Cate's Diary

Hi Maryann, Yep I’m fine now thanks! Played another 18 holes of golf yesterday & enjoyed myself even more. The snobby MD’s wife was quite a bit friendlier but I got lucky & ended up in a different group who were very nice & encouraging. Having a wine afterwards was fun & I was daydreaming a little when I realised they were talking about me saying that I will be a good golfer. Talk about BLUSH! It was a good day, I have pulled up fairly well today. I don’t think it will take me long to get used to playing 18 holes & it will be good for my arms as well as my legs. It’s such a healthy outdoor sport. I love it! I have some things to do now so had better get moving. I am enjoying a whole day at home, which will be lovely! Love to all, xo Cate

Sounds like u are going to have a fun season with golf this year - U go girl !

( I looked up calorie burn with golf a few weeks back - it suprised me ) - and 18holes should be major cals each time out...U will be skinny-minnie in time for Europe !

AH Cate, I'm new on here and so many of you here are an inspirationfor me. As far as husbands go they will alwaus be jealous i really cannot figure them out. As there is no reason to be. I feel abit lonely on my weightloss journey as unlike yours my husband thinks i am good the way i am and gets worried anytime i try to look better or dress better. Otherwise he is a real loving guy.Anyway alone or not i will lose and come out a winner

Hi Oohlala, my husband is no longer jealous, but he sure needed some reassurance as I was losing weight. Men do a good job usually of seeming brimming with confidence but, deep down they still suffer the same insecurities as the rest of us. Try to reassure him gently that you want to lose weight to be healthier & fitter & that you are happy with him, but not happy with what you weigh.

I want to grow old with my husband & to be able to enjoy an active & healthy life with him & I felt bad about myself weighing what I did. It strengthens your relationship if you trust and support one another. I probably let him know more often these days how much I love him so there can be no doubt. After 41 years together a relationship could easily become complacent but it's nice to keep it loving.

I think it's wonderful that you find inspiration in the forum. It has helped me to keep up motivation & stopped me boring my friends & family as much. Instead I rabbit on here!

Thanks for your visit Oohlala. I always love having visitors in my diary. Cheers, Cate.

AHey Cate,
Sorry I have neglected your diary...been traveling too much! Looks like you are turning into a real golfer...playing 18 holes...takes a lot of time and like Maryannc says, burns a lot of calories! I'm happy the weather is turning a bit warmer for you and you are over your cold and sickness. Take care my friend and you continue to inspire me and many others here! Thank you!!

Sarah

Hi Sarah, no…..thank YOU! No apologies necessary. You are a very busy woman. The forum is successful, I think, because it is a pressure-free support system. Any support we get or give is openly given, without strings or guilt, like all good friendships should be. That’s how I like to look at it anyway.

A milestone for me-

Yesterday marked a whole year that I have been logging online on My Fitness Pal. I think that I need to switch things around every now & then, as I was really struggling the last few months with it & cutting corners. Keeping track of everything I ate & exercised was becoming an absolute chore & I was railing against it. I also was avoiding the scales.

Today is day 1 of the next stage. I am mentally formulating my next plan as I type (often the case.) I will be back in here every day now and am having a break from MFP. I am not going to keep track of food and am going to cut starchy carbs especially & not count calories. I am going to exercise every day for a minimum of 30 minutes, golf once a week minimum & am aiming for 200km a month on my exercise bike. I keep track of exercise in an exercise book, next to my bike. I’ll put my weigh-ins in that too.

Weigh-in will be Mon, Wed & Fri every week.

My scales say I gained 2kg over the week-end, but I know that can't possibly be fat. I still didn't like seeing it & will be extra vigilant for a while. Weighing often can do your head in, but regaining fat would do my head in even more!

I feel good about myself & the fact that I know I can control my weight. It is not easy but then, that’s ok too.

Love to all, xoxo Cate

A really good day today. Freed from my restriction of logging all of my food I feel liberated & strangely, have eaten much less that I have for months. Maybe it's because I don't know exactly how many calories I am having so am restricting it, just in case. Who knows? Whatever the reason I'm happy with the outcome. I am left with more time that's for sure and am going to enjoy the change.

Hopefully it won't be raining tomorrow, as it is now, as I will play golf again with the women. I will weigh again tomorrow & hopefully will have lost a little weight. If not I will soon.

Hope all are well & happy, xoxo Cate.

Hey Cate - congrat's on Milestone ! one whole year of posting on MFP ! major accomplishment & "stick-to-it-ness" ....that was a lot of logging gal....

U rock !
th_Ribbonblue1stPrize.gif

~ I like your plan of starchy-carbs OUT ! , Exercise - IN ! - and the simple tracking of a note-book beside your bike.

...sounds like a sound plan....that will be far easier to track.....

.... interesting that you are already finding that Not-logging food eaten ( just "restricting" type of food ) is already changing your eating habits a bit....I think I remember in Sarah's diary that she didn't count calories at the beginning.... it would be nice to Not have to write everything down.... I might "treat" myself for some week next month that way...and see what the scale says.... a bit tempting.... ;)

and yup - weight-maintenance not as hard-work as loss, but still does take a bit of attention.... and I agree with Ya - anything worthwhile always takes a bit of work ( otherwise...we wouldn't appreciate the end-outcome would we ? ....lol...)

