BugDude is back, and has a plan

Great to see you back here and back on the bike! I did a bike yesterday at the gym as our power was out so only the non electric spin bikes were usable. Bruised my butt!
We've had some flooding here too, though all from just a couple hours of bad storms! We had some yesterday and some again today.
Having visitors can definitely throw off ones eating, but some of that is probably water weight too. I was up 8 pounds yesterday from what I was a couple weeks ago after I went camping this last week and ate poorly for a week before that, but this morning I'm already down over 2 pounds.

8/6 Rest Day

8/7....10.15 miles....45 min....13.6 mph....1168 cal

Woke up this morning with my back hurting terribly. Got up, got ready, and it was all I could do to get my leg over the seat of the bike. But I got on and pushed through it. Perhaps it's time for a new mattress. I've got a temperpedic, but I've had it a while. Oh well, a pretty good ride this morning. I'll get back up to speed with a little time.

I don't know how you ride at all with a painful back Bug. You must be made of stern stuff!

Hey Bug dude, this is Mark....brand new here. Just trying to meet a few people. Good luck on your weight loss efforts and feel free to visit should you wish to.

Ok, I'm back from my long break. Back was messed up for a bit longer then got into working on my cars every spare minute. Heat and humidity calmed down some and time changed, so got back out for a 10 miler yestrday. It kicked my butt!!! My pace was under 12 mph. Terrible. Skipped today and will go again in the morning. Will do every other day and build back up to longer rides again. I gained a ton of weight back but not all of it. Time to re-focus!!!

Hey, Bug! Good to see that you are back with us! Re-focus? You can do it, xo Cate

Did a 10 miler this morning. It still kicked my butt but my pace was 1/2 a MPH faster than Monday. Back felt OK, but my legs are feeling it. Gotta get back in biking shape. It'll take me a little while to get back to where I was as far as distance and speed, but it will give me something to work on.

I'm going to take a slightly different approach. I'm not going to track and trend everything so detailed on a spreadsheet like I was. I'm going to bike, cut back on intake, but not be so OCD about it. We'll see how that goes for a while. I'll keep doing every other day, maybe do some personal challenges once I'm back up to shape (i.e. set a mileage goal for specified period at times).

I feel so much better when I'm biking!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey BugDude! I had to pop in and write because your last post really resonated with me (just with running instead of biking). I'm getting back into a routine after a little break and feel so much better already! Hopefully the back is cooperating now and you can keep easing back into it.

Thanks for the post!!! The back thing drug out for a while then I got distracted with golf and working on cars. The heat and humidity was totally oppressive, but I had planned on jumping back into it when that subsided and the time changed (gets light earlier in the mornings when I ride). July - Sept is always going to be tough to bike here. The key to taking breaks is to not give up on it forever. Have a plan for when to get back in. Another issue I faced during my break was going off the rails eating-wise. And I knew it, and did it anyway. Complete and total loss of control, eating with reckless abandon, falling off the wagon, and whatever other cliché saying you can think of. I've got to learn 2 things:

1) When taking a break, don't completely walk away from the exercise. Still do it occasionally.

2) When backing off, don't tie the feedbag on like there's no tomorrow.

I know it, I even told myself these things, and still did it anyway. I'm frustrated at myself for that. Just gotta get back with the program and do better by learning from my mistakes.

Welcome back!! Glad to see your diary at the top of the board again, looking forward to again staring agape at your mileage. LOL!!

Thank you, it's good to be back at it. I feel better already, and I've lost almost 4 pounds this week. I hope to be pounding out some mind numbing miles here soon. My obsessive-compulsive tendencies lend themselves to cycling in that I can do a repetitive task for hours with no problem. Put on a good playlist and I'm good to go. Going to do another 10 miler in the morning.

Did my 10 miler this morning. Same pace as Wednesday (12.1 mph) but I started slower and gradually got faster, leveled out, then poured on some more the last few miles. So, it felt like a stronger ride. My hips are sore, need to stretch good this weekend. Back was a little stiff when I got up this morning, so I'm a little nervous. We'll see how it goes.

Hi Bug, It's good to see you back again. We all learn from our mistakes. I know I will continue to make them. Weighing myself once a week without fail helps me & correcting things before they get out of control is my key now. Biking is good for you so I hope your back holds up. Try to ease into it if you can, xo Cate

I didn't ride my scheduled (every other day) ride Sunday. I had the huge Volkswagen car show (800 cars) Sunday and had to leave way early that morning and got home late. Then it was raining this morning. A little extra time off was probably good as my back has been a little sore. Don't want to over-cook it getting back into it. Hopefully back at it in the morning!!!

So I got up at 5:30 this morning, got ready to go, got my gear on the bike and headed out. Was feeling really good with good pace and BAM! The rain started, and it started coming hard and fast. I turned and headed back. I ended up only going 1 mile, but I averaged 13.5 mph (not bad considering the water on my glasses was making it hard to see where I was going). I'll see if I can finish up tonight or go again in the morning. The best laid plans...

So I got my ride in after work. Did a total of 12.32 miles in 59 mins, 1455 calories and 12.5 mph. Felt like a strong ride, but my legs are feeling it. It won't take me too long to get back where I was. I'll be doing a 20 miler in a few weeks.
