Cate's Diary

Hi Angela & anyone else reading my diary,
I have had a busy day today. I was going to take it easy but got a call at 8.30am to say the "beast" we had ordered was ready to pick up. So I drove to Devonport (120km return trip) & did so. We bought a whole cow basically- 220kg of beef @$4.40 per kg. We are going halves with our OS & they can pay us off. That was good timing selling my car for cash! I called in at my DIL's on the way home but their freezer was chockers so I had to bring it all home & squeeze it in ours. It was hard work. They are buying a good 2nd hand one "very soon" for only $100. I'm counting half of the time spent doing it as exercise as it surely was weight-lifting! I was absolutely exhausted afterwards but also did 2 lots of washing & hung it out, plus my dishes & I'm now going to sit in my chair & read for a while. I will probably go to sleep as my OS woke me at 2.40am with a MMS & we were both then awake for about an hour. Grrrr.

I now also have a big pot of Pho Bo (Vietnamese beef soup) on the stove & 2 steaks out for dinner. There is no room in my freezers at all. I have a chest freezer & 2 fridge/freezers!

Bye for now. I'm tired out....poor old thing!
Cheers, Cate

This afternoon-
ended up being relaxing & pleasant. I read, I had a short catnap, our OS rang & he had a positive visit with my MIL...That is an excellent thing! Long story that but it was really good that it went very well. That makes this mother happy.

We ate a scotch fillet steak each for dinner & it was delicious! Buying a whole beast is the way to go price-wise and the butcher we bought off grows & butchers his own.

It's great that we have so much activity in the forum & I am really enjoying seeing all the support that is being shared around. Nice! Cheers for now, Cate.

Ahhhh. My LH has the weekend off!
First one for ages! It's nice just to be sitting here in our dressing-gowns reading & relaxing & having a chat. Nice.

I'm driving him to golf today & visiting my MIL & maybe taking her to the market. I'm not sure what I'll do until golf finishes. It's a cool, windy day so far but looks to be getting better so may go for a big walk. I'll play it by ear I think. I may end up doing some tidying up at my MIL's. Who knows. I feel quite relaxed & good. It's time to get on the move though as we have a little shopping to do before golf/MIL.

Have a lovely w/e everyone, xo Cate

Thats great you're LH has the weekend off to spend with you, Cate. Those weekends are very much needed every now and then to just relax together and spend some quality time. We are also having one of those weekends. Chris is taking me out to dinner tonight which I'm really looking forward to :)

Glad you're feeling good! :) hope the rest of your weekend is lovely.

Love
Kristy xo

By now Kristy you will be out enjoying dinner with your special man. I hope you have a lovely night!
I think your day might have been a little more fun somehow. Mine was mostly ok but I wouldn't want to repeat it again in a hurry!. xoxo Cate

My day-
I spent the entire day with my MIL!!
From 9.45 this morning until 7pm tonight. I think I may go to heaven! Well....at least I should have heaps of Brownie points!
I'm exhausted!
I went to the supermarket quickly before going to my MIL's,
(bought her a new battery for her smoke alarm & some juice for the golf club,)
drove to my MIL's, picked her up after changing the battery,
dropped my LH off at golf,
went to the market (now with my MIL)
then to an aged care home where we visited all the residents,
then up the street to a new store,
then to visit an even older friend(94) of hers who is lovely
then to lunch
then back to her place for a while, did some sewing repairs,
then for a walk around the river,
then out to the golf club & found out my LH had a committee meeting which he had forgotten about,
back to town, via the supermarket again to get her a few things,
back to her place
where I read the paper while she had a Greatgrandma nap,
then she wanted me to go through a mountain of photos,
& read out all of her wedding telegrams.....
and my LH didn't turn up until 7pm. A 3 hour meeting!!Aaarrggghhhhhh!!!!! So now I'm sitting in my chair, my LH is sound asleep & I really do feel totally worn out. I'm ok but phew!
I'll say goodnight I think.
Tomorrow is another full day with Taekwondo grading, junior 8-ball & another 120km return drive.GS then staying the night....zzzzzzzzz.
I thought life was meant to be slowing down!
xoxo Cate

A new day-
*A good night's sleep,
*A sleep-in with my LH ;)
& I'm feeling refreshed & ready for a new day & a new week.
Sleep puts most things right for me.
Time to move though.
Sending my love to everyone out there, xo Cate

Yay! So glad for you Cate. Hope you're having an awesome Sunday!!! :)

Cate, just wondering, as a cohens graduate. What do you think of those little tubs of Bulla Fruit n Yoghurt as an after dinner dessert occassionally? Also the Nestle Diet Dark Chocolate Mousse's?

