Cate's Diary

That´s so exciting, I´m sure you´ll love the trip! I should get into the habit of at least doing city trips once or twice a year. There are so many places I want to see but I just don´t get round to it on my own - even though I really like visiting places on my own!

I'm excited & nervous!
A good day today-
I carted wood for an hour, did 5 kms on my bike & 20 squats.
Lunch was a salad, comprising lettuce(hg-home-grown), fresh herbs, tomato, avocado, celery, snow peas, carrot, beans, a little ham & a little salami, some shaved Parmesan & topped with some pepitas & hg pomegranate seeds, pineapple sage flowers & walnuts. The dressing was balsamic vinaigrette. Followed by some yoghurt & rhubarb.
Dinner was a small portion of lambs fry(hg) & bacon with lots of veggies, followed by a fruit platter( 3 fruit, halved-kiwi, orange & an apple.)
I now have a longer term plan to get to my GW by May 2019. 10 kg in 10 months!

We planted the tree at least 20 years ago & this is our first real harvest :D. They really are not meant to grow here.

Thanks, Petal. I pretty well follow the DASH diet, but I think my BP issues are probably genetic. There's a family history there with high BP & heart problems.
Reynaud's can be very painful. How old is your daughter, Petal?
Cate
I have BP too but seem to manage it . My gp wants me to lose weight and exercise more .
My daughter is 17 . She suffers in the winter with it

Your holiday sounds amazing . Italy will be fab at that time of year .
I personally would love Canada too I think . My friend was just in Vancouver and sent me some fab pics .
You can always go another time if you feel like it .

Btw your food sounds totally amazing . At that rate you will shed those lbs

This golf group are always sociable. It gets better & better as we get used to them & they get used to us. We played in the rain & it was freezing! We are out there playing golf & not on the couch. Win/win! But brrrr!

Thanks, hon.
I slept very well last night & I feel like I am getting fitter. The squats & daily exercise (carting wood & riding my bike) are helping me generally I can feel & are certainly making it easier to get around the golf course. Yesterday was a tough day, weather-wise & the course was rough, but I got around it well, considering. The standard of my golf is very ordinary, but I don't care much. I did get a nearest the pin, which was good & won 3 golf balls. I'm going to take my own lunch from now on though as the bbq afterwards is not for me. I'll try to make it not too obvious.
We're having a home day today & will take it easy. What with the World Cup & Le Tour De France we haven't been having as much sleep as usual. I can never stay awake for it all.

Carting wood sounds like a pretty good workout!! Can't believe you went golfing in the rain, the last couple of days have been so cold here and temps are a lot lower where you are (maybe I'm just a sook now haha!!)

Your salad sounds amazing! And your long term goal sounds pretty dead on too, I think I worked out I can probably lose roughly 300g a week for a month or two then it'll taper down until I'm losing roughly a kg a month... hoping to be at goal by the time it drops further though, don't really want to lower my 1500cal average as this seems to be my sweet spot.

Is the barbecue catered by the club or does everyone bring their own stuff? If it´s the latter it´s easy to bring something that looks like a side salad - possibly with :beating: beans :beating: and seeds for protein.

I'm a sook Lucy, but it didn't bucket down. I love playing golf & even when it's cold & rainy I just try to picture those calories being burned!
Re: my salad- I actually love making salads & the more home-grown stuff in it the more I enjoy it. It's funny, but I dislike cooking.
I hope my kg a month is doable. I don't want to travel with excess weight.
LaMa- it is the most basic BBQ you could imagine. Cheap bread, sausages, burgers & sauce. Our day only costs us $15 each, including the 18-holes of golf, so is really cheap. I'll just take some healthy snacks from now on that I can eat while I play, rather than something else to eat in front of the others.
I decided that G & I would cater for the day in Oct. that is being played at our local club. We won't have to do the bar, but it would be nice to provide lunch. I love belonging to this golfing group.
Having a lazy day today. I have done 20 squats & little else. It is cold & very wet. A typical Winter's day!
I have been doing some Venice hotels research :)
Back to my book!

Cate as always you are super duper busy . It all Sounds great and your getting lots of exercise in .
Well done on the squats.

Hi, LaMa & Petal.
My exercise may be doing me good, but I am not losing any weight. I was X plus 1 kg this morning! :( Consequently, I am doing a 500 cal fast today.
It's wild & woolly today again. Rainy & windy.
I'll have to do some shopping today on an empty stomach, but I woke up not hungry so thought I would have a crack at 5:2. Michael Mosely's exercise programme is on ABC TV tonight, not SBS, as I said LaMa. It will be interesting I think- his shows usually are.
Have done 20 squats this morning, so that's a start.

I decided to bring my shopping home & am about to head back again. G is playing golf & the rain is holding off. I managed to get to 12 without eating anything & have had a small piece of chicken. I'm drinking green tea to help fill me up. It's time to head I think already. I'll be back this evening.

I´m starting to think your quick weight loss years ago is still impacting the amount of energy your body is willing to use and how much it stores instead. We have pretty good evidence by now to say that if you lose a lot of weight quickly to reach normal weight your calorie requirements will never go up to the same level as people who were always slim. (I don´t think we have the data to say whether or not the same happens when you lose slowly.) Either way: it makes it very hard to take in all the nutrients your body needs without eating too many calories, especially when you get older and need fewer calories anyway.

I'm sure it is LaMa. I only have to look at food & I put on weight & it gets harder & harder to lose it. Slow weight-loss is definitely the go, but I can't go back & change my history. Losing 36 kg in 28 weeks, back in 2007, was too fast & did long-term damage to my metabolism.
This article is interesting (& almost makes me cry with frustration!) https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/02/health/biggest-loser-weight-loss.html?_r=2
I'm back home again & it is bucketing down with rain now & very cold. I'm not going with G to his 8-ball tonight!
