cabers, sheafs, weights...oh my

Sat-8/4

...We showed up and started dragging the implements out of the cage. Apparently some unwatching parent had let their kid get ahold of our measuring tape and string it all over the place and it was snapped apart in a few places. So no measurements taken.

**** I am doing 115 bb snatches with 2 hands! I just started though and it is still a bit weird. Im also working on OH squats to help with the snatches. Right now I dont go into the full squat because I almost topple.

Evo you seen any of Even-Esh's products?

There are some things I picked up from my new coach (yes, I've decided to keep him coaching me on a regular basis) that helped me quite a bit. On your snatch, the bar should be about 6 inches from the top of your head...if it's not, your grip is too narrow. Also, if the bar is not resting just above the pelvic bone, your grip is too narrow. Start with your wrists cocked inward from the hang. Train from the hang and work down. Those two things automatically make me want to drop into an OH squat position.

If you can OH squat but going into an OH squat from a snatch causes you to topple, you might just not be used to the speed of the bar. Remember, there's a huge difference between doing OH squats and doing full snatches. You're going to be catching the bar on the way down on the full snatch as opposted to just doing OH squats from the standing position. This isn't to say don't OH squat, just realize there is a difference. I think the OH squat is a wonderful movement and does awesome for increasing stability and strength in the shoulders.

I will say there are few movements that feel as cool as doing a snatch and hitting the bottom position of an OH squat. Good luck...Olympic lifts are teh awesome in my book.

Yeah...well, I've seen his videos and instructional stuff. I've never heard anything bad about the guy or his products. I like most of the guys over at Elitefts.com. You thinking about buying something of his?

Ya I am. I have an interview with him and it lured me over to his websites. I was thinking, "this **** is cool." I emailed him actually to tell him about the interview and which product could be most beneficial to my situation.

I think it would be cool if I can get some ladies doing some of that stuff in a bootcamp setting. Plus sand is free and tires are cheap. Im not sure if I wanna get the Underground Strength Manual or Real Mans Fitness.

Awesome. How and why did you set up an interview with him? I'm currently working on typing up why Elitefts should sponser me as a Highland athlete.

I agree. I'm working on having my soccer players working with sandbags and tires. I'm blessed to have an administration that is okay with me bring tractor tires and leaving them lying around teh school. I don't think you could go wrong with either product.

I didnt interview, I have an audio file of an interview he did. Not so much about his training techniques as much as his "mind" techniques.

The interview is about 3 yrs old so hopefully his head hasnt gotten huge since then. I wonder if my condo neighbors would be ok with some tires sitting outside my place...

Hopefully he'll be cool and remember his roots and humanity. It just might take him a bit longer to reply due to popularity. That's what I like about Dan John, he still replies to emails and will call you on the phone if you ask him too.

Hmmm..don't know about a condo. Can you put them in your back yard? I know they're small. My grandmother used to have a couple of condos and all the backyards were small. If nothing else, ask.

Well its a three townhouse unit. Main thing is I dont want to destroy the grass.

Ya I got a short reply from him today. I asked him about Randy Gage's products and he said that he still recommends them all the way. He linked me to Juan Carlos Santana for some ideas. He said his stuff isnt really for middle aged ladies lol.

Thanks. I'm pondering at the moment if I should start competing in weightlifting competitions. I can compete reasonably until I'm 40. The idea sounds really cool...I'm just not sure if picking up another fulltime hobby is a wise idea.

Where is a good place to get tires?

Anywhere that sells tractor tires will be good. Look them up and call them and see if they have any that they need to haul off and ahve melted down. They will typically give them to you for free so that they don't have to pay to have them discarded.

I'll look at my brand that I have tomorrow when there's light outside.

how about a couple snaps of you out there slinging them tires around, and such?

doesn't that get dirt in yer fingernails!!!! hahahahha play hard, get dirty and stop sniveling beeeeyatch!!! This place is great. Thanks for helping me get out of the gate.

now let's see some pictures of these radical workouts I have to sit here and read every day. Let's see soem pictures of you doing a snatch! ahhahaghaahaajjf'aj;fa;sg/gamjH:A2y
