Cate's Diary

Hi LaMa& tete xoxo
I'm having another fast day today(500cals) & G is playing golf at another course. I may go out & have a hit at our course seeing there's no comp on. I need to practise my chipping & putting in particular. I have to go out there anyway as I think I left a banana peel in my bag & the thought of a rat trying to eat it's way through my bag to get to it is not good!
I'll see how I go doing today's fast. I'm thinking of trying something different in June. I may weigh every day & only do one "fast"a week, or I may do something else, but I would like to keep going with the squats as I love doing them & add some more exercises. I can literally see the benefit of doing squats. Can anyone suggest an exercise to balance them out a bit, please? My legs ache a fair bit- calf muscles & fronts of thighs in particular.
I'll head into town soon & visit Mum & do some shopping. Shopping is interesting when you're fasting. Hard but interesting.
I don't think I mentioned it before, but I called in to see Mum on my birthday before going to golf. I told her I was calling in quickly on my way to golf as it was my birthday & she turned toward me & gave me the most expressive look I have seen for about 3 years. Her face lit up! It made my day. Most days I don't see any recognition. It was lovely.
Better go have a look at FB before I head xoxo Cate

Just saw this on FB :D

HAHAHAHA...I hate going to the market when hungry too...I find a million things that I would normally not buy to eat so incredibly attractive then, for me those are the instances I end up buying processed food and some ice cream for dessert (I normally only buy meals for me to cook instead), Lol

Such a lovely "gift" you got from your mamma on your Bday...these precious moments are the ones to be cherished darling, glad they still come around once in a while.

Re. squats - I know, they truly are a great work-out - someone once said "if you only had 5 min. to work out a day, I would say do squats" - I don't know, maybe find some upper body exercises and intercalate between squats' day?!? I don't know if you have any exercise restrictions, or if you have an specific goal (i.e. toning a particular body part; gaining resistance; gaining overall strength; etc.) - sometimes all it takes is trying a few exercises...you may dim them hard on a 1st look but won't know unless trying...I was always frightened when I would hear the word "squats or lunges"...it turns out that squats were not bad at all, while lunges are not really my thing...try a few things out and choose what suits best...and intercalate training days so you are not putting so much strain on your legs (I mean, you already do golf, so remember that that's working somewhat on the same body parts, which may be reason for the "fatigue" on this area).

Hope this helps. Take care beautiful!

Xoxx

Thanks CaliGirl. I just don't want to stop doing the squats but maybe my legs do need a rest. I'll do some more homework & maybe have a day off them.
I don't feel up to typing in diaries today. I think most of us have similar struggles & some days you can help & some you can't. It requires a certain amount of oomph & I don't have much in me today. G thought we may go for a drive. (He left a couple of things behind at the other golf course yesterday)
I really struggled with my fast day yesterday & maybe went over my 500 cals by 50-100. I was so hungry!
This morning I weighed & I have gained 1kg since the start of the month, instead of losing my hoped-for 1kg. Now I can talk to myself & say it must be fluid, but maybe I am eating over my TDEE on the 5 other days each week. I don't know really as I have not been keeping track. I looked in the mirror this morning side & front on & thought how much slimmer I look. I am actually quite happy with how I look. I know that if I stop "dieting" I would quickly put 7kg back on again, so I won't give up, but I think it's time for a change.
I think I will have this week off fasting. I will weigh myself every day & if I gain one more kilo I will have a fast day that day. I won't weigh myself Wednesday as fasts & golf would not go well together.
It doesn't matter how long you have been doing this there will always be struggles. It's not easy, but we mustn't give up.
I went out & had a good practice at the golf course yesterday(there were only 2 others out there on the whole course!) & feel I may have ironed out some of my recent faults, especially with putting. I'll go to get fitted out for new golf clubs soon I think & I may have a couple of lessons. I have never had any one on one coaching at all & only started 3 & 1/2 years ago. I would like to get better at it.
We are having a very old visitor soon.(96?) He blasted the rocks so that we could get level "ground" to build our house & is the FIL of one of the older golfers who visited us recently. Apparently he was excited to hear we had built our house out of rock off our land. I'll share a photo of a part of our house, seeing as photos have disappeared from the forum.

If you wonder how on earth I manage to keep a house this big clean. You have to lower your standards! I love living here though, but wonder how long we can stay here as it's on 50 acres. I have been having some anxiety lately about how long we can live here, as it will be heart wrenching to leave it. We built this house & so much of us & our personalities are in it.
Better scoot xoxo

What a lovely house! It looks so... soothing? I don´t know that´s not really a thing for houses, but it does please my brain. I guess there´s a sense of harmony to it.

About the squats: I think alternating with an upper body exercise like (elevated?) push-ups would be great but maybe 5 minutes of warming up before you do them could help as well.
Don´t worry about not always writing in all diaries: you can´t be expected to take care of the entire forum on your own!

Thanks, LaMa. It is a soothing house. It's solid & in a peaceful place. Of the 3 high windows- the one on the left is our kitchen, the one in the middle is our living-room(both open plan) & the one on the right is our bedroom. The big room on the far left, next to our garage(where we enter the house usually) is our games room(with a full sized snooker table, bar etc) & the section on the far right is the bedroom section.

