Cate's Diary

Hey Cate - glad to hear you are Chirpy ( paints a nice cheerful picture) !
36_33_2.gif

...still cold/snowy here - so its' nice to hear things are brighter on your side of the world ! at least somewhere there is sunshine ( I can picture it by picturing sunny Taz....) ( it is forecast for sunshine here tomorrow ...I can hardly wait ! )

10Km on your ex.bike is terrific - I'll have to pay attention on my treadmill how far I go ( I just go by the time usually- 1/2hr...but should start looking at the distance too ....lol. )

What I've been doing for drinks is to have a light-beer ( I really like Coors Lite Mojito Beers- bit of lime & mint flavor - only ~ 120cals ) - they're quite filling , and you know for sure how much/& how many calories you've had - 1 beer can is always 120cals...wine can be tricky - as don't know for sure how full the glass is , & trying to remember how many glasses, did you top-up before totally empty...etc etc...( not sure if beer fits in with your ladies club...but I like a nice cool one on a warm day :)
bth_beer-glass.jpg

Gardening & a walk out in warm sunshine sounds lovely ( I am jealous...) - I have a date with my treadmill tomorrow - not near as much fun....

Do you plant flowers? veggies ? ...anything coming up/blooming yet?

hope U have a great weekend gal ,

Maryann

AHey Cate, so fun to hear about spring on your side of the world,, as my side of the world goes into winter! So, are you ready for the big European vacation? My next trip to Europe is probably in April of next year, except to pass through the Paris airport on my way somewhere else.
Hope you're having a great weekend, and love seeing you back on mfp!

Sarah

Hey Cate - you asked if I'm on My Fittness Pal - nope ..

.I find it takes enuf time to just log on WLF here daily , don't have the energy to keep up with a second site - ...

...I use the CalorieKing site when I need to look up calories in a new food , and have a couple links for calorie burn with various exercise.

~but will check out MFPal - sounds like it's a good site...

cheers,

Maryann

Maryann- I don't like the taste of beer I'm afraid, but I do keep tabs of my wine. Usually we will share a 750ml bottle at home, but when we're out I'm usually driving so have a max of 3 drinks over an evening, but also wine glasses now have to have a line on them at the 150ml mark. It's all about 'responsible serving of alcohol". It helps to keep track. I don't drink wine every night but over-indulged after golf last Wednesday. The women are quite sociable & stay behind for a glass or 2. My problem is that I then go out to 8-ball(pool) that night as well. A little self-restraint is required!

The My Fitness Pal site is really good & there is a great free app. which is quick. The more you use it, especially if you save regular meals the less time consuming it is. I logged every day for a whole year & have just had a few weeks off but have started again. It keeps me more mindful & aware of what I eat.

I didn't end up going for a walk but did do some gardening. I am planting out vegetable seedlings & some more herbs. I'm not into ornamental gardening but have a mostly Australian native garden, but do try to have a a mix of flowering shrubs, like Callistemons (Bottle-brush) etc. I just love being outside. At this time of year I feel a little like a lizard coming out to bask in the sun. Ha ha- I'm chirpy one minute & a lizard the next!

Thanks for being such a regular poster in my diary Maryann. It gets so boring without visits, xo Cate.

Sarah- Wow! How about you, running 24km! I'm in awe! That is truly amazing! How fit are you going to be on your Europe vacation? I feel that I am ready for ours as it's booked & paid for. I'm so excited! Even if I didn't lose a solitary kilo between now & then I know that I would be ok, but I just need some leeway as it's so much harder to eat as healthily away from home. I have a feeling the temptations in Italy & France will be very hard to resist. I have been practising my French, especially asking for gluten-free. It is a surprise how much of my French is coming back to me. I studied it at school for 5 years, but that was from 1964-68!! I find myself saying something, then thinking what that is in French. I am also immersing myself in books set in France. It's so much fun.

I hope I never lose my joy and become a "been there, done that" sort of person! Sometimes I feel child-like & wonder if other people, my age & older do too. I suspect, & hope that they do!

