BugDude is back, and has a plan

6/9....10.15 miles....41 mins....15.0 mph....1227 calories

My fastest ride yet and first time hitting 15 over a sustained distance. I intended on a 15 mile ride but I went after it as hard as I could from the get go this morning and by 10 miles I was spent. Plus, I did 5 more than I planned Sunday so I'm even overall with my plan for this month. The approach I'm taking this month is definitely yielding higher average speeds, which is my goal instead of just total miles. Higher intensity instead of raw volume. Good to mix it up.

I didn't have a good ride this morning. I've been on call for work all week (I'm on call every 6th week) and this morning they called me 8 times during my ride. I had to stop so I could hear and each call took 5-10 minutes. I thought I'd never get that ride finished. I couldn't get into a good rhythm for having to stop, and starting from a dead stop and getting back up to speed that many times wears you out. Very frustrating. But I persevered despite the BS from work and I got it done.

Traveling, but found a place to bike. Not great but will work. Determination will find a way.

Had my first crash today, but thanks to fast reflexes and surprising agility I laid the bike down and somehow managed to hop on one foot and stay upright and get both feet on the ground. No damage to me or bike. I was going slow making a turn at a sidewalk and the tire went off the edge and it dropped off.

Still out of town but drove to a place close by and found a good biking place. Couldn't maintain good speed since I wasn't familiar with the place but got a good workout.

Haven't done great on calories this week. Been over my goal per day be several hundred each day. Not a total bust but ok for traveling.

Found a really good long loop close by, part of it urban type biking and part rural. Saw a coyote on the path , had to dodge a bunch of geese on the trail that wouldn't move, people walking dogs, and other obstacles to dodge but made it work. Can't wait to get back home to known courses and dedicated bike paths. Still exceeding my budgeted calories, thanks to my rare indulgence of alcohol while on vacation. I won't get to do a long ride Sunday since I'll be driving home but might go for a medium ride tomorrow. It will be interesting to see the scales when I get back.

I backed into a car while on vacation and my bike rack (empty) broke his headlight and dinged his hood. Didn't hurt my bike rack at all. We called the police and got a police report and reported it to our insurance companies. No one got any tickets. I'm in a big truck and this tiny car was so close to me I couldn't see it in any of my mirrors. I still don't know how he got behind me without my seeing him. Oh well. Accidents happen...my first one.

I hear you on knowing your exercise routes! I ran a new one today and it was so frustrating having to turn down a bunch of random roads and having to remember which roads I needed to take on the way back!
Whoops about the car bump, it happens! I backed into my brother's car a couple months ago while trying to parallel park! Thankfully no damage so I never told him! Don't need my bro hanging that over my head even with no damage!
