BugDude is back, and has a plan

7/1....10.16 miles....41 min....14.9 mph....1224 calories

I'm back!!! 14.9 mph is right up there with some of my fastest paces. Instead of going this morning (just wasn't feeling it), I went this evening right as it was about to get dark (was dark about halfway through). I went to the driving range after work and hit golf balls for 2 hours and then came home, ate a little pasta, and hit the bike.

I know what's been happening. With the back issues I got in a bad pattern of staying up late and then trying to get up early. It's either not happening or I have no energy when I ride. I've got to get back in a routine of getting to bed early and getting enough sleep. With pounding so many golf balls after work then biking, surprisingly my back felt great. We'll see how it feels in the morning.

Official weigh-in was 6/30 (last day if each month) and here it is (forgot to post it):

6/30 289 lbs, start 326 on 2/6 = -37 lbs in 5 months

I hoped for a faster pace of loss especially at first, but it's still good progress. I'm not in a race so it doesn't matter as long as it is still moving south. The last couple months has been 5 lbs each month. As much bike riding and calorie watching as I'm doing that was somewhat a downer but the last 2 weeks being on vacation and having guys weekends with drinking and eating out I think I'm doing fine. I didn't lose any weight at all the last 2-3 weeks with all that going on and having to take a break from biking with back muscle spasms, but not gaining any is a win.

So now the back is 90%+ better and I'm getting back in my routine. I hope to see some steady progress towards my weight loss again. My end goal is 200 lbs, so 89 more to go. At 5 lbs per month that's a year and a half from now...and I'm fine with that. Again, no hurry. If I wasn't doing this then a year and a half from now I'd still weigh what I do now, so nothing to lose but weight I don't want or need. Slow and steady wins the race.

I know it can be frustrating Bug, but you have a really good attitude. Slow & steady will win the race & will help with keeping the weight off. Doing well!

7/2 Rest Day

Instead of riding tomorrow I'm going to meet up with 3 other guys I work with Saturday morning and we're doing a group ride on a trail near my house. It'll be fun.

7/3 Rest Day also

That's great progress on the weight! A lot of people would not be able to accomplish that! Great job on the good ride too!
Hope Saturday's ride is fun!

7/4....30.09 miles....2 hrs 14 mins....13.5 mph....3438 calories

Long ride this morning with guys from work. We're all at different levels of ability so we started out together and then went at our own pace. Funny thing is we all ended back at the cars at the same time, so that was cool. One guy said he stayed behind me for a while and he was watching my form and said I had good form and cadence. He also said he noticed my legs are humongous and solid muscle. He said he's never seen anyone with legs that muscular and he's been biking for a long time. That was good feedback and made me feel good about what I'm accomplishing. My legs have always been freaky large from years of weight lifting and then running...biking is just adding to it.

13.5 mph is a great pace for me on a 30 miler. I almost had a wipe out on a curve when my tire left the hard top. I somehow held it upright and recovered but I felt my back tweak a little bit from the jolt. I'm going to load up on ibuprofen (took some before I left this morning too). I think it will be fine. I'm glad to be back in the groove on my bike!!!

I played golf after my bike ride yesterday also. 95* and humid, it was "stay outside and sweat" day for me. I shot a +3, 75. The course is 6500 yards long and rated at 71.8, so I shot 3 strokes over the course rating which is a pretty good day. The other course I play often is rated 69 so shooting an even par over there is the same as shooting 75 here. My back was fairly sore during the round after the long bike ride and I was feeling it last, but this morning it seems fine.

7/6....10.15 miles....43 minutes....14.1 mph....1186 calories

Good ride this morning, my legs were still a little fatigued from Saturday but I pushed through at a pretty good pace.

You're a cycling/golfing machine Bug! Seriously- awesome dedication & determination! Thanks for your very kind support xo Cate

I've had a bit of a setback. My back wrenched up again and really bad. It took me a couple weeks to get over it and it's still tender. About the time it started feeling well enough to bike again it started raining every day. We've had family and guests visiting too, so I'm far out of my routine. I hope to get back on my regular schedule soon.

I wondered where you were Bug! That's no good about your back. Hope it's better soon xo Cate

7/11....10.89 miles....47 mins....14.0 mph....1273 cal

Forgot to post this ride before my time off the bike.

7/12 - 8/4 Rest/Rain/Back issues kept me off the bike. :cuss:

It rained 24 straight days here. And I don't mean a little bit, I mean torrential downpours. Streets flooded, etc. I had to take my 4x4 truck and go through some deep water to get some people from their home which was flooding. Crazy. I'm so sick of rain!!! At least it wasn't great weather while I was having the muscle spasms in my back!!!

8/5....10.16 miles....46 mins....13.2 mph....1148 cal

Back on the bike this morning!!! Yay!!! My back isn't 100% but it's much improved and the rain has stopped!!! Yay!!! Boy were my legs burning!!! A pretty good ride, not a bad pace for just getting back in the mix. I'm going to do every other day for a little while. Not sure when I'll get back to the long rides on the weekends. Maybe in a couple weeks. I need to work on my golf game too. Back trouble plays heck on your golf swing.

I did get some time to work on one of my antique VW Bugs while I was off the bike and golf. Got the new floor pans coated inside and out, new metal painted, and got the interior all put back together (new carpet, door panels back in, seats back in). Working on more artwork ont he exterior for Hippiefest on August 15th. So not a total loss of time while I was down.

We had 2 Foreign Exchange students for 3 weeks also. A girl from France and a girl from Italy. Pretty cool getting to compare cultural differences. We also had family and friends visit during this time. Busy, busy, busy. I'm glad to be back in a normal routine. I had gotten down to 289 before all this. Back up to 295 this morning. :willy_nilly: Oh well, time to take off the feed bag and get off my butt!!! I hope my back can take it. Getting old isn't for sissies!!!
