am about to drink another pot of herbal. Not struggling at all. This is going to be doable. Let's hope it works! :D

I've heard good things about 5:2, another form of IF. Glad you had a great day one. Look forward to reading your updates.

It's the 5:2 that I'm doing KP. I am trying to ignore the hunger! I'm telling myself it's good for me!

I have heard a lot of positives doing the 5:2 diet, good luck Cate! A friend has lost over 15kgs on it, she looks amazing. I'd love to try it again, but will hear how you find it.

Can you drink tea/flavored water to curb the hunger?

Never tried intermittent fasting, was always curious as to how it would go. Now I have you as my personal test subject to observe. :) The scientific data on it is very interesting.

Hopefully this works well for you. Hunger is a tough thing, it can be ignored for a while anyway, humans adapted and survived in environments where long bouts of involuntary hunger was the norm. I'm betting the next day the food tastes pretty damned good.

Hi BB. I got through the first day really well & got off to a flying start with a 1kg loss. I had lost 1.5kg in the few weeks beforehand so was excited to lose another so quickly. I think delaying eating anything until after 12 helped as then I could break up the 500 cals between 2 meals. It wasn't hard. I drank copious quantities of herbal tea & water & black coffee first thing. I even exercised- not crazily, just some wood gathering for a little while & then a 20 minute "bushwalk".

Hi Vee. I have heard so many good things about this too & I watched the series on TV & it was compelling. I coped pretty well with the first day & feel really good today. Losing a kilo helped of course, but not having a full belly when I woke up felt great!
It's funny, but I almost turned around & did the second fast day today, but decided I had better think longer term & not set myself up for failure. Michael Mosley recommends having a break between the days, so that's what I'll do. I'll most probably "fast" again on Thursday I think. Mondays & Thursdays I usually stay at home.

I feel so good just being that much lighter. This could be a new way for me. Early days yet, but feeling good so far.
&.....I'm now in the race! 4.5kg to go, is so much better than being 1kg over my start weight!
Cheers & love to all, xoxo Cate

Glad it's going so well! Don't be surprised to see a small gain after one of your 'maintenance' days due to the increase in food volume and sodium in your system but those low cal days can really help bring down access water weight!
I think it's a good idea to break up your fasting days. You'd probably feel pretty hungry and tired at the end of the second consecutive day!

I won't be disappointed Mystic, as I won't weigh myself, except for after fasting days. Sounds like a good plan to me. I won't be eating at TDEE as I don't think I can anymore. On the 5 days I think I'll stick to about 14-1500 cals, not 2000. Anyhow, I was so relieved to see a loss this morning, after trying for so long, without any success. I won't be over compensating on the "off fast" days by over-eating as I just don't want to. Feeling really good & very positive.

Separating the two days sounds like a great idea, I'm glad you stuck with the original plan. We all know how easy it is to get gung ho about a new method and then immediately burn out!

Being gung ho & going all out & burning is so familiar. I woke up dying to fast today & G suggested I stick to the plan & still do tomorrow. He's right. Next minute he was cooking me a delicious chorizo, mushroom & zucchini omelette. :D
Didn't go to golf. I had everything ready, including lunch. My back, neck & shoulders are very painful & the thought of facing the women was way too daunting. A day at home with G is much more appealing!
I'll be back later to catch up with everyone's diaries xo C

Hi KP. I'm playing with the men on Saturday.
Golfing women- One of my favourites, R, is away in Turkey. When she gets back I'll be able to organise to play in a 3 with her & B, the one who was treated really badly. There are 2 women who always play together & I often play with them. They're both lovely. Another is back in the UK & has Cancer & is having chemo etc. I "chatted" to her on FB the other night & told her about B being treated badly & she said she'd give her a ring. I said that B would kill me if she knew I had said anything. She rang & didn't mention the women or golf & later I got a message from B, telling me about the call & how it made her day! Nice. There are some really lovely women, but they mostly aren't playing golf at the moment. Another lovely woman is staying away at the moment & I think that is because she was disgusted about the way B was treated.
Rather than stay away I should try to fix the toxic culture of some of the women. I'll call them the old guard.

Fast day 2 today.
I made a vegetable soup yesterday so that I would know exactly how many calories are in it. I can have it any time I like during the day & it's 207 cals in total. I'm about to go work out what else I'll eat for the day. You know, this amount of strictness, suits my brain. I think I have said it before, but I am an all or nothing person.
I foolishly weighed this morning & that kilo that I "lost" Monday is back on. I feel confident that it will be gone again tomorrow though, hopefully taking a little something along with it!

Time to work out what else I'm going to have today.....
Cheers, xo Cate

Glad you were able to help make someone's day!
I'm glad the IF is working out well for you. It's great when you find something that works for you!

Thanks Mystic. I am really hoping it works for me. It is not easy & on the 2 fast days so far I am thinking of food all the time- not necessarily because I'm hungry, but because I have to be so strict. I have everything weighed out & I am about to eat the last of the soup, which I made too spicy & then I have some fruit & a dollop of yoghurt weighed out in the fridge. Fingers & toes crossed for a nice loss tomorrow.
I won't be back in the forum until the afternnon as we are taking our OGS to the airport at sparrow's fart (have to get up at 6.15!
Bye for now!

:blush5: sparrows fart is just really early in the morning. That's funny that I put that in!

Just got back from "town" & have had a very short haircut. :) The curls were a novelty, but I much prefer having short, wispy hair. I'm now ready for Spring!

Weighed this morning. Was not impressed. 5.5kg to go. Hopefully this is a glitch & tomorrow that pesky kilo will be gone again. My weight fluctuates so much, but I really didn't expect to weigh an extra kilo after a 500cal day! :(
I'm not really grumpy, just a tad disappointed.
Anyhow, I'm having a chill out afternoon, after a very early start. Our GS looked very grown-up getting on that plane this morning. He's off to a Defence Forces Open Day in Canberra tomorrow.
Bye for now, xo Cate

I've been reading a lot about reasons for weight fluctuations. And there are a lot of reasons why your weight can appear to go up and down. Firstly its difficult to put on a pound of fat in one day (you would have to eat an extra 3500 calories to what your body needed and have it all turn into fat) Glycogen gets stored in your liver I think and that fluctuates and affects your weight. Excess salt intake retains water which can make you weigh more. And the food that you have not yet digested fully and waste that you've not gotten rid of. I can't remember exactly what else there was but I think there was more reasons.

Oh, Rebecca, I know, but it doesn't stop you getting frustrated! I know, it's illogical. Thanks for visiting my diary sweets xo

Fair enough. It is tricky to battle with what your brain knows to be true but what your brain also doesn't quite trust in ! It's never quite that easy is it!
