Cate's Diary

"Carpet in the gardens, huh? Interesting."
To stop weeds coming through, until I build more beds to fill up the spaces. It's a bit weird, but then,I am :)

Hi Carrie. I am looking forward to picking it up! My SIL is away until next week & we'll have to drive in to get it (120km return) but will soon.
Hi ho, hi ho, I'm off to golf again! I had a full on day yesterday & went to 8-ball last night. I don't like driving at night any more. Country roads are not really well marked & of course don't have street lights & my eyes are tired at the end of the day. People leave their headlights on full beam until you're almost upon them, so you're constantly trying to keep your eye on the white line on the side of the road & they are not redone that often. You also have to be very wary of wallabies hopping onto the road! It was a late'ish night, but I slept well (again!)
Better scoot! Much love to all, xo Cate

Jen, they are SOOO cute. I often have to stop for them on the road up to our place. They just have absolutely no road sense. Any night of the week I can step out onto our decking, shine a torch around & see at least 5 wallabies. Last night the sky was magnificent. The stars were so bright & the Milky Way looked magical!

I was runner-up in Division 2 at golf again yesterday & played a lot better than I did at the week-end. That is the 3rd full round of golf I have played in 5 days! Unfortunately I fell sound asleep in my chair & then last night I was wide awake for HOURS. I will have to get G to wake me up if(when) it happens again.

We are having a day at home today & might take it easy. Might....

You look our for wallabies, we look out for deer!
Having a nap can feel fantastic, but it can seriously mess up your sleep at night when you need it most!

Hi Mystic & Carrie- No naps yesterday & a good night's sleep. I think golf has really improved my fitness & stamina & it's also good for your brain, if you don't get too frustrated. So many decisions to make!

We have a full on day today in 'town'(60km away). My car is having a warranty service(75K) & it takes ages. I need to get some new slacks- warm, comfortable ones that are suitable for golf, with pockets. Ha! Wish me luck. G needs a nice shirt, amongst other things. We'll have lunch somewhere. It will be healthy. We usually spend all day walking all over town & getting exhausted, but I asked if they have a courtesy car &, for only $10(to cover the excess on the insurance) we can use it, so we will. It may make them be a bit quicker! It's a rainy day & I'll be pleased to get back home. I'm feeling fairly lazy.

:) what she said. And I hope your car will be done soon; I had a steeple-chase-day with "mine" on wednesday and I decided that utility objects either just have to function or burn up like a phoenix - leaving behind a newer model.

We were home by 4.30 & I got 2 pairs of slacks, G got a nice pair too. He didn't find a shirt, but did, at least look. He HATES shopping. We had a good day, but I am pleasantly, but well & truly tired & I must not go to sleep in my chair! Called in to see Mum on the way home, so tomorrow I can stay at home!! YAY!!

Wooop good to hear of a successful shopping trip! Enjoy tomorrow's rest day. It sounds like you deserve it.

Thanks Carrie. I may not have a lazy day, but will spend the day at home. I may do some more carpeting of the garden area & put the pots back where they were or may do some re-potting. It's time to get the garden right for Winter. It will be herbs, herbs & more herbs, with some spinach, & garlic.

I had one of the most delicious breakfasts this morning. G made a Sri Lankan chicken drumstick curry the other day & it had lots of sauce left over, after freezing it into portions of 4 drumsticks. I froze most of it, except for the meat off 1 drummy & a container of sauce& we had that hot, on sourdough toast with a hard-boiled egg & sprinkled with fresh Coriander & parsley. YUM!!!It was sensational. I can eat anything for breakfast really, but struggle to eat cereal, which to me seems like pig food.

I saw a Naturopath at a health-food store yesterday & showed her a list of what I take (meds & vitamins) & she asked me if I have much pain. I said that was the main reason I wanted to talk to her. She said it may stem from taking statins for cholesterol. It has not been making sense to me that the more I move the more I hurt. I thought it was Arthritis that was causing my pain & you are always hearing "move it, or you'll lose it" & I have been moving lots & hurting even more. *light bulb moment* I knew something was awry. She has given me something to take while I am still taking statins & advised me of something else if I go off them. I am going to tweak some of the other things I take & drop a couple. She said I should have an improvement in 2 weeks.

Meanwhile I have an appointment next Friday for a flu jab & also my new doc will have got the results of my last blood tests & I will discuss going off the statins. I am on a low dose (40mg) If the pain has been coming from them all along it will be wonderful if it went away. Sometimes almost every part of me hurts.

That curry seemed awesome... i love cabbage in my curry. slurp.

i hope the pain goes away soon... will cutting diary help? my frend does that when she feels pain in her body thats out of norm. prayin you hv good results on those tests!

Whoops! I almost forgot my own diary!
jubilee- I rarely eat dairy. I used to think it was something I was eating, but I have eliminated most acidic food(only eat Roma tomatoes for eg.) & have also assumed all along the pain was from Arthritis, but it was not adding up. It is a fairly constant thing, but not debilitating. It also comes and goes, although lately it has been fairly constant. My tests are just the usual once a year ones, when you are on cholesterol meds. My battle will be trying to convince the doc that I would like to go off them & try alternative medication. It is my body, but I would prefer support. She is new & young & you never know.

Hi Mystic- The pain has been a constant for a couple of years really, but I thought I was stuck with it. It doesn't get me down majorly. It's just there. Not having it would be wonderful!
The curry is sensational! It's a Charmaine Solomon recipe-
http://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipes/chicken-curry
Her book "The Complete Asian Cookbook" is our most used one, along with Stephanie Alexander's "The Cook's Companion" which is often described as the kitchen bible. Both books are wonderful!
Yesterday- I finished off putting down all the old woollen carpet around the raised beds in the veggie garden. It should keep the weeds down for years. This garden is on a side of the house that visitors would not go in. It looks a bit on the weird side, but is great underfoot. It will mean being able to go pick herbs in Winter, without getting wet ankles. I have left a couple of metres of grass for our little dog to use for her toilet. If I find she goes on the carpet, it won't be as successful :( Time will tell.....
It was hard work cutting the carpet & heavy, but it's done. I am in quite a bit of pain today though & may not do a lot today. Once again, time will tell. It is a lovely, sunny day!
Cheers & love to all xoxo Cate

That curry does sound sensational - I may spread the recipe around a bit so other people can cook it for me some time :p Not much of a large amount/long kitchen time cook...
Would be curious to know how your dog reacts to having inside-stuff (carpet) outside :)