Anyhow, I had better get moving. I'm visiting both mothers today. It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Tassie. It never gets really hot thank goodness, even in the middle of Summer, unlike mainland Australia.

Bye for now, xo Cate-

Hey Cate -

so cool that you have 150ml marker wine glasses down there ( we could sure :rolleyes:use those in Canada ...lol... ) - too bad you don't like beer , but wine is nice too, and sounds like you have a good handle on your GOlf + 8Ball days - enjoy gal ! life is for living...

Your veggie/herb garden sounds lovely - so fun getting out in the sunshine & feeling the dirt in your hands...

I found a picture of the Bottle-brush shrub - it's beautiful.

~ I'll check out MyFitPal site - sounds like it's got lots of good info - a good ref. site

hope you have nice visits with the mother's ....

wishing you a lovely Sunday....and keep up those good choices - Italy/France will be here so soon....

Maryann, I just spent an hour copying & pasting photos of my veggie garden & Mozilla crashed. I'm in shock!!! I'll be back later! xo Cate

AHey Cate, your vacation sounds wonderful! Since I lived in France for 4 years, I am pretty fluent in French (but gotta admit, I wasn't aware of anything gluten free when I was there I. The late 90's, so I would have to bone upon that!
For me the French bread is just to die for..love that stuff more than anything...give me so e real butter and hot French bread and I could eat a whole baguette...or two! Makes my mouth water just to type it! I have to stay away from it when I go...I don't want to risk triggering any gluttony (and there would be gluttony!) by having even one piece!
You're great and a wonderful example of maintaining a very healthy lifestyle! Thank you and keep up the great wor!

hugs

I tried again yesterday & my computer threw a different kind of hissy fit. Sorry Maryann, but I'm giving up on posting any photos for now. I know I need a new one, but i would much rather a new golf bag and a new putter, and a sun visor.....and an umbrella holder....

I feel really fat & bloated today, for some reason. I'm going to have to have a few days of virtually no carbs at all I think.

My GD is here for a couple of hours and I had better pay her some attention. I am very tired today, after my golf yesterday. I didn't play very well again. I am constantly being told how good I am for a beginner but I am very hard on myself I'm afraid! I'll have to go back to just being relaxed & having fun, instead of expecting to get better & better.

I have been feeling a bit up & down lately & am wondering why. Perhaps the low dose meds are too low. I should make an appointment with my doc & ask.

It is my LH's 63rd birthday tomorrow & I am taking him on a "Magical Mystery tour" I'm not sure where we'll go but we will have lunch somewhere & I will buy him a present. We are then going to our OS's house to have a bbq with him, his GF & our 3 GK's.

Hope all are well, xo Cate

It's now 5.53am & I have been up for an hour, but awake for about an hour before that! GAH!

Had a very enjoyable day for my LH's 63rd birthday. We visited both mothers so they could wish him happy birthday & then headed for Launceston, via his sister's, as she rang him along the way. We then went out to lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant & shopped at the golf shop afterward. I had to DRAG him in almost but got him a shirt & a driver cover & a new putter for myself & my LH has bought my xmas present- a new golf bag. The one I have came with my cheap, beginner's clubs & has no divisions in it, so all my clubs rattle & get tangled up. I have to wait until xmas to use it!

Our YS had not replied to a message on FB trying to tee up times to ring him, so I had no idea he was expecting us to ring him in the morning so he could talk to his Dad. We rang him from my mobile after lunch & just missed him by about 3 minutes!

We had a lovely time at our OS's last night.

I hardly did any exercise yesterday, but didn't overeat at least. I'll log my food etc in a sec to see what the damage might have been. I know I'm hungry right now!

Cheers for now, xo Cate.

Hey Cate,

I think the "get up early on your day off" bug has hit here in China too! I will be traveling to the US later today, but I'm up early arghh!! I'l go down to do something in the fitness center, then come back get cleaned up and head off to the airport...snow...hope we get out on time!

