BugDude is back, and has a plan

6/21 Rest Day

This was supposed to be my long ride day but I spent all day driving home. By the time I got home, got the truck unloaded, and went to the store to grab a few groceries it was late and I was beat. I need to stay on my same every other day schedule due to other scheduling issues later in the week but I might do a short ride in the morning then back to me regular riding schedule Tuesday.

6/22 Rest Day

Got to bed late and had to get up early this morning and go get my cat from having her boarded while out of town, then take her home before going to work. I've got to mow my grass tonight so no time this evening either.

But I was on vacation 7 days and blew my calories several hundred each day and weighed the same on returning as when I left. That's a victory in my book!

That is a major victory in my book too! Well done! Any tips on how you did it?

I stuck with my biking schedule while on vacation and at least did some degree of damage control on calories and didn't just throw my arms up and totally blow it out of control. I've been doing 1600 calories per day (which is likely not enough in reality) and on vacation I had 3 days at 2200, 2 days at 1900, and 2 days at 1800. I kept tracking everything and just accepted it would be difficult to maintain the same degree of strictness on vacation but limited the overages to reasonable amounts. Many of those days a majority of the overages were attributable to alcohol, which I rarely drink and when I do it's not a lot...but on vacation at the beach it's time to enjoy a few.

I just didn't have the energy to go farther or faster this morning...which is unusual coming off of a 3 day rest. But I've been getting to bed late and getting up early. Last night got to bed after midnight and up at 5. Sleep has a major impact on energy.

So I feel like I lost some of my upward progress with vacation interrupting my regular schedule...just got to get back on track and get caught back up.

6/24, 6/25, 6/26, Rest Days

I've still been struggling with the muscle spasm in my right latissimus dorsi this entire week. From my lower back up under my shoulder blade. It's been restricting my ability to take a deep breath. I'm going to give it several days rest and hit it with ibuprofen (which seem to be more effective than muscle relaxers) and see how it goes. Until I rest it enough to heal it is just going to stay irritated and causing problems. Still sticking with my diet plan though. I'll be back on the bike next week and get back on schedule.

So I was planning on resting all weekend, but I played golf this morning and my back felt great (shot a 1 over par 73), so in normal style I pushed (and probably over-did it) and rode my bike too. I rode at 2:30 in the afternoon in 95* humid heat. I'm not used to the sun, heat, or riding in such strong wind. Seemed like it was coming into me no matter what direction I was going. I think I'll stick with 5 am biking.

Staying loaded on ibuprofen seems to help a lot. We'll see how the back feels later.

1 over par? [emoji466]? In my dreams!

The last month or so I thought only in my dreams too. Not sure why today was different other than my back was finally ok. I had 3 chip-ins, made 5 long putts, and stayed out of the trees, water, and sand. Surprisingly I was hitting my irons much farther than usual and was swinging slow and smooth, not trying to hit it hard (hoping not to hurt my back). There's something to that.

My back feels pretty good today.

Letting the club do the work. Easy to say, harder to do. Perhaps I should pretend I have a sore back next time I play. Glad yours is better!

So up at 5:30 this morning and back in the routine. Did a 10 miler, ok speed, but it's down a good bit from where I was a couple weeks ago and I was doing 15 milers during the week. I did about as long and fast as I could and I was feeling it...still feeling it in my legs now. It may take me a few weeks to get back to where I was but gotta start somewhere. While I was riding I could feel the muscle in my lower back twinge here and there so I know it's still there and not 100%, but much improved. I'll just do what I can do and keep popping ibuprofin throughout the day for a while. At least it's not spasming to the point it's hard to take a deep breath. That's no fun. I need to do some more stretching and really be consistent with that. I haven't been doing that but I'm sure it would help. Flexibility isn't one of my strong points.

Wow, 5:30am that's dedication!!
I had to take a step back in my weight lifting after my back injury and it sucks! But you know you can get back to where you were, it just takes time!