Bye for now
K

Kristy- I'll check them out next time I'm in the supermarket. I go on Carb content & compare them to natural yoghurt as a guideline. I eat Vaalia Lemon Creme with my fruit usually but know I should have stuck to natural while I was used to the taste!

Today-
is hot! 28o or so they said but it feels so much hotter than that. The sun really stings in Tassie. You get burnt very easily as it's intense & very high UV. I have to wash my car today but will wait until later. I'm taking my MIL in to Launceston (120km return trip) for further tests tomorrow. There are no mud flaps on the car at all & it's filthy already because we had rain the other day. Everything is extra these days apparently. Amazing really! I need a dash mat, headlight protectors, a steering wheel cover, back seat covers & they still haven't sent my floor mats which we talked them into providing. I bought a boot tray & cheap floor mats & nice sheepskin front seat covers.

I don't think I'll get any free time tomorrow to check these things out. Imight make a quick call now to see if they're available in Launc anyway.

I'll pop back later as my LH is playing golf after work & won't be home until late. Cheers, Cate

Thanks Cate. Im wondering even with it being a frozen yoghurt whether it would be classed as a dessert kinda thing or whether it could be eaten as a protein snack? thats probably wishful thinking hahaha. I will buy some little tubs of natural yoghurt this week which would be a good option for an after dinner snack? i dont need a desserty kinda thing, i just normally always feel like SOMETHING after dinner... so maybe a small tub of yoghurt is the best way to go?

Hope you have a good day tomorrow, talk soon!
K xo

hey Kris, I have the same question re: yoghurt as dessert or protein snack. :) haha preparing for maintenance! But then again, I can't get yoghurt here so never mind..

I really like the yoghurt so perhaps mixed with just a little handful of mixed berries, would be a yummy dessert! could probably not have that much though, maybe 80-100grams depending on how much protein you have had in your meals during the day. Hmm, let us know your advice Cate? :)

Hey gals, You know I treat is an any time snack or as a dessert or breakfast with or without fruit. Protein is my friend & I love my yoghurt. Just watch the carb content but remember that you are having it with protein to limit the insulin spike so it's good. Kristy-ask your consultant seeing you are only just on maintenance & she should tell you. I would be interested to hear what she says. Too hot to keep typing folks. We just had Pho Bo & I've been chillied! I'll be back in the morning. Time for my yoghurt & fruit. LOL! xoxo Cate

OK- I say it over & over but this time I'm doing it. We have a bbq to go to on Sunday & Monday I am back on Cohen's 100%. I tried on some Corfu jeans yesterday in the heat & I am up a whole size. Not good. I refuse to go up a size & said I would be back in a month!

Yesterday-
Took my MIL in for lots of tests. She found it fairly gruelling. I had to make her drink water all day & I think she had about 15 "pit stops!" 86 years of age & never had any sort of a scan before! My LH is going along the same way, touch wood. 60 yrs old & never had a serious illness or scare. It was a really hot day. I bought a new fridge- a Fischer & Paykel 2 door (freezer at the bottom.) I got $450 off but ouch! It should be good though.

Tai Chi today

I am now dying to do Cohen's now that I have made up my mind.
Better go- dishes to do! My LH just offered to wash!
Cheers, Cate

Woohoo Cate for getting back on it!! Are you planning to do a month and then do refeed again? I don't think I could ever do refeed again haha. So perhaps if I ever needed to loose a few kgs or get a bit lower, I'de just do 10 days and then have a little break. Whats the plan Cate? How many kgs do you want to drop?