We went for a drive to pick up the stuff G left behind yesterday &, after a long drive we ended up having a delicious lunch at a conservatory which we have been meaning to try out sometime. I had lamb curry, which was nice, but not as nice as we have at home, but G had pork belly on celeriac mash with pickled red cabbage & some sort of redcurrant chutney & some other sauce & he thought it was sensational. He couldn't fault it. The wine was too expensive, so we decided to wait until we got home to have a bottle. The staff were excellent, the atmosphere was great- very buzzy. I must go do a review.
It did us good to go out for lunch.
I ran an idea past G today & was surprised when he agreed with me. I asked him if he would consider building another house & said buying a block in our local town might be a good idea. He just agreed straight up & then we had a conversation about it as we were driving around the countryside. I'm glad that happened. He suggested we start looking around for a suitable block. He also said that if we changed our minds we could always sell it. I like the idea of building a smaller version of what we like about our house. I can't imagine moving into something that didn't have the light & character of ours. Food for thought.....I'm quite excited about it actually!

:) I´m sure I mentioned my parents new house before. They had a choice of either renovating the old house (which they´d built pretty much with their bare hands when they were engaged and penniless, so the materials they used weren´t exactly grade A) or tearing it all down to build something they loved and which would be manageable even if they should one day become infirm (knock on wood). Building projects always seem to cost about three times as much time/effort as people originally plan but it turned out so great and I can see it´s a load off my mom´s shoulders especially.

What a stunning place you live in, Cate. And I can almost feel all the loveliness, and as you say 'light and character' that fill your house.

Exciting prospects on the cards too! Keep us posted :)

That was very smart of your parents LaMa, which is not surprising. We started building this house when we were so much younger & it was meant to be lived in with teenagers. I loved planning the house & instead of feeling faintly negative about leaving this house one day I will start planning the next one. It is fun.
Thanks, Delsid & Jen. It is a lovely home in a very peaceful place. It's the 50 acres that's a bit daunting these days. We could probably subdivide & sell some land off, but that would take away from the utter peacefulness & privacy of it & detract from its' value. It's all just food for thought. It won't hurt to start looking for a block of land, though. It was good to find out that G thought it was a good idea. We have been together for so long but there are still so many things we don't agree on. It's probably a good thing.
I have to go as he wants me to help him do something on the computer xoxo

Thanks, LJ. We do love it. I don't know why I get these bouts of logic every now & then! We are so happy here & manage quite well, so I will stop worrying about things that may never happen.
I looked at blocks of land for sale in town & there are quite a few. Houses aren't that much more, so I don't think it is such a good idea. It didn't hurt to look, though.
I changed my mind & am doing a fast today. Tuesdays are a good day to fast as G plays golf & I am in town all day & then he goes to 8-ball at night, so it's very convenient. I will just have the one meal early this evening with him & then I won't snack while he's at 8-ball. :D A win/win. I may only do one fast this week though. It would have felt strange not fasting today.
I have had 3 days off doing squats & my legs have recovered. Quite possibly I over-did it :blush5: I have a tendency to do that. I will start doing them again on Thursday, but will only do 20 a day. I'm playing golf tomorrow, so won't start then.
R, our younger son has started a new job cooking in a hotel just down the road from where he lives. His 1st night was last Sat & they did 200 meals (5 of them in the kitchen). He was offered a f/t job at the end of the shift & will be working 8 hr shifts this Wed, Thu, Fri & Sat. I hope it works out for him. He sounded happy. We'll see him soon as we are going down to Hobart for 8-ball. We can't stay with him anymore as he has a full house now, but I booked into a hostel(double room with ensuite, though) for the 1st time in my life. It might be fun. I'll take some breakfast stuff with me. I decided not to waste money on expensive accommodation. We can have a nice meal out instead.
Nearly time to go. It's cool, but sunny :D

I don't know why I get these bouts of logic every now & then
I'm an engineer with an interest in some of the arts (not just classic rock lyrics, either), so I'm constantly battling in my mind between logic and aesthetic!

Good news on your son!

Wonderful house! Wow!

I am so impressed you can go fasts down to 500 calories. Even if you cheat by a few, that is truly incredible. I could never eat that little. Even fasting down to 1500 would be crazy for me. I have the utmost respect for you even trying. Even if you didn't quite make it all the way, it is quite a feat!

Good luck on your weight loss journey

Thanks, guys. Things are going pretty well at the moment.....touch wood.
Living in the moment is hard for someone who has a vivid imagination. You can try to come up with 10-year plans, but the truth is we have no idea what's down the track. I think planning the next holiday is a better option. We still haven't decided on a destination!
I survived yesterday's fast, but once again, think I may have gone over about 50-100 cals. There is no point me doing them if I am going to do that.
Baboon- is there something else I can call you? It feels rude calling you that :blush5: I have never been big on nicknames. It seems to be a blokey thing. Thanks for your positive words. The house is fairly wow. I'll post some more inside photos. It is such an earthy place, No tizz. I do struggle with my fast days, but have been doing them since last August & like how my body feels now. I love getting my waist back :D

I'm about to head to golf. I don't care if I win nothing, but I would like to play better.
