Cate's Diary

A new must read book-
Honey Brown "Dark Horse" Fantastic author!!!! It isn't being released until Wednesday & I REALLY would have loved to have a copy to read on the plane!!!!! Her 1st 3 have been so exciting that I have held my breath & even reading an excerpt of this one had me doing the same. DANG! I want a copy now! :smash:

Have a great trip dear! Take a jacket...given our crazy weather this year you may need it...even in Rome! Take some good sneakers...and walk those glasses of wine off during your vacay!! You so deserve a great time!!

Sarah

Rome trip is almost here. Wish I could help you with some go to Latin, but my skills are very rusty. "Semper ubi sub ubi" is all I got for you. :)

Glad to see the money has finally hit the bank. Hope you really enjoy your trip. I too am taking a trip soon: to the grocery store in 15 minutes...

Thanks Sarah, I have a jacket & warm gear packed as we also are going to the Swiss alps (5 nights in Switz.) I SO need this holiday & really felt organised & in control for the first time today. There was just too much to do with both our mothers! If I have forgotten something it is just too bad. I have tried to cover EVERY possibility. I don't think I will ever be a person who 'wings it.' I would be kidding myself if I ever thought I could. I can't stop caring either & don't wish otherwise. If the rest of my husband's family decide to pick up some of the load, with their mother, I won't be disappointed. It is going to be a real juggling act with both our mothers being in the same aged care facility. It is such a radical shift & t will take a lot of time to work out. Hopefully a lot of it will settle before we get back. My MIL thinks she doesn't belong in an "old people's home", even though she is 89, almost blind & quite incontinent & has no short-term memory.
My mother, on the other hand, decided while she could think at all rationally that she should be ina home & is off in another place mentally, but is happy ( & incontinent & hardly talks, except to say "yes."
I'll cope I know.

"Semper ubi sub ubi?"- Urban dictionary (love it!) translates that as "always wear underwear." Good advice Mr Vee! I even have thermals packed! ;) Cheeky bugger! I will take your advice & go pack some undies! I can hardly believe that I am about to hop on a plane & get away from mothers, responsibility......& see the Colosseum, drink Italian wine in Italy, listen to people speaking Italian, (what a beautiful sounding language!) drink Champagne in the Champagne district, hear French spoken fluently etc.....
It feels like a dream really!

I spent a small fortune today on treats for our son & our GK's & lots of healthy food, as they are house-sitting for us. I would love life to be easier for our sons but I can only do what I can & I can't change the world. We have such lovely sons!
Our YS moved to the East coast of Canada for a girl, only to find out second day there that she had a BF. I got a message on FB this morning telling me about it. He thinks he'll come home after Summer. I didn't think it was going to work out. He'll find the right someone one day. He deserves to find love. We all do. I want the ones I love to be as happy & as loved as I know I am.
Still not packed, but have it narrowed down pretty well. Will discard some more things tomorrow. Have the GK's in the morning, doing the bar for a while at the golf club & then having our OS & his GF for a quick dinner & will pack somewhere in there!
Cheers all xo Cate

Enjoy your trip Cate. Hope you see this before the trip is over!

Take loads of pix plzzzz!! Have a BLAST!

Hi folks! About to go to bed but thought I'd pop in quickly. Having a great time! I just loved Italy & enjoyed trying to speak the language. There is too much to tell! Italy, I will return! Walking heaps, eating as we'll as I can but also really enjoying all the experiences. Love to all xoxo

Hey Cate,
So glad you are enjoying your vacation! I also love Italy!! I survived the GW marathon...check out my blog and you can get the story!
Enjoy the rest of your vacation...and good luck trying to get over jetlag!
Sarah

Hi Mr Vee, Mands & Sarah & thanks for popping in to my diary. I'm home now & had an absolute ball!!! I am seriously jetlagged though- it is such a long journey back to Aus. We left Paris at 9.50pm Wed & arrived back home in Tassie on Friday at 3pm! Over 30 hours in a plane!! It is the price we pay for living here. I will come back & tell you more about our trip when I'm not so tired. A big surprise was losing a kilo on the trip! I enjoyed my food & wine & ended up having a Creme Brulee theme in France & still managed to lose a kilo! :D It could have something to do with walking about 10km most days ;) ROME, Lucca, the Cinque Terra, Burgundy & Paris were the highlights. Cycling in Burgundy was one of the best days of my life. My 60th birthday in Paris was my best birthday EVER! It's time for some more shuteye so will say goodnight for now. Lots of love xoxo Cate

I will share something I posted elsewhere yesterday-
" Just back from our marvellous trip for my 60th. EEK- I'm now officially a senior- ha ha! I'm happy with that! Guess what- I lost 1kg on our trip- LOTS of walking, very little bread at all- no croissants, baguettes, macarons etc (it sure helps being gluten-free!) but I did have sweets whenever I felt like them (Creme Brulee- YUM!!!) I did not obsess about anything & am not going to again.
From now on I weigh myself once a week & adjust accordingly. I am not counting calories any more. I feel really good about myself, which I think is the key to not eating badly. I weigh 81.5kg &, while the charts say I should be less, I am happy with how I look & feel. I have always weighed much more than I look, even as a fit & slim teenager.
My holiday has liberated me from obsession, which feels lovely.
Love to everyone, xoxo Cate

is much more important than what others think of you.”

Sounds like you had a great time on your vacation and also dropped some weight while you were at it. Congrats!

I'm very much convinced that so much of my success comes down to substantial increase in my activity levels. Not just directly in terms of burning calories, but also in terms of my moods, in terms of staving off boredom, in terms simply as a reminder to keep an eye on my health in other areas if I'm going to benefit from being active. My guess is that you were so busy getting out and doing things, that the idea of just sitting around and eating sounded silly. There's no reason that attitude has to stop once you're back from vacation.

Anyhow, welcome back!

You are absolutely right! I have come home with a new vigour for life & a determination that my life will be more balanced. It is absolutely liberating. Life is wonderful & I am going to enjoy it more & worry less. Thank you so much for your warm welcome. I appreciate it. Cheers & happy Memorial Day!

Hey Cate! Saw your post yesterday but didn't get a chance to reply on FB so will respond here! Yay for avoiding the delicious noms! Your new attitude sounds fab! I'm glad the holiday has shifted things for you <3 xxx

Hi Han, I'll have to maintain my attitude as well as my weight now I'm back. My new challenge. I am also a scarf wearer now! Now, if only everyone could feel positive about themselves when they're young & maintain that right through their lives- that would be great!! You can't undo the past, but you sure can change your future. Love yourself sweetie. It's SOOO important. Thanks for visiting my diary xoxo Cate