~ good luck for your golf-game tomorrow ...hope it's fun & the sun comes out....

cheers

Maryann .

Hi Sarah, Maryann & anyone else reading my diary. I think tracking what you eat for a year is a good idea as it gives you a really good idea of calories in food & exercise &, combined with weekly weighing tells you what you need to either lose weight or maintain. It takes ages to develop good new habits so Maryann I would continue logging for a while yet to try to avoid disappointment. I will go back to logging again if my weight creeps up again! I had just got sick of doing it really & was reacting a little against it all & also not weighing myself. Consequently I am currently 3kg above where I was a month ago! :svengo:It happens & I'm far from perfect. Now I have to get rid of it again. Weighing for me is VERY important. There's no point hiding from them.

I played 18 holes of golf again yesterday & enjoyed it just as much. I will be pleased when my stamina builds as by the time I get to the 15th I am KNACKERED. The last 2 holes were atrocious AGAIN. I finished up 11 shots better than last week & 15 better than the week before so that's good. The doctor's wife was really nice to me this week. We played together & maybe she got to know me a little better. She said that she was excited to be able to see me get better & better & said she thought I would be a really good golfer. I asked her at one stage why none of the women play with pink balls & that I had seen some pink Srixon balls very cheaply from an eBay seller & she said if I bought them she would go halves with me. I will now as it seemed too many balls ( 3boxes) just for me She likes that brand too and we both were playing with them & had to be very careful all day that we didn't get them mixed up.

There was no-one yesterday who made me feel uncomfortable or not welcome. On the contrary, they were all nice & I felt a part of it all. They are being a little bit excited about my game though as it's very early days. They had the presentation and thanked me for playing in it :)blush5:) & then asked if anyone else had anything to say so I put my hand up & thanked them all for being so welcoming & awarded myself with a wooden spoon. That got a big laugh & the captain said she had thought about getting one but thought she'd better not. As we had a couple of wines I was asked to write on it & then I added my scores for each round on the back & a few of them said they are looking forward to next years tournament & that i will probably win my division. Oh my goodness! All in all, while I feel they're being WAY too excited about my golfing ability it feels nice to be so welcomed. I am happy that i took the plunge & joined!

Went out to 8-ball with my LH last night & had a fairly late night & am pretty tired today. One very lazy day coming up but maybe with a10k stationary bike ride in there somewhere.

Love to all xo Cate.

Hey Cate - thx for the advice that wise to get a good lot of months logging food under ones belt before braving no logging - ( so I'll stick with my logging for now).

Glad to hear your golf tourney went so well, & that the Doctor's wife is warming up to ya...( U are so sweet - I couldn't see it otherwise.... lol.):p

....U do well to not get tired until 15th hole....I get wiped just doing 9 - U go Miss Cate ! skinny minnie for Europe- here U come....

...& I 'm so happy to hear how much you are enjoying golfing - it is a win-win to find a calorie-burn activity that you enjoy just for doing it - then the calorie-burn is just bonus !!

I like pink-golf balls myself ( they look so pretty- & seems like an easy color to find in the grass - I'm not good-enuf to pay attention to brands - but I do like Pink ones ! ) ....

What is 8-ball?....( don't use that term here in Canada....is it bowling ?? .... )

Hope U enjoy your upcoming lazy day ( well earned after all that golf) & happy cycling with your plan for 10K stationry bike.

cheers

Maryann .

Hi Maryann & AnnaGail. Maryann 8-ball is pool, similar to snooker or billiards, but on a smaller table. I haven't got on that bike yet! Just being lazy so far.... I am quite stiff today but glad that I have managed to play 18 holes each week, for the last 3 weeks. I have put a bid on ebay for the balls & couldn't find the original 'buy now' ones that were so cheap. Hopefully I'll get these ones as they are the same. I'm embracing the pink with golf. I thought that if I'm going to join the women I may as well go with the pink as well! I can hear my husband on the chainsaw so had better go give him a hand. Maybe my day won't be quite so lazy after all! Cheers to you both & thanks for the visits, xo Cate

Missed a couple of days! Did ride my bike that day (10km) & another 7.5 yesterday. have had the GK's today & am a bit tired & am going around to our OS's place soon & we are having a party for his 32nd birthday. My LH will come straight from golf. Will be doing lots of walking tomorrow as my LH is playing golf on a very hilly course towards Cradle Mountain & I am going to walk the course with him. I feel a little blimp like today. Monday morning I think I'll be very strict for a week. VERY strict! Love to all xo Cate

Hey Cate - good to hear U are keeping up the daily Ex.bike. - Every DAY ! ( we all know too well - that DAILY is the secret ! ) :troll:

Have fun with the GK's...& Hope the family Birthday gathering is nice ( only 1 piece BDAy cake?? )....lol.

Walking on the hilly course sounds perfect - get that "blimp" feeling in line & ready for a stick-to-it week next week

Yes exactly positive attitude is very important for keeping up the determination. I think for loosing weight one more thing is important and that is avoiding all those recipes which contain high amount of gluten protein. By following a healthy diet and regular exercise one will surely accomplish his/her goal of loosing weight.
