BugDude is back, and has a plan

Hey Bugdude,

Believe it or not (there is written evidence on one of my many pages) but by far the most emotional day of my entire journey was the day I dropped below 300 for the first time. Particularly having started out at 375, getting below the 300 mark had an effect on me that I was actually quite surprised by. It's a moment I won't forget.

So here's pulling for you any day now.

:D How do you even find time to eat!?

Ironically, many times I forget or don't take time to. I never could figure out how I gained so much weight as I am always doing stuff. I guess I just made bad choices and over indulged when I did take time to. I'm making better choices and tracking how much now...and making sure I take time to eat and eat healthy.

It's a major milestone for sure and my first goal. I've got good momentum and am having fun on the bike so I don't see any obstacles keeping me from my goals. If they pop up, adapt and overcome. I'll be sure to post when I get below that mark. You've done an amazing job and you should be very proud.

4/9....5.52 miles....23 minutes....14.4 mph....692 calories

I biked this evening instead of this morning. I decided to do a short ride but to go after it with as much intensity as I could muster. 14.4 mph is my fastest yet and boy was I huffing and puffing. Really got my heart rate up on that ride!!! I feel that varying the length and intensity of rides has really been beneficial in many ways. My resting heart rate is down to 51, which is a drastic change from a few months ago in the 80s.

4/10....6.71 miles....31 minutes....13.1 mph....796 calories

I went riding this evening instead of this morning and had to cut it short due to also having to detail one of my cars this evening for a car show tomorrow. My legs were also very fatigued this evening and it was a struggle. I'll have to go tomorrow evening too due to the car show all day. Then I'm planning on playing golf Sunday and going for a long ride. Busy weekend!!!

Since I'm getting close to the 300 mark I snuck on the scales this morning. 302. That's 24 pounds since the first part of Feb. Doing well with the diet, with only a day or two here and there a little over goal, but other days under. It's averaging out very close to my 1500 per day. I had several hundred calories available this evening so I'm enjoying a couple adult beverages. It's great when I can work those into my goal calories.

Awesome job sticking to your goals!!! Sounds like a very busy, very tiring, and very fun weekend ahead of you! Scheduling in those rides takes dedication, and sounds like a great idea. Good luck, have fun!

4/11 Rest Day.

I didn't intend for this to be a rest day, but I had forgotten about the big retirement party we had to attend this evening and by the time I got home from the car show I barely had enough time to take a shower and leave for that. And I blew my calorie budget out by 800 today with the big event this evening. Too many beers. Nothing I can do at this point but put today behind me and get back on track.

Sounds like you are doing great!! And SO close to being under 300! That's amazing.
You are also busting it with your bike. I have to say, I'm impressed!

Thanks MR. I've been really surprised at what I've been able to accomplish on the bike in such a short period of time considering I'm 46 and 300+. Somewhere deep down inside this middle-aged fat guy is an athlete fighting his way to the surface. I've seen him before so I know he's in there.

4/12....15.11 miles....1hr7min....13.5mph....1832 calories

My first 8 miles I averaged 15 mph. When I turned around on the bike trail to head back I realized the wind had been behind me and was now in my face all the way back. I averaged 11.8 mph the last 7 miles. That zapped me of energy and I just couldn't go play golf after that.

I went this morning before it got hot and I realized that going for a longer ride on the weekends I usually do it mid day or later in the day and have eaten a couple times already. Tis morning I had not eaten when I headed out (which I don't in the mornings during the week either and I usually do 10 miles those mornings). If I go for longer rides on weekends I need to eat first.

I don't think there's an athlete in me fighting to get out haha, so lucky you!
Yes, for long rides you may need some food before heading out, or at least some of those gels or something on your ride!

4/13....10.12 miles....48 min....12.6 mph....1174 calories

After yesterdays ride and running out of energy I was surprised I was able to do 10 miles today...but I didn't go after it very hard either. Just a good solid pace, not too fast and not too slow.

4/14....10.13 miles....46 min....13.2 mph....1211 calories

Pretty good pace this morning. Legs felt good so I pushed it a little. Not a full out as hard as I can go effort but better than average.

I just realized looking at my tracking spreadsheet that as of today I have eclipsed 500 miles on my bike since I bought it February 6th (65 days ago) and 46 hours on the bike.

4/15 Rest Day.

I didn't intend it as such, but stayed up too late last night and then had to mow grass this evening. That's ok because my lower back (into my hip and leg) has been hurting. I need to stretch out tonight and hit it again tomorrow.

You need to find someway to attach a push mower to your bike! 2 birds, 1 stone!

LoL...sounds like something I would actually try. My last house we had an acre + yard. If I could have figured out a way to attach a blade to my antique Volkswagen Bugs and just drove them around the yard I would have. My yard now is small and doesn't take long.

4/16....10.09 miles....47 min....13.0 mph....1193 calories

The first 7 miles this morning I took it at a comfortable pace, then the last 3 miles I cranked it up to 14+. Nice mix of intensity. My lower back didn't bother me while riding, so we'll see how it feels the rest of the day.
