Brawny enters wearing philosophers robes (actually its just a robe he stole from a hotel)...He speaks:

Ok what does it take to cause permanent change? Here is what I think.

1.Realization that you need to change and the way you have been doing things isn't working

2. Support....Like well...this place...or a diet buddy or a program like weight watchers

3 A commitment....actually buying the gym membership or the running shoes...something that changes it from a dream to something real

4.Time to form positive habits (starts getting hard here)

5. Patience...We all want to get there too quickly, It took us a long time to get fat, It will take a while to get skinny

6. Spirituality....Enjoying life on the way to our goals

Okay that's about as deep as I get

Haha! Funny =P

Also, very useful true points about permanent change =) THanks for sharing ^_^

It's great that you post often, really gives us an insight to what works well and what doesnt. Also noticed you have this diary since 2009, that's really committed. Good stuff!

All the best in reaching your goals =)

Thanks for stopping by Nisha. We all gotta help each other!
I get by with a little help from my friends...hey there's a song there somewhere.
Man I feel good today! Sore from my walk-a-thon but it s a good sore! And....drum roll...I am off until a week from Monday!....y'all jealous?...I'm gonna make this the week o fitness! Stand back!

Well I had a great day. I cleaned and did housework like a fiend because mrs brawny and my kids were coming back from church camp. I broke a sweat and cleaned for 3 hours. Then this evening I rode my stationary bike for 65 minutes and 17 miles! I ate about 1500 calories today so I hope I will see a bit of loss in the morning. I am thinking light thoughts.

Weigh in report....2.4 lbs have exited my body! I kinda thought I might get 3 or 4 with the way I exercised and ate last week but I guess the ol metabolic fires have died down some as I near 50 years of age. At least I am in the 260s now 8.8 lbs to go for the 250s.

Ok I am off this week so let the week o fitness begin! (Trumpets blast) I rode my stationary bike 20 freakin miles tonight! Took me 73 minutes. I held up well. According to the calories burned calculator I found on line, I burned 1053 calories! I think tomorrow I will walk on the track so I can get sore in even more places!

Whoa!! 1053 calories is NO JOKE, Brawny. What an awesome way to start the week. Loving the attitude. Hardwork and determination it is. Crush it, sir!

Thanks guys...I am in a groove....walked 3.25 miles in 61 minutes tonight. Ate about 1900 calories today. I don't know if I will get that scale moving very fast but if I can inch it down that will be ok. Gotta take my oldest to Waco for college orientation Thursday and Friday. Look out! Restaurants headed my way. I am excited about the trip but I hate it when I get in a good exercise and eating pattern and something happens to break it. Oh well it will be a good test of my resolve.

Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” ~Edward Stanley

Even after a substantial workout at the club, I walked to the store tonight instead of driving (it's a little over a mile each way). I'd be more proud of myself if I actually had a car, but I'll take my victories any way they come.

Ok I am back from taking my oldest to college orientation. Had to do a good bit of walking all around campus to all the meetings and dorm tours... But I did some pretty aggressive eating also. I did not weigh in this morning because I wanted one day back on plan before I assessed the damage. So today has been great. I ate about 1300 calories and rode my bike foe 52 minutes and 14.5 miles. Had not really lost any fitness ground in my 5 days of no official exercise. I bet the campus walking helped with that. So here I go again onward into the land o fitness and skinnyhood. I have a Dr appt one week from today. I will weigh in in the morning and post my goal for that weigh in.

Damage report:
Weighed in after my 5 day off plan trip. 272. Up almost 3 lb. sigh...it took 5 days to gain it and will likely take 10 to re-lose it. I am setting a goal to be 269 by Mondays Dr appt but that might be hard as tightly as my body is holding on to weight. Must be laser focused and unfortunately I have to go to a wedding in Oklahoma City this weekend. I have not been known to travel well.

Philosophy to live by:
There are very few problems bacon can't fix.....oops I mean exercise...scratch the word bacon and add the word exercise...yeah that's better.

Rode stationary bike 75 minutes and 20.21 miles tonight. According to my handy dandy calories burned calculator I burned 1081 calories. Hey maybe I could eat bacon while I exercise...no guess not.

Gonna hit the track for a hot humid walk tonight. Just gotta keep on putting one decent day after another.