Enjoy your weekend dear and get back on that bike!!

Sarah

..no worries on pics - computers can be so frustrating sometimes.... I have a lovely image in my mind of your veggie garden in Taz - ... that's good enuf for mee .

..good idea to check-in with your doc on the meds if U are feeling under-par.... they are the Expert

hope you have a lovely weekend, and yes - carb reduction good plan to drop some xtra water hanging-on....

Maryann C.

Hi Sarah, Hope you get better soon. I did get back on my bike again yesterday. I feel committed again & will shake a few kilos, even over the festive season. It feels good not over-indulging, when all around you are! Take care, xoxo, Cate.

Hi Maryann, Our magical mystery tour was lovely & of course I planned it! LOL. We women have to be devious when it comes to presents. I wouldn't have got him into the shop(I almost had to drag him screaming & kicking as it was) without me saying that I had promised the GK's that I would buy something for them to give him. He suggested something from the butchers. Can you believe that?!! He loathes shopping so was grateful that he now has my xmas present organised! I do have to wait until xmas to use the new bag though. Hmmm.....patience.....

I'll post this quickly & try one more time to put a couple of photos on. maybe one per post. Cheers, xoxo Cate.

Try one more time! Vegie garden(about a third of it)-

Oh WOW! I give up, trying to put a photo in this post. Maryann I have added 3 photos to my album Miscellaneous xo

Hey Cate - good work getting back on the bike ...keep it going...

~ saw your garden pics in your album...(& I think you are right about the "size-bytes" on some pics being lots data ...likely why wont' work on the post-board here).

'bet U can hardly wait for Xmas - to test out the new golf-bag .... so "healthy" to be excited about sport/exercise...

Hope you have a lovely, healthy-choices day Cate,

cheers, Maryann

Hey Cate - just a quick Hi/Bye - am off on a little trip to Disneyworld - so won't be posting for a bit.

Hope your golf-season continues well - keep up your good-choices,....see U back here soon,

cheers, Maryann C.

Thanks Maryann. Have a great holiday! My golf was much better this week- improved on last week's game by 18 shots! Sorry I have been absent. I just seem to have been really busy. I am knackered tonight! My computer is also dying a slow & painful death. If it's not just plain slow, it's either the "blue screen of death" or this weird shaky screen that freezes up. I don't have many spare 'readies' & what I have I am trying to save for our trip to Europe. If it dies 100% then I'll get another. Meanwhile I use my iPhone mostly. All is well with me mostly. xoxo Cate

Well....it's time I shook myself up a bit. I hopped on the scales this morning & they were not good. I know that I am retaining fluid and that I was 2kg lighter a few days ago, so it can't be fat so quickly, but i don't feel right being bloated. To shake this up I think I may have to do something drastic like cutting out all starchy carbs for a few days. This will be hard I know but I want my pants to be loose again.

I'll start tomorrow (Sunday our time.)

One thing at a time I think. Cut out starchy carbs for a few days them maybe cut my calories down below 1440.

I also think I am gaining muscle from golf & from riding my bike but that doesn't explain my bloated stomach.

I'm heading out early today so will get moving, xo Cate.

PS If anyone who reads my diary is on MFP send me a pm if you would be happy to be MFP 'friends'.

AHey Cate, sorry to hear the scale report...I fear I may be in for one of those moments when I weigh in tomorrow after all this airplane food and some indulgences during my travels. Like you said, you are probably gaining muscle and retaining fluids...so don't do anything too drastic! Cutting down on the simple carbs is probably good no matter what...they are way too easy to digest, and cause spikes in glucose levels anyway..so complex carbs are more filling and last longer and don't cause the spikes. You might try a bit more lean protein too...there are some studies that show that lean protein improves mood (for me, it was worth a try, and I think it does help...maybe physchosymatic, but may not!). Anyway, I think you're on the right track!

Good choices dear!

Sarah