Take care :)
K xo

Kristy-
Plan? Mmm. I want to lose at least 5kgs but am telling my LH 3. I'll let you know as I go what my plan is as it may change, depending on how quickly I lose, but I doubt it will include refeed, as I do know what I need to eat to maintain, after 2.5 years of mostly maintenance. I think the 10 days strictly Cohen's, then maybe a few days off then 100% again if necessary, etc will be the way to go until I get to what I want to be. I think trying to get back to my lowest weight may be too difficult unless I give up exercise. I'll play it by ear. Hopefully I can still do some as I have been doing so daily for 7 months now. I'm going to put my minimum 60mins daily on hold until afterwards. I really want to be strict & weigh my food. I think it would be good for me mentally as well to know that I can & also so that I can relate better to those that are starting out on Cohen's. "Walking in their shoes".

Yesterday-
was so hot & I struggled a bit with my breathing at Tai Chi. There was a smoky haze from the bush fires up Cradle Mountain way. I didn't go to lunch with them but came home to my LH instead & had a lazy afternoon reading. We went out to 8-ball last night which was quite pleasant. I had an ok sleep but woke up to "pea soup" fog & asthma. Another quiet day I think. I may do my weights after lunch when hopefully the fog will lift. The air has been really humid which is very unusual for Tasmania.

Today-
Lazy, hazy day. I think it's raining lightly. My dogs will be complaining very soon, wanting to come in. They are such soooks. I'm going to finish a book I started yesterday & return my books this afternoon when I take my GS to Taekwondo. I hope he got his yellow belt! Tassie schools only went back this week as we still have 3 terms. It will be good to hear about it. It's lovely to be able to spend time with him. Sometimes I don't feel like having him for the night as I'm tired or whatever but I really do enjoy it & he's such a sweet, affectionate boy. 10 & a half & still sits on my knee on the recliner for a back scratch (arm scratch, leg scratch, shoulder massage......!) I let him play games on this laptop for an hour or 2 as they don't have the internet at home. It will only be an hour tonight with school tomorrow.

I'll pop back this afternoon probably before picking him up off the bus. Cheers for now, Cate

Sounds like a good plan Cate. Does your LH think you were too thin -5kgs ?? I think you'll loose pretty quickly once you get back on it 100%, and you'll feel awesome!!! 10days at a time sounds good. We'll all be here for support for you just as you have for us :D

Hope you're breathing is a bit better today. I hate the humidity, I'de rather the dry heat any day!!

Your GS sounds like a sweetie, glad you enjoy your time with him :) hpe you had a nice arvo.

Talk to you soon
K xo

Hey Cate,

Just popping in to say hi :) had a read through your diary and as always you always seem busy busy busy.

Hope the air has cleared up a bit for you there and you are getting a good nights sleep.

Take care
xxx

Hi Kristy, Angela & anyone else reading my diary. Kristy- my husband thinks that I could only lose 3kgs with my exercise but yes, he did think that I was too thin at 5kg less than I am now. I know that I wasn't so that is the aim but I will keep it quietfrom him.
The air cleared a little but it was foggy overnight & is rainy today. The smoke I'm not sure about & I'm staying inside today. My asthma never feels scary really as I use medication morning & night which keeps it under control. It doesn't stop me doing anything.

Exercise yesterday- I did my bike & weights in the afternoon. Our GS got his yellow belt at Taekwondo! He was so chuffed & so was I.

Today- My new fridge will be delivered some time so I have a good excuse for staying home. I'm not sure what I'll do exercise-wise seeing it's rainy- maybe some Tai Chi & bike. Feeling tired today, perhaps from the humid air.

Be back later today.
Cheers for now, Cate.

Today-
Mmmm. Lazy day really but very pleasant. I read( just the paper) .... rearranged fridges/freezers (not too much) ......went for a walk (not a big walk!).....had a visit from our OS & GD (had a lovely chat- nice!)......had a few phone chats ( SIL + ?) .......drank some wine with my son & then my LH (more than usual but not too much)......had dinner (healthy salad).....
ate some chocolate(only 4 squares).....and feel relaxed & quite chilled out for the first time for a while really. It feels good that I'm going back on Cohen's Monday. I even forgot to weigh myself this morning & I guess this is because it doesn't even matter what I weigh. I'm doing it regardless! Feels good.
My LH has the w/e off + Mon, Tues- Excellent!

I'll say goodnight for now as no-one's about anyway, xo Cate
